His redemption arc actually goes further than this. After that, it is revealed that he was actually double-crossing Hiccup and joins back with his villain associates. HOWEVER, Vigo changes his mind and TRIPLE- CROSSES the villains, while also freeing a Dragon (I believe it was the Skrill), saving Hiccup and dying in the process.
From heroes - Hiccup. He is just too cool and relatable. From villains - Viggo. He was actually the scariest for me and was an actual problem for our squad XD He is also perfect rival for Hiccup.

Personally Viggo never scared me, honestly I had mad respect for him, bc despite being a villian he was actually somewhat civil and very mature, he is what we call a savy business man 🤌 his over all character is simply a masterpiece
Viggo was probably the closest thing that the entire franchise had to an adult-rated villain, and I mean that as in the themes he represented. To be in a (relatively speaking) kids show and series and have one of your characteristics be a serial killer-style calling card is wild, and not something I’ve seen in any other media like it. Leaving behind “chess” boards either different moves on them as clues is some proper Batman villain type shit, and perfect for hiccup as a rival.
Yea I think that’s why Viggo is considered the best villain by a lot of people- I haven’t watched things like Batman but in tons of anime’s I’ve seen the manipulator character always comes out on top

In Rtte Snotlout is actually like legit the best character. He has the most depth and the most dynamic character arc. He goes from the annoying arrogant dick to a real leader. And it all happens so naturally over the course of the whole show. It's legit really good writing
Heather is GF material. I thought Astrid had my heart until I heard Heather sing. That was the pinnacle but her whole personality and look in RTTE was a massive glow up. She’s everything I admire. As for my tied favourite, Viggo. Best villain ever. A smart game player that uses strategy to keep things interesting enough to force the MC to realise he too is infallible to someone else. That someone else of similar smarts commands the chess pieces.
Heroes: Hiccup’s mother, Shes easy-going and is everything i wish my mother had for me growing up, shes very motherly and strong willed. Villains: Viggo, he just has a deathly smart vibe around him, he was one of the first Villain’s I’ve seen that actually made the hero’s story so much more intense and intriguing! He also wasn’t ignorant or self-absorbed either, he actually was just very well written !!

According to what I think makes sense, he have been the leader of the dragon hunters for years, probably decades, but when he heard about Berk befriending dragons and having a night fury, he wanted to crush this power since it was dangerous for his empire. And also, getting the last night fury could earn him a huge amount of fame, money and respect. This is why there's no mention of him in the first movie. He was still in the unknown territories, and Berkians met him between the movie and the series, when he started to play his role. It's still hard to explain though that why did he, and not one of his men do this job. But looking at most of his "employees", I think that can be understood too. XD So Break Leg Bog was only his first try to make Hiccup kick the bucket, not the moment when he became evil. I mean, if this was the case, how could he rise to that power in such a short time in a society he probably wouldn't even know about? And his stories were from actual traders who he killed, so I'm sure he started his career way before that. Otherwise we couldn't hear any of his stories in the first parts where we got to see him.

I feel bad for Viggo, he sacrificed himself for Hiccup and Toothless. He tricked Hiccup saying he put oleander into Toothless's fish, but a little while later he said "You really don't know your oleanders Hiccup." And Viggo actually put red oleander which is harmless to dragons.
What’s interesting is that this time he didn’t trick hiccup into thinking that he was lying and that he will betray him, but nope, he was an temporary ally who wanted Krogan and Johann to be defeated, and I also feel bad for the skrill cuz he stayed behind with Viggo
