I’m glad that you are doing this TRAIN video on the Westcreek “High Voltage” mate. I’m blown away by your knowledge of how a guitar should be set up for proper playability. I have currently subscribed to your channel, but I’ve been watching it since the beginning of the pandemic and I’m sorry I didn’t subscribe sooner🙏🏻!! I have this same guitar except it’s purple and like yours it was playable right out of the box, but I didn’t come across any kind of problems like this. Mine has a little bit of too much overspray on the back of the neck but otherwise it’s just about perfect 👍🏻! I really enjoy watching you tear these guitars apart and adjust/fix the issues and then put the guitar back together. Plumbers tape comes in handy for a lot of things. I recently gave Trey Shreddings advice on how to use plumbers tape for the Floyd Rose bar and how to keep the bar in place, so that it’s(the bar) not flopping around. He was very thankful for the advice because now his FR bar isn’t loose and floppy lol 😂! Thanks for the update on the “High Voltage” J-man and until next time…. Stay safe, Stay metal, and don’t forget to Riff.?! Ps. I really enjoy your guitar playing bro! It’s very entertaining and it’s too bad that you and your band can’t make it to Vermont, so you can do a gig. Burlington would be a great place for you guys to perform and I would definitely show up to watch. Maybe someday💯!🎸🔥😎💥🤘🏻👊🏻⭐️
@@TheGhostLad1 ahhh cool man! Sounds like a great place to gig for sure! My band doesn't play hard rock stuff and I'm pretty rusty as I'm sure you could tell haha! This guitar turned out great. I went a little beyond what it needed but man it plays great! Glad yours dialed in out of the box! Thanks for the sub and welcome to the family! ☺️ Rock on man!
i can see angus running around on stage with this one woo woo woooo!!! sounds knarelly! mean beast! got the 222 on film...it needs some love but it played lol!
I discovered that the nut height affects the tuning as well as the intonation. I've built exactly one guitar so I'm not an expert. The lower the nut height, the better the tuning on the lower frets is, so I set that before the intonation. Thanks for a great channel.
@@JOliver-wp5cn yeah for sure. However there is a limit as too low at the nut will cause open string buzzing at the 1 st fret. I tend to go through my set up then fine tune the nut height and then Tweak the action and intonation if needed... 😃
@@Bruh-jt4gv ahhh geez thanks man. Nothing master class about this. It's just sharing how I go about setting my guitars up. If you can use some of my approaches and apply them your way, then win, win! Cheers!
Can't help but to keep commenting. Lots of GREAT guitarists on yt but you stand out. You take a cheap guitar and with your knowledge make very playable. At this point I see no reason at all to spend over $250-350 on a guitar when there's guys like you to help the less fortunate & privileged guitar community. Seems like you should be at least 100k subs by now you deserve it!
@@brickmeister2128 ahhhh Jeepers man! You are too kind! Thanks so much! 🙏 I just love talking guitars and gear with like minded people 😃 and if it helps someone out then bonus! I'm definitely not a pro nor am I a luthier lol! Just a guy who loves guitars but can't justify the price of "high end guitars" 300$ or 3000$ my ability level on the instrument does not increase, only change is my bank account drops hahahaha! A good set up makes a guitar fun to play! I appreciate you stopping by! Cheers, and Rock on!
I won't tell! If your band had a "heavy rock " set, that would be a fun guitar to show up with. It looked really comfortable and balanced as you played it. That body shape (to me) needs a fancier finish, but the bones are so good for $350 CAD it's nuts. Make lefties, West Creek!!! Great video, J!
I find sometimes, giving a good couple of taps with a rubber mallet on a high spot or high fret can actually seat it a bit lower to where you might not need to knock them down with a file. Or at least not as much! Maybe moreso with older guitars
I'm taking my time with this video, trying to embed as much as I can into my brain. I can see your teaching skills really coming through here. Thank you for this, J! Hope you're feeling better! Cheers
@@TonJager ahhh thanks man, but remember, this is just what I do with the tools I've grown comfortable with... Not an end all recipe haha! There's more than one way to set up a guitar, but like I said this works for me. I don't do drop offs on every guitar, but this one was fretting out near fret 20 and 21 yet they were all level down there. So I just did a drop off... I could have shimed the neck instead but I like having wood to wood contact in the neck as much as possible whenever possible. So this, for me was the better option! 😀
You had so much fun playing it. You know you want one I’m always jealous of your guitar playing. You’re pretty damn good partner. I do love working on my own stuff and I love your patience on it. That’s where I lack sometimes. 👍🎸
@@curtjaynes8223 ahhh thanks man 😊 yeah super fun guitar to play. Turned out really well. I'm short in the patience department too man! The struggle is real haha!

I do hope those are safety socks you're wearing. Seriously, this video has really inspired me to pick up one of my guitars and begin some fettling. I accumulated a good selection of lutheiring tools last year that I've barely used, including a Stewmac fret kisser, an amazing black Friday deal shipped to the UK. Have you tried a fret kisser yet? They could've named it better, though.
@@lesdixon7487 hahaha! Yup safety cotton socks!!! Cool man for sure go for it. I do have a fret kisser and honestly, it's just fair. It works well but even after the scraping of the high fret ceases, when I check with my fret rocker, that high fret is still high. It's almost like the diamond section of the fret kisser isn't elevated enough. Falls a little short 😕
I’m all about the Dean ML’s and Cadillac’s, but that little star shape never appealed to me. You sure played the heck out of it though!! Super nice licks there buddy.
