Agreed. I wanted to do it relatively close to the last service since it also wasn’t a full flush. Plus I was curious about the condition of the fluid after 70k miles. Now I know and will likely do it again in another 50K just to keep it alive longer. Pretty cheap to do; just time consuming!
@learnsavediy The initial flush has to be around 30-50k. After that it's just drain & fill. That filter replacement sounds like a nightmare even on a lift. Where I work, we turn down medium duty mechanical like that. Trans shop is better suited.
I’m new to all of this stuff but if you drained it from the bottom wouldn’t gravity pull everything out or why only a certain amount comes out instead of every little bit of ATF?
Great question! There many passages all throughout the transmission making it impossible to get every ounce of fluid out. Shops have fancy machines that will transfer the fluid completely out but you can swap a decent amount as shown here for much cheaper!
Like I said in the video, it had been a while since it was done previously and it wasn’t that expensive or difficult. I can sleep a little bit better knowing the transmission fluid is still is good health.
That atf looked pretty good still, a little dark but still red. Nicely done.

He didn’t even need to change the fluid

Did you notice any improvement in shifting ? was it better or about this same?
To be honest, no. However I never noticed issues before so I guess no news is good news
