Good advise, our workshop has been pulling sumps to check pickups for years, leaky seat washers is a sump off no questions asked. Blow by is exhaust soot, wet exhaust soot is nasty and loves your pickup!
Hey bud, Great video, wish I knew this 8 months ago. My pick up was blocked starved engine of oil. Welded 5,6,7&8 conrods to crank😭 394k on the clock. Enjoy your vids. Awesome work
One of the first things I did when I got my 200 series with 105k on it. The mini sump is a pain to get off because Toyota use a bonding agent rather than a regular gasket. I didn't replace anything as everything looked ok but as you mention, having a look inside will tell what sort of life the engine has had.
All good BUT no manufacturer has stated in his service book to do this replacement, so what’s their problem with providing the replacement interval, Do they want it to fail,I’am thinking yes they don’t care also automatic transmission fill for life what a joke !! Don’t go to dealers they rip you off , they don’t care After market does such a better job every day !!
Hi Ian, The savaging pump dose not pick up oil from the sump, the savaging pump receives its oil supply from the turbo drain external to the engine. You are looking at the wrong part. We have plenty in stock genuine Toyota for $30.00 if you need one. Thanks Pete.
Is the plastic oil pick-up accessible from just removing the tin oil pan or is it a motor out job and moving the larger alloy assembly? Referring to a VDJ200

Great advice. I did mine 2009 but no issues but better safe than sorry.

I just changed mine thanks Peter
Is there anyone making aftermarket billet ones
Great advice as always mate, thanks👍👍
Great vid I’ll be in contact to order one I’ve just done a turbo I wonder
So when should they be checked in a 200 series? Is there a rule of thumb in terms of years or kms??
Thank you for sharing! Great video.😊
Hey mate, great video. I can't seem to find the oil Pickup online anywhere for a 79 series. Did you have a link or part number ?. Cheers
What klms you recommend replacing pick up on well serviced vehicle
Hi isn’t there a more durable metal upgrade option?
Great stuff, thank you
At how many kms are these being replaced ??
So how long does it take to change out on a VDJ200 - also do you have the pick up/strainer part number handy for reference. Cheers
What sort of K's should this be looked at on a LandCruiser 200 mate?

Hey mate very informative vid, I’ve got a 76 does the upper sump have to come off to change the oil pickup.
Cheers
Tim
I wanted to know the same thing
the implication here is that Toyota don't know what they're doing. Absolutely every scrap of evidence says otherwise.
Great advice
The scavenge pump pick up is not $30 but A$246.28 and there is none in Australia. 6-8 weeks from Japan.

You say the 70 is harder, whats the procedure?
thanks mate

Remove the tin sump 2 bolts a 20 minute job
Another quality Toyota engine department decision. What a joke. Only diesel engine Toyota made worth a shit is the FTE-period.
Hi I have a 2020 76 Land Cruiser will that have the same problem
How hard is this to do on a 70 series? Something I could do at home being somewhat mechanically minded
Yep 👍
Can you change the pickup easily ?
How much do you charge to replace the oil pickup on a 200 Series?
I think he said around 200,000 km mark.
Cheap insurance
These engines don’t seem to be that good lots of issues
