Carrot cake is one of our favourite Singapore hawker food (street food). Contrary to its name, Singapore carrot cake is made of diakon. Here is the base recipe to make steam carrots cake before they are cook into ei white or black.
Ingredients:
Serves 3 - 4 pax
-------
Steamed carrot cake (base)
-----------------------------------
350g of white radish
-----------------------------------
--Flour mixture--
200g of rice flour
2 tablespoons of cornflour
½ teaspoon of salt
250ml of water
1 tablespoon of cooking oil
-----------------------------------
600ml of water
125ml of water (add after mixing the flour mixture with the white radish)
Thanks! Going to try this in our Texas kitchen. I’m Singaporean and am missing some good Singaporean food!

Hello. Thank you so much for your recipe. I have a question, if I put it inside the chiller, how long will it last or until it expired?
You mean in freezer? 2 months. Infact I just made one patch now. What a coincidence!
@@esteeinsweden I mean chiller. My refrigerator has 2 doors. Upper for frozen, the below for the chiller.
In chiller, 2-3 days max in air tight containers or plastic bag.
How long you can keep them in fridge?? Are they to be kept in freezer or normal fridge?
I keep them in freezer. It can last for 6 months.
Measurements please 🙏
Its in the video description.
I've added too much water and my radish cake is still not set after steaming for 2 hours. What should I do
Don't worry, it will be harden when cooled down..
thank you so much ! this recipe helped me a lot and i ( as a child ) was able to cook for my mom
She will be so happy❤️
Esteen Foodie Lover, could i substitute rice flour with sweet potatoe flour. Awaiting for a favourable reply. Thank u so much
I don't know if this would work. Its no harm trying anyway. Thanks for watching. Hope you subscribe too❤️
@@esteeinsweden Dear Foodie Lover, Estee, thank u for ur prompt reply. If i am successful i will no doubt inform u.
Please do. I will wait for your result.
May I know why is it that my carrot cake is still soft after freezing? I have reduced the amount of water as my daikon released a lot of water while cooking...
Yes, it should be soft. Microwave it with a little water first to "steam" the carrots cake if it's dry.
@@esteeinsweden thank you very much for your prompt reply. I'll try again. Still very sticky. Its my 2nd attempt.
Did you cut the carrots cake into cubes before you freeze it? I cutted mined.
@@esteeinsweden I tried ago. It was much better. Thank u very much.
hi actually I have a question after we cook this how long can we keep it in the freezer ?
2 to 3 months. Thank you for watching.
Your recipe states 200g rice flour but in the video you said 400g, so ??
Oh may be I forgot to mentioned that I had doubled the amount. I did it because the daikon was too big.
@@esteeinsweden ok thanks. But I'm confused with the amount of water used.
@@seriouseater7159 mine was a big radish too so i used 400g rice flour. based on the recipe above i would need 500ml water but i used only 400ml because i steamed my radish so my radish had quite a bit of water itself already. then i just added a bit of water from rinsing the inner of my radish and flour mix pot. Turned out better than expected. so i would think add less water first. by the time i transferred to my pan, it was quite firm. but after steaming for an hour, it was just right.
Hi Estée, Since you doubled your rice flour to 400gm, should we double the amount also for the other ingredients? Thank you
Of course, it should be more tastier.
Where can I find the recipe?
In the video description ❤️
Can add hydrated mushroom n hebei (dried shrimps)...?
Of course
Where are the measurements?????
I try before..but My carrot cake becomes soft when I fry..I do not know where the mistake is...
Too much water ?
helo, can i subs cornflour with potatoflour ?
I don't see why not? No harm trying.
@@esteeinsweden thank you for your reply :)
You are so welcome, let me know if the result are good.
@@esteeinsweden i will 😉❤️
Chai is tea in India.. great video
Hi there. Pls share some other recipies call for tapioca flour but instead you used corn flour. Is it interchangable? Also very nice simple video. Good job
I tried tapicoca flour recipe before, it was very sticky and doesn't have the authentic consistency like original carrots cake. Are you allergic to corn flour?
um, im single who can stir for me
This is radish not carrot..
Keep adding water is a misleading !
Not if you keep heating it and allow it too slowly absorb
My dear why are you panting?
You didn't notice I was swollowing my silva att same time? 😂
