- Howdy everyone. Since so many viewers have asked me or DM'd me on the best way to clean cymbals, I decided to use my
GoPro HERO9 Black 5K Waterproof Action Camera
sweetwater.sjv.io/q4mr9n
to make a video showing you how I clean cymbals while on tour with Dead & Co. In this vid I discuss proper cymbal cleaning technique, the best method for cleaning around your cymbal logos without erasing them, AND the best way to polish away those dreaded "GREEN SPOTS". Shot in our 18 wheeler while out w/ Dead & Co. on "The Final Tour 2023" (yes Mickey's drums take up the whole truck ) this video features the polish I currently use the most to clean cymbals. Music Nomad's Cymbals Cleaner . I DO NOT use this polish on Paiste Cymbals. I use this polish mainly on brilliant finish cymbals, and matte finish cymbals that I want to be shiny. If you do not want shiny matte cymbals, don't use this polish.
If you want to try this polish, please use this link to buy it at Sweetwater as by doing so you help to support my channel. Peace, Kenny Sharretts

I have always polished my cymbals. (into my 50th year of playing). I used to try and leave the logo untouched but once I saw Neil Peart and how his logos were removed, I can't wait to polish them off. I know what cymbals I play. I don't care if others know.
I agree 💯
After 40 years of cleaning cymbals i found Bar KEEPERs friend cleaner used with micro fiber cloths is the EASIEST and produces AMAZING results !!!!
Only Kenny could make the least-funnest task of drum maintenance, fun. Thanks, Kenny for yet another great video! 👍🏼

Great lesson Kenny!
Thank you so much for the kind words, and for watching. ✊
I use Zimms and only clean if I'm selling it. It works great and is super easy.
Awesome. I love hearing what works for others. Allows me to broaden my collection of supplies. Thx as always for commenting, and watching.
Only use a polish on brilliant finish cymbals. Water on all others, maybe a mild degreaser for prints and sweat removal. Some enjoy the green spots....patina! I think I still have some AA cymbals buried in the back yard.😂😂😂
Always good to hear of the methods other people use. Thank you for watching, and commenting. 🙏
Hey Kenny, been a fan of everything you've done for years man.💯 I've always wanted to try the Nomad, but was kinda skeptical and wanted to see someone like you use it first. Would you suggest it on the Meinl byzance traditional and brilliant lines?
First of all thank you for the kind words, and for watching. On the Brilliant line use it all day long. The traditional line has a matte finish that this polish will make shiny so I’d be committed to that look if you use it on a traditional line cymbal. Thank you again for watching, and note that tips via Super Thanks are now available on my UA-cam videos to help support my channel.
I haven’t cleaned a cymbal for 30 years LOL
I have been thinking about cleaning mine for about the same amount of time. Haha.
@@mancuniancandidatem lol
Ok I get it now 😉
My logos are long since gone. Never felt the need to chase clout with a logo or brand name. No one who has ever actually cared about the music I make have come up to see who makes my cymbals.
Hi Kenny. You should explain in your next video what youtube thanks or super thank you is. It's nothing to be afraid of 😂
Absolutely, and what a great idea. Thank you 🙌🙌
@@KennySharretts 🙏
Kenny, would sure appreciate it if you could do mine. It is literally the worst job in the world. When you start, you’re excited until you realise how tedious it was the last time. Nice vid 👍🏼
IKR??!! But regular maintenance coupled with wipe downs before you tick them away after a gig can lighten the load. Thank you for the kind words, and for watching.
Hey kenny, ive got a question bout cymbal cleaning, ive got sabian cymbals im using sabian polish , when ive cleaned in the past it seems to pull a shit ton of black on the cloth , is the polishing stripping the alloy outta the cymbal and will it make the cymbal brittle over time ?..
Howdy. Anytime you clean a cymbal, you are taking a bit of the cymbal away. I don’t think you are doing too much damage as it would take a lot of cleaning to make it brittle over time, but I suppose it’s possible. Thank you for watching. 🙏
Hey Kenny ! What cloths do you use for the polishing ??
Generally just a black hand towel for cleaning/polishing , and if possible a t-shirt cloth for buffing. Thank you so much for watching. 🙌
what towels were those?
Never heard of this cleaner before, would it be ok for Paiste cymbals Kenny?
I came for the same question. I play paiste and constantly read about having to only use the paiste brand cleaner (impossible to find) because of the coating on paiste cymbals. Have you found this to be true, Kenny?
@@ThirdEyePried I think Paiste basically discontinued their cymbal cleaner, no idea why though.
I will check with the Nomad Fam
@@thepluggy1 I talked to people at Paiste about that several years ago and they don't get the chemicals necessary for their old cleaner because of restrictions. There was a time when they planned a replacement, but I don't know if that info is still correct today.
I've played PAISTE cymbals since 1978 and have played nothing but PAISTE. I've treated my cymbals as if they were a precious metal (gold or silver). Always keeping them clean from fingerprints - I hate fingerprints on my cymbals - by using PAISTE cymbal cleaner.
For PAISTE to discontinue and not replace it with something else is a complete slap in the face to loyal PAISTE users.
I'm more than disappointed with PAISTE.
Shabian shymbals.
Actually this was a really bad allergy day. Keep ‘em coming!
I just toss mine in an ultrasound at a nearby Air Force base to get all the finger grease and grime. Then put them to an electric automotive polisher making sure it doesn't ever get hot. Logos? Not important since they don't endorse anyhow.
You would be forgiven if you buffed that new Sabian logo off 😆
IKR???!! 😂😂😂
not to pick, but shouldn't you wear gloves on both hands? I wear two gloves, since every time you touch a cymbal it leaves a mark. LOL "mega-buffing wheel."
True that, but I had misplaced my other cymbal cleaning glove, and didn’t want to trash my load out gloves. 😂😂
no judgement
Kenny, did you bite your tongue? Talkin’ so weird…😂
😂😂😂IKR??!! We were in Sarasota Springs and my allergies were going NUTS, so yeah my speech pattern was quite affected by that fact.
And you were keeping your voice down… that mic you had on is sensitive. I actually heard the door when I went out and I didn’t even thump it because I saw you recording
