@@DMSProduktions Totally agree! Temu sells your information to third part, that is why they can have low prices, and they use a ridiculous amount of money to buy into the google search engines...., so they get up hig in searches...

Watching you reminds me of myself working.

Seriously. No one should download that app or purchase anything from them. Horrible.
Cant agree more, I like watching these videos, but I hate the ads and the company in general.
gawd i luvv working children to make my cheap products mmmm yayyyyy i get a guitar for cheap
I know I'm late, but if you do another Temu video, could you explore experimenting with really rudimentary DIY pedal making? You could probably buy a soldering iron, some audio jacks and switches, and Ive seen Temu has a lot of random electronic odds and ends, I'm pretty sure making a simple distortion wouldn't require a ton of work and would honestly be worth the time investment if that is all we walked away achieving.
The neck looks like engineered zebrawood. Guitar Kit World defines it as: "Engineered Zebrawood is a composite timber created by applying heat, glue and pressure to dyed cottenwood timber, which is a sub-species of poplar, to make it appear striped."
Yeah... not to be confused with Zebrano (Microberlinia Brazzavillensis)...an African wood often also called Zebrawood.
Any idea of how stable the wood is?
@@T4Eater with all of the glue in it most likely very stable.
@@T4Eater the glue is stronger than it lol
Toothpicks, and glue pressed together.
The self-taught DIY luthiers favorite line: "Where's my Dremel?"
This basically highlights most of the issues you might run into assembling a random parts partscaster, and also all the things you might do wrong while assembling it (like not even trying to align parts together) ;) So quite useful in a way, and of course rather entertaining with its "oh, just F it, it will fit somehow" approach 😂
Honestly, if I saw that thing in a shop (in it's current condition with a non operational saddle) I'd probably at least make an offer, looks cool and interesting even if it's kinda jank.
But I'm also a kind soul who likes rescues, I think this guitar is cool enough and deserves to be loved.
I love this and the care free attitude you approached this with.
I like it. Parts guitars can be a fantastic opportunity to learn advanced setup and fretwork techniques
I actually love the look of that neck because it's different. I honestly want to see that guitar after someone qualified looks at it. Additionally, it might be interesting to get a reaction of said qualified personnel on video.
how qualified are we talking here?

Agree. I would love to see an update after it is set up and the 11th fret leveled
@@60CycleHumcast Well that depends on you're own reach I suppose but starting at a typical guitar tech and go up from there.
Love that you’re doing this fast and loose. Tickles me and does make it fun.
I think i would have had a bad time if i took it slow and seriously lol. The real work is going to get it playing decent, YIKES
I can't stand overly precise luthier channels and felt a bit overly excited when you kept saying fast and loose.
Great job! I'm in the process of ordering a kit, this was very helpful
Do not buy that neck, it has not trust rod, that will result in you not being able to adjust your trust rod when you have neck bowing
That neck is made from a billet of composite. Thin slices of timber are put into a mold and pressed very, very hard with heat and glue. It does look fun though. I might play with a 10 ton bottle jack to see if I can do this at home...
This may be a bit more effort, but you could take the chrome "cover" from the leftover p90 and put it on the humbucker to make the pickups look more uniform ^^
The pole pieces from a P90 won't line up with those on a hummer.
@@PhillipBlanton it’s an open frame type cover, it would work
@@pistolvision5685 Ok. I have a set of Chinese Gold P90s that look like that, but the black center part is just painted or anodized and has holes for the pole pieces, so mine wouldn't work on a hummer.
@@PhillipBlanton oh I have not seen any like that before. I could be wrong then.
Maybe a future video idea would be taking it apart and finding out.
Hey! After spending a bit too much of my life, reading all of these comments, all I really want to add is THANK YOU! I seriously enjoyed the video and didn’t think you oversold your sponsor in any way. The links above with the prices clearly told us everything we need to know. I believe we’ve all came to the same conclusion with this truly fun experiment. (Cheap parts = cheap rig) Nevertheless, I hope you can make it playable.
Without trying to brag too much this was the highlight of my night. 😂 Thanks again, and have a great year!
I loved your honest and total "just wing it" approach. Thanks for doing this and I hope you get the guitar setup to your liking.
Oh man loved the vid. But seriously that was the best demonstration of microphonic I've seen! Funny but really effective! Greetings from Ireland 😎
The P90 sounds really good. I might hit the neck with some Danish oil to tame the contrast some, but it's a decent looking guitar.. for a Temu parts guitar
Please make sure those sunglasses protect from uv rays, starring at the sun with cheap sunglasses with no uv protection is actually more dangerous than just plain starring at the sun, because it will dilate your eyes wider for a dark environment while still still letting uv rays in. Always be wary of cheap sunglasses: just because the lens plastic makes things less bright doesn’t mean it protects your eye.
I was worried about that to when I saw the price. She should not wear those.
...don't stare at the sun, even with sunglasses
This. I got some knock-off Oakley sunglasses sent to me as a part of a scam and they did NOT block UV when I tested them.
You only have one pair of eyes so don't be a tight butt abd buy proper glasses with certification. I only wear glass polarised Made in Japan, durable and zero eye strain. Never looked back from my being cheapo plastic junk days.
It is better to have sunglasses with UV protection, sure, but it's not like sunglasses without UV protection will somehow destroy your eyes within days. It might at best have a fairly miniscule effect after several decades (and any actual scientific proof of the long-term benefit of using UV protective sunglasses is almost nonexistent). It's not like the difference in pupil dilation with and without sunglasses is that significant to begin with, plus you only wear sunglasses a fraction of time, so the rest of the time your eyes are "unprotected" from UV anyway. Saying "she should not wear those" is vastly overblown. The whole UV protection scare is to a large degree just luxury brands trying to sell you their insanely overpriced products (and cheap sunglasses doesn't automatically equal no UV, too).
Also, fun fact, even with UV protective lenses, a large amount of UV radiation finds its way into the eye around the frames anyway.
So yeah, sure, UV protection is a nice thing to have, but it's really not that big of a deal you've been made to believe either.
I like the way you did this video. I sort of went through a pickguard problem when I worked on my squier (purple) strat.
Kind of disappointed that you took a Temu sponsorship, but I'm glad that some of their money is going towards supporting this awesome channel
Agree 100%
It's a good practice backoff on the tuning...THEN adjust the saddle.
I would even consider that essential (and obvious tbh). Adjusting the saddle under full tension is asking for trouble, especially with cheaper bridges (but not just with those, really).
I do that not matter if the saddle is the highest or lowest quality metal available.
I play almost exclusively sitting, and I use my strap even when I'm sitting, I like my neck up high and a lot of guitars don't naturally sit the way I want them too.
Even my acoustic L48 has a strap on it.
I play the same way, I feel weird not using a strap and I like playing higher up too. It's way easier with my crazy pointy guitar from the 80's and I couldn't play that without it.
With the setup, I would check if the neck is lined up with the body, it could be at a slight angle even though the neck itself is straight.
The wood is a wood scrap composite. Good news, the wood fibers run the entire length of the neck. It's also made under tremendous heat and pressure, similar to roasted wood. The downside is, it's probably 25% epoxy and its stability is "your guess is as good as mine"...🤘🏻😝
That neck is not Zebrawood, it is cottonwood layers that have been dyed, heated, and glued. Basically a random plywood. Real zebrawood is endangered.
Personally I think it looks cheap and weird, but everyone has their own taste.
oh it looks cheap and weird, and thats why i like it. lol. Buy yeah i think you are right, i know nothing about cottonwood but it looks like sticks that were compressed and glued in some places.
@@60CycleHumcast all of my guitars are cheap, but only I’m weird.🤣
6:10
That's definitely a plywood, you can get gun stocks with similar patterns. It's too cool, though. I would've never thought to use stuff like that for instruments.
If it makes your feel any better, I bought a partscaster with a VEGATREM in it and a couple of the bridge hex screws were defective and I had to replace them. SAME problem. It was a COVID guitar so I wrote that off as 'they bought the parts they needed' and got screwed.
A good setup, some minor fretwork, and that should do it. Nice sound on the pickups
I love the Braxie shirt! If you ever come to Braxton County, WV I’d love to buy you dinner and hang. I’m not far from there, just over an hour away in Beckley, WV. Thanks for repping our cryptid!
The neck is a composite wood. Kind of like sawdust and some other materials. Still cool
It doesn't look like sawdust composite, i honestly think it might be sticks that are glued and compressed, though some of it has some decent banding, but yeah. its weird no matter what.
It’s not sawdust. Thin pieces of dyed wood smashed together under very high pressure.
All guitars need setting up after building. This turned out pretty good, for something thrown together out of parts. I think it will be worth the effort of fine-tuning it.
I bought that same Pickguard for a Squire Strat, and everything was neatly organized, and it sounds solid. That is a good pickguard to get if you are making a Partscaster, or just need a new look/sound on your guitar.
How do you know its the same please? And do you use the pickups that came with it?
@DjowZDjowZ-de8xd it's the same because that's the only black pickguard with two humbuckers I found and the price was the same. And yeah I use the same pickups. They seem wrapped good. They are microphonic so just keep that in mind. They'll pick up a fart if close enough.
Great Job Ryan.
And yeah I think the neck seems to be Zebra wood whether it's some sort of ply or laminated pieces I'm not sure.
I've just had a look on Temu & what they do sell are angled maple neck shims, I've only ever seen these available from StewMac and they're quite expensive for what they are. Temu seems to offer them at a more reasonable price
I'm gonna grab some to check the quality 👌🏻
just use folded paper😂
kidding, please don’t
I ordered some of those full neck shims off Temu, they confused the angle with the thickness of the wood. Not good 😂 No angle on them but 5mm thick 😂
@@locky828 you know last time I searched for them it seemed to be only from stewmac but now they seem to be at a few places, I didn't realise until after I made the comment lol
@@Iodine74 cheers
@@locky828 HILARIOUS!!!
were they the shape of the entire neck pocket ? like the SM ones?
Maybe I can convince EART to make some.
Even the cheapest guitar will sound good through a nice rig.
Something like this is probably the best way to learn setup and what parts do what in your guitar. Everyone that is learning to play should try and build a partscaster at some point.
It's easy to assemble a guitar from parts for me the hardest part is always the finish
Ya got a new subscriber, first time watching you, very enjoyable.
Thanks so much for all the time we spent together on here I will always cherish it
It's all good, but it might be best to put on the E strings before drilling neck holes. I had one not go well... Fun build!
It was a fairly tight fit in the neck pocket so I wasn’t too worried about getting it straight
Cool cool cool... Shows the CNC accuracy is strong in their process. Thanks again, now I wanna try it!
Instead of putting in the strings, you can use dental floss. Good idea, though.
Drilling neck holes - measure twice cut once. 12th fret has to be midway from nut to bridge. Saddle adjusters can make up for slight errors in neck hole placement.
I recently bought a roasted neck for a guitar. It was nice but was smaller than the neck pocket on the body. Huge side gaps for days, I had to carefully center it so the string alignment wasn't off but I'm looking into another option outside of ordering it from Temu. Ordering from them is sometimes 50/50 but not horrible although parts from Temu might not always be ideal. I'm considering buying a guitar body to see how that goes.
Mighty mite has never let me down.
@@christopherfelser Of course not because Mighty Mite is a straight up legit company that specializes in quality parts and not some obscure factory in China. I was hoping to go cheaper but I guess Mighty Mite is my best option if I want this to work properly in the long run. 👍
@@bloodguts6786 fair point.
It's possible to get reasonably priced high quality parts if your patient and learn what to look for. I've found that most of the generic Chinese stuff isn't worth the headaches.
I'm working on modifying a First Act S-style guitar to have aP90 soapbar in the neck and a soapbar sized humbucker in the bridge with a super strat switch from a mix of AliExpress and ebay parts - Still figuring out how to properly mount the pickups to the body since there are no pickup mounts on the (new) pickguard. But you're inspiring me to get this figured out! Great job on the project so far!
that tool thing that makes holes in things for things like pickup screws?? or not idk
Because of the existing routing, where said screws go for the humbucker either needs longer screws or I need a bracket to mount screws, or I need to use wood filler before I can use a drill for the existing screws. I went with using wood filler.
I would definitely level, crown and polish the the frets. Then after a good setup it should play fine.
I had a lot of fun watching, but I'll take a pass on building a "Temucaster" of my own. Lol
But you can't go wrong with those cheap shades 😎
Love 'em!
Wondering what the parts would have cost to build that. I know prices are varied and subject to change, but just a general idea ballpark figure would be cool. Maybe I missed that part though. Surprised that all the parts were there and functional for the most part. Very interesting.
it was like a $160ish order, i should have figured that out for the video you are right. I approached it more as a 'can this be done' sort of dirrection.
@@60CycleHumcast For sure, I get that. Who knew it could actually be built from solely Temu parts? No I! Lol.
@@60CycleHumcast Can it be done? yes. Would it be better to spend the same on a Squier or Harley Benton? A resounding YES.
@@60CycleHumcast Ive given Temu a shot. Just to compare it with price and quantity of direct access to China comparing it to the two other sites and rate it low access and doesnt price beat. For me theres no reason to go there. Last time I checked "guitar" theres was no access through Temu. At $160 for a kit thats a no. Thats $100 over budget especially for a Zebra neck and broken bridge. I know you gotta feed your kids but you dont have to feed them mine.
@@pasteye1671 I agree.
You can get a long 1/8” drill bit from Lowe’s or Home Depot for the trem claw holes.
I started thinking about trying this two weeks ago, and then here is this video, in my recommended. Must be a sign to just do it haha
On the temu website that neck is advertised as zebra wood, which is a real type of wood. That is most definitely not zebra wood so it is definitely some sort of plywood, or how you said sticks glued together lol.
I believe the neck is made out of dryed out dairy queen chocolate and vanilla ice cream? Taste it to be sure? You're welcome! 🤘😅 Happy Holidays!😊
100% genuine imitation Temu Tree wood neck. One of the most exotic.
Love playing with guitar building and this turned out great 😂. However nowhere near as well as them glasses fit Lauren! 😊
Invest in one of the cheap notched straight edges and set the neck straight before installing the strings. Unless you use a heavy gauge, it will give the perfect relief every time. I went with the purple TEMU body, but a black satin neck from Amazon.
An un-notched straight edge for the neck angle would save some vexation too...I have both. Cheap and surprisingly accurate.
@@Peasmouldia I also use an un-notched for checking fret level as opposed to a fret rocker. Simply place it on the far edge and slowly slide it towards you making note of any light coming through. Something else I always do is to try tapping down high frets slightly with the butt of a screwdriver handle as opposed to dragging out the file automatically. And of course I use an un-notched for checking the level of the bridges on both acoustic and electrics.
That neck looks like it was made from thousands of satay skewers all laminated together!
I have those humbucker size P90s in my Epi LP Special and they sound excellent. I'm also about to put a set I found with blue pearl tops in my blue Firefly 338.
It was fun to to watch you put this together. :)
I have found that wire colors do not necessarily correspond to expected norms when buying super low-dollar products. That wood is playdonium. It has the same hardness and strength as drilling into buttered toast.

Ryan I love your channel to death, but Temu engages in some seriously questionable labor practices. It's disappointing to see you take money/products from them.

That was fun, nicely done
oh man I fixed my trem cavity years back after the original screws fell out, I bought a special 3 mil by 180 or 220 mil bit just to get the angle.
I need the make one but with jazzmaster parts of AliExpress

Good luck. We have enough trouble selling our own merch. Not exactly a cash cow. Also dude. It’s clear parody. Your inability to recognize that is a you problem.
I do middle strings first and work my way out. I save the Low E for last as it is the most satisfying.
I tune them all about 7 cents down, rock out with it until it falls out of tune, retune about 5 down & repeat ,I might also do a 3 down. This always entertains me a lot and appears to be a complete replacement for string stretching, before tuning to actual pitch.
Probably explains how I came to own so many Baritones tho' 😅
@@-processdrone-Do you ever tune down an octave from E standard, and do you think this would be an attainable tuning on a 28" scale (I kinda like loose, easy to bend strings, I know the strings would have to be pretty big, and the nut slots may need to be widened, etc)?
I've only ever owned 25.5" scale guitars (except for a Gibson SG Gothic, but we won't talk about that one😅).
It's "Engineered" Zebra Wood. They sell it in most of the Chinese kits.
I love how Lauren(?) was so much more interested in the sunglasses and the mushroom night light than your guitar build. Reality bites.
My wife is the same in that regard.
She is so cute an talented!
Definitely a challenge of a random mix & match as a shotgun approach for parts that are in the ballpark & needs to be fitted properly.
Fun build loosely goosey style. Like to see an update video after the tweaks and how it holds up. Pros cons after the fact! Thanks bro
The neck looks like PSL (Parallel-Strand Lumber). It is an engineered wood consisting of strips of wood glued together. I would imagine the resonance of the wood/glue combo would cause the strings to sound more like a resin reinforced maple neck and sound much less warm than a softer wood. That is just my guess.
Really? Temu? Shame!... *Ding*
Shame flute!
OMG! When you were shimming the neck and the neck fell off… I fell off my couch, laughing😂 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I like the way this turned out! not sure I'd trust the neck, but as you said, time will tell... a "finessing" video would be great!!
Here is a crazy out there idea!!!! Do you have a local guitar shop with a plek machine? Maybe you can take this guitar to them and have them do a complete setup and you film it?
Hey Ryan. I am sure that you would not have made this video if you had done a little research on the Temu company. A company that should be avoided.
Temu is under investigation but the people investigating are the same ones who believe in Jewish space lasers. The same could be said for the phone in your hand or the cheap, Chinese guitar that your mom got you for Christmas.

I read this in Kevin Mccallisters voice. Like in that scene where he finds a picture of buzzes girlfriend? That exact line.
I was looking at the same neck yesterday an these pickups for playing metal, thrash ,rock an they listed 10 other things u can play with them
My girlfriend got me a fuzz pedal from temu. It's the orange one if you're looking for it. It's a nice little octave fuzz in the style of a foxy tone machine. I would recommend it.
Is that the Delamo one? Ryan did a demo on the whole line (Amazon has them).
@@joellebrodeur1015 Yes. Delamo. It works well in the chain and isnt noisy surprisingly
I love the individually bagged tuners. It wouldn't be from China if it didn't unnecessarily waste a bunch of plastic!
BTW, buzzing in the lower frets, like the first 6 or 7, is usually an indication of the neck needing some relief. You may have overtightened the truss rod. Before making any more adjustments, let it settle in under string tension for a bit. That material is just getting used to being a guitar now for the first time. Buzz in the upper frets is a good sign that the action needs to be raised a little bit.
Also, you should always detune your strings before making adjustments to the action, whether up or down.
Hope this helps you in taming that beast, lol. Good luck, and have a happy holiday!
Frets probably need a file and polish aswell
Now I'm convinced not to build a guitar with parts only from Temu ;)
Thanks for this video ...
.
..or wasn't it meant ironically???
Nice first build. Reminds me of all the mistakes I made. For example when I saw you clamp the neck and body together, then bust out the cordless hand drill I was like-- OMG.. Noo. I would have mounted your trem bridge - since the body was already pre-drilled, put the tuners on and a nut, then clamp it together with low and high e strings installed, then you could line everything up. including lining up the pickup screws with the strings. If you had to drill holes for the pick guard that would have been the time. When mounting the neck I use the plate as a guide to drill 4 holes in the body first and use a drill press. Then clamp it together and continue the holes into the neck. Here's where I do something different. Once you have your 3/16" holes drilled through the body and into the neck , I take the neck back over to the drill press and re drill the holes to 9/32 in. The I install Everbuilt #10-32 brass insert nuts (From Lowes) into the neck. Then I mount the neck with #10-32 x 1-1/2in counter sunk screws. Makes for a very tight neck joint. Anyways.. that's my 2 cents :).
Congrats! You are now a professional Luthier!!! Does that neck even have a Truss Rod in it
This is an advert for Temu and should be listed as such, as it contains paid content. This is not a review. How much were you paid to sell your soul? Shameful.
Temu ain’t it bro.

While it was fun to watch I think if someone is looking for an inexpensive guitar to learn on you could get a very inexpensive squier strat for around the same price as your parts (or a little bit more) and it would come already assembled and you could modify it. I know that's not the point of this video but something to consider if you're not looking to build a true partscaster or assemble a kit.
When I saw the guitar clamped down to the table and the drill in your hand, I was terrified for the poor strat. First question in my mind was how well you had fit the neck into the pocket?

Same with Tik Tok.
On the " flame" neck they mention. It's really a tinted wood , to make it look roasted maple , no flame whatsoever. There's a few videos on the temu build o.
