Just replaced the starter 5 minutes ago after watching this. Turning the key was only making a single click in the engine from the starter. I did it from the bottom but I did have to quick pop off the radiator hose on top and the big intake pipe on the right above the bolts and it made getting off the bolts pretty dang easy from the top, then switched out the starter from the bottom and bolted it back in! Took less than an hour and I'd never done it before. Car runs great now.
Question, my Elantra also makes a single click sound when turn the key. This is an intermittent problem. Yesterday for example had no problems starting at all. This morning took several tries before would start. Did you have similar problem?
Doing this right now 😒😩 thanks to your videos my fiancé is a truck driver and is out of state sooooo thanks to your videos I’m able to do this on my own (well we shall see 🤣)
My starting motor smelled like burnt wires and it was clicking badly on some start ups. My only complaint on hyundai is random electrical problems and the damn low beams burning up for no reason. Good video!
Helpful video! Had to replace ours from the bottom, but it helps to know what to look for. We also had to remove the air filter for a bit easier access. Only problem was the replacement starter solenoid doesn’t seem to hold onto the wire harness as well so it has popped out. Think ours may be just defective- I never heard the tell-tale click
Helpful how??? All they showed you how to do is disconnect a fucking battery and remove 2 bolts. This is the worst video on how to replace a starter IVE EVER SEEN
@@holdtheline630 it helps to see where everything actually is, but I wouldn’t go through the trouble to take off intake for a 10min remove and replace job from under the car.
@@Teuhcatl well then that should have been mentioned in the video that thr way to do this job is from under the car... either way it doesn't help bc people want to see the ACTUAL job. Not some unrealized unrealistic hypothetical method of doing it.
@@holdtheline630 He said multiple times that you do not have to remove the intake. He also said that you have to do it under the vehicle. Why make false statements if you did not watch the video?
I have found it best to remove the air cleaner and its box from above. This allows extremely easy access to the 2 large starter mounting bolts from above. Unbolting / unsnapping the wires to the starter and also twisting & pulling the unbolted starter is best done from below.
Just a heads up. This is only for a 5th generation Elantra (2011-present). I have a 2010 (which is a 4th generation) and the starter is in a completely different location! Still great video though. 🤣
Anyone looking for the starter location on the Elantra Touring model (2007-20012), it's the same engine 2.0L 4cyl but mirror the location. So the starter is on the back firewall side. You have to go from underneath to see and reach it. I was completely confused that I couldn't find it after watching this video and decided to go under the car to take a look and found it. Same general area on the driver side but on the back of the engine on the firewall side. Same procedure as shown here to remove and replace. Have fun boys and girls! God bless :)
Hi, very well explained, easy to understand. I would like to buy a second-hand Hyundai Elentra 2013 model. Could you please let me know what are the common problem with 2013 model Hyundai Elentra?, I heard there is a problem for reverse gear is not working sometimes, is it true ( for manual transmission ) ?.
I have a 2013 Hyundai Elentra with 191,000 original miles. I am the first owner. I replaced the battery this year (5 years old), front rotors, brake pads, filters, tires and fluids as needed during the full life of the vehicle. I paid $1600 at the 120,000 mile check point to the dealership where I bought the car. There is a recall on the brake pedal button (falls out). I have never had a problem with this car, ever!
I have purchased a 2011 hundai elantra. I really like the car good power good fuel economy good room. I have the rattle at start but it goes away after 1 to 2 seconds its supposed to be common but other than that very good car
I’m trying to figure out the noise my 2017 Elantra is making, I’m not a car person but after watching this video and doing some research before hand I believe my starter is going out. There’s a rattle sound coming from below what I believe to be the manifold it’s located center of the engine. My car starts up pretty rough and loud and sounds loud while driving until my car gets warmed up then it sort of quiets down. Has anyone else had this problem and believe it could be the starter ? I’ve kept up on all routine and required maintenance my 2017 Elantra has 52,000 on it
Shirelle Coakley it depends, if you have no power when you turn over, equals your battery. If you turn over and you hear no click or 1 click, it's your starter. If you hear rapid clicking when turning over, it's your alternator
@@jamaljones566 not necessarily your starter. Could also be the Range Switch aka the Neutral Safety Switch which seems to be a common problem with Elantras
Hi, it's a family of G4FA engine? It looks the same. Anyway, who had an idea to place started in such unpractical place... I have to remove it to block crankshaft for tightening the pulley at the front of engine… Maybe someone know better idea how to block everything?😅

David Hornacek having the same issue
From the research I've done, it seems to be a common problem that a little plastic piece inside of the starter motor breaks.
How much coolant did you lose when you removed the radiator hose?
@@mronemanband1 nope, it was a bad starter.
Thanks guys. This helped a lot. I just swapped my starter today.

Very helpful. Had no idea it would be that easy!
Thank you very much for these videos about Elantra 5th G. They're are so useful!
This video wasn't useful at all
Awesome God bless you for helping people!
Awesome. Very indepth video. Thanks
Thanks boys!
thanks, great video!
wow great video for removing the intake just to show us, dedication! lol
Actually no. They did a disservice by removing it bc it doesn't show what it takes to actually do this job from start to finish.
PATHETIC video

Do you have to get under the car to install the new starter or can you install the new starter from the top as well?

When he dropped the ratchet at about 2:40 I felt that in my soul
For me it wouldn't be whether or not but how many times...

Fuck so no going from the top eh
I've subscribed, gave a thumb up thank you excellent video and i will share this with friends.
Yea....how long did it take to remove the intake?
Would be nice if you showed how to remove the intake manifold.. A longer video in details of where are all the screws would also be helpful..
He said he has over 200 video taking apart this vehicle. Just look up taking out the intake. But you usually go from underneath. I found it useful.
Thanks for the video
Question : the cable connected to starter goes to negative or positive on battery side ?
Positive
does the 2011-2018 elantra use the same starter?
When I remove the air intake will the starter be revealed or is there something else under the intake that is above the starter that will hide it?
The starter on IX35 is located in the same place

That doesn't sound like the start. Once your car starts the starter disengages.
Cool
1:15 or do that
I need a video of how to do it from underneath the car please and thank you
Look at my page it's on there
You would still have to remove the battery cables from the battery, that can't be done underneath the car.
I have a question if my car used to try to turn over and now it doesn’t what does that mean

Worthless
What engine is this? Useless video
Hyundais are the worst cars on earth.
I have a 2010 since 2010 and it's still running great. Only repair so far is I had to replace the alternator. Maybe some years are better than others.
Thank you
