Golden line :- Money and common sense rarely go together
I love your videos, but having lived in Dubai for over 26 years now, I have to say that while there are expats particularly the labourers, who I'm sure have to live in harsh conditions, the majority of expatriates in the city, who have been here for generations are successful and extremely happy in Dubai. The education here is fantastic, and we have had Indian schools around since 1961.
Regarding the fact that we cant get UAE citizenship, whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is debatable. I am quite well travelled, and have lived outside Dubai as well, and I really believe that there is no other city that can truly be a melting pot of cultures as Dubai is. In the UK, around Europe, in the US, etc, expatriates lose the identity of the country of their origin. Everyone is British, or American, etc. I actually love always identifying myself as Indian from Dubai. We are much closer to our motherland than expatriates from other parts of the world. In Dubai, while we mix with people from all over the world, we get a bit of their culture within us. Arabs speaking Hindi, Indians speaking Arabic and Tagalog, broken pashto and Farsi. Its beautiful.
Yes, while its true, as any big city, Dubai too has its cons, I wonder how they would weigh out against that of cities in India or even the US or UK. If we talk about labour, child labour is something you will never see here, and there are laws against the mistreatment of house help as I have seen in India myself. And I can say confidently, that the situation here is improving constantly. This country was literally only formed in 1971, the people here were beduins. Laws here were established way after most other countries. The amount of change I have been with my own eyes growing up here is so incredible, that I have always been motivated to do charity work in India. And I have done so, and will always spend some part of my holidays going back and giving back and try in my own little way to make a change in my own country.
Talking about our leaders and even our police and other security personnel: to me, the Dubai police is extremely efficient, and just kind and helpful in general. I have faced policemen in India and have had a bunch of uncomfortable and embarrassing stories, along with the good ones. Whether its me being stared at disgustingly by policemen who are meant to make me feel safer, or my foreign friends being helpless at airports, and getting no help from staff who spoke them rudely only in Hindi, rather than point them out in the right direction to staff who speak english. I can assure you, neither of these 2 incidents would happen in Dubai.
Finally, it really angers me about when people criticise the tall buildings here. Firstly, whoever the architect is, the buildings or the city is really not trying to emulate another city. Thats a very bizarre thing to say..so tall buildings are only meant for NYC?! What about the ones I've seen in Mumbai, and even Milan? It makes me so angry that people look over the fact that it was all just desert not so long ago. I was around when the area that burj Khalifa is in was literally NOTHING. And my gosh, its so fantastic what they've done. We have had population explosions here, we literally need tall buildings. I don't even understand the purpose of criticising the buildings here. Additionally, as I said, the new construction has been done outward from the city, expanding it and in areas where there was nothing before. The soul of the city remains in Old Dubai. Textile markets run by Gujarati and Sindhi families for generations, shops that have been there forever. The old streets, the old boats that take you from one side of the city to another for 1 Dirham. The quaint area with no skyscrapers, with Indian, Pakistani, and Afghani workers walking around (in peace and harmony)- its all still there. This makes me want to point out the fact that you won't find any tension between Indians and Pakistanis here. I've seen it all over the world, Indians and Pakistanis don't get along as freely in the UK, US, certainly not in India or Pakistan (where the majority of both populations hate one another). There is also religious tolerance and freedom in Dubai. Perhaps if Indians and Pakistanis who grew up in Dubai went back home to become their country's leaders, our countries would have far more peace.
I could go on and on. I'd like to point out that I'm not saying this city is flawless, I'm just disappointed at how biased and opinionated this video was. It would have been great balance these facts out with positive ones which definitely exist, and make it a fair argument. Ending with "Tell us what you think is wrong with Dubai" is honestly extremely ridiculous. #rant
Anisha Misra Designs when I read ur msg i could relate it to myself... as I have lived there , i would add few more things.... as a woman they always made me think that I am a queen.. they let us board bus first... let us have queues for us or they give priority to women right from airport immigration counter to finding cab and reaching home safely without any Hassel.. i m sure Many countries need to learn to respect women regardless how wealthy or rich a country might be! i will just go on n on as it's rightly said "U can take a person out of Dubai but not from their mind."
i cant live in UAE its too fake and too depressing ...
well said it also applies to India mega cities where we also replicate western glass buildings instead of conventional buildings🙄😐
U are always a good journalist dear.... Thank u for sharing the knowledge....
Nevertheless, every city has it pros and cons and its always good to be kept updated as it makes you more vigilant, especially when you are a part of that city or going to be one. Since I am going to be in Dubai in a few days, I learnt some unknown facts at first hand.
+Sunny Tulsiani Hey wish you all the luck in Dubai! Glad this was some sort of an eye opener for you.
Your lines are true that money and common sense can't go together
It was so racist saying "an african country" africa has both rich and poor nations it'd be more specific if you mentioned a particular name :)
brilliant illustration , i liked how u made the agents look like the pipe piper
+Priyasha Ray completely agree with you.
good work whack team
Beautiful doodles.
Your drawing is very nice..
That's Epified... Freshia narrates... Epified ppl Draw
Dubai is way too expensive to live in for someone not in finance or already a billionaire. I am a nurse, and the salary I would get paid there would not be enough to pay for rent. Even Abu Dhabi is quite expensive, but I would prefer to go there.
I have never thought Dubai being such a mess
Now I understand why there is so much for Dubai. When most of the countries are not buying oil from them, they are now shifting their focus on lifestyles, entertainment and other luxury.
Soon Dubai would be a hub of sex tourism like any other in near future.
ANY EPISODE ON UDAIPUR,RAJASTHAN,INDIA??
Hey Fresia, would you like to make a Video on Bitcoin and blockchains it would be really interesting and i would like to talk to about it also
I have spent my 3.5 years in UAE and found that This video has minimum facts about UAE. I am sure there is some pockets where Labor treat badly but in general, Govt take care of Working class. Like All India can not be judge by some bad incident. similarly you can not judge whole city by some pocket incident of labor torture. Dubai still is world largest city for freedom of Everything. This allegation of discrimination is very minimum and non existential till now.
Dude. Can you notice the terms were, was, used,... See all past tense. Maybe under world pressure things have improved.
Nice
Lets discuss what wrong with India next... It might be a longer video than this one...
+the chikmiester You read my mind, coming very soon!
+Whack It will take several videos, sadly.
Dubai is just a city. And India is a country. So people stop cribbing like useless idiots and that stupid ass sarcasm - that it will be a longer video, shows the amount of intellect.
Dubai is not even a city, its a mega mall. You go to any city, you feel its character, the language, the attitude, the general life of normal middle and lower class, thats what gives character to a city. Dubai is one giant ass market place. Thats it . A fair to be more precise. Where people tent in, earn some money, do some buisness and then come back after its all done.
do you actually draw them???
Really? U made Burj Al Arab bigger than the Longest Tower/Building in the world(Burj Khalifa).
Gud one once again, Dubailooks awesome in architecture but the rules are as ruthless as it can be. Also guys whats the tool u use for making a video like sketching it ?
And they waste a lot of fuel revving their expensive EXTREMELY LOW EFFICIENT Super cars for showoff! I believe with this amount of money they should have had the responsibility to use it wisely. It is after all a Desert, and who knows the future. But no, showing off is all that's happening there.. Bdw, just subscribed to your channel.. love your content.. Brains definitely the new sexy!
Are you paying for their fuel?
Dubai is not the city of 21st century! That will be masdar, near Abu Dhabi, which is the worlds first self sustained city!
Would love it if these videos focussed on both the positives and negatives of these countries rather than be one-sided. Indians have a lot of opinions about the gulf states, but they are never about the contributions wealth from the Middle East has made in the growth of the Indian middle class. And why do those poor labourers move out of their family and homeland in search of a job anyway? Because their government couldn’t provide a satisfactory one.
Its just not natural
Why don't you make a video on crisis which is going on in middle east like Syria and Iraq
every one is totally confused who is attacking whom ? it will be great
i will wait for answer #Whack
There is 1000 of video in YT about this subject. Why are you insisting them.
English architect trolls Arab nation? wow
Y only negatives??
because we need to learn from the mistakes others did
+Rafeeq Mohammed Looking on the bright side does'nt work if you wanna learn stuf...
+Rafeeq Mohammed because eveyone knows positives
The good. The bad and the ugly.
Understand the title.
Stop being such a touchy touchy.
Shit happens !
I live in uae....and its the best country..
Thhe problem is the religion they cannot come out of middle ages...

Brother I Live In Dubai And I Know How Much Safety Women Have Here Way More Thn India Or Pakistan Anyday
+Nawaz Motiwala You know the safest animals are the ones kept in the zoo....
+the chikmiester Ohh Describing yourself? What time of animal you are? I guess the zoo whr u live must be a cheap one for sure as you are their 😉
😂😂 common guys ,both of don't act like kids
I live in Dubai and this is fake
The law of the UAE protect the right of of every worker in it, so if any worker called the police for being treated badly by his boss the UAE will give him justice. Those are companies who bring the worker, and most of them are not even Emirates companies , so how come you blamed Dubai ?? .
Yes, that happened after the economic downturn. When dubai felt in debt, then it became vulnerable to world pressure, and it had to change many laws and make some new ones.
Did you even watch the video or you got overly excited at the beginning.
the debt had nothing to do with it, the bailout was paid almost instantly by abu dhabi, it was social pressure and was grossly over simplified, a few companies did this yet the whole country is accountable, what bullshit
