Yep, I've been using this technique for about a year now, and it's friggin awesome. I use it for a lot of things like motion graphics and also character animation. I'll typically parent a bone to an empty, or use a controller for rotation, then use this technique to animate head movement or eye movement. The results can be as good as motion capture in some cases and can be used in places where motion capture would be extremely expensive or difficult to set up.

is there a way to give "mass" to things in such a way that you "actuate" with a limited amount of Newtons of force and that the object has a certain inertia when it comes to it's movement? The entire reason why certain hand made animations just look wrong is because we humans have an innate sense of 'weight' for all things that we know.. so when something moves far quicker than humanly possible, it already looks fake to us.. the only thing that can remedy that is either heavy machinery or explosives to 'motivate' those jerky movements, but most of the time these animations which live at the human level are just too fake because of the missing inertia of accelerated mass over time... physics baby!

man.. i wonder what this video is all about but i didn't expect this to be a divine revelation.
I wish i knew this when im trying to animate mouse pointer with a natural mouse movement, i ended up green screening my mouse pointer in an imaginary UI when i could literally do this in after effect.
maaan, you have no idea how feel right now. this might be a blender tutorial but this helped me realise that there must be something like this in some video editing software.

This was very good, thank you. Showing those process renders in between steps is a great idea. Also appreciated the comic relief moments!
