  • Camping alone in a small wooded area between 2 farms set in the beautiful County of Hampshire in the south of England.
I took a bivi and tarp on this trip, and cooked some nice food over the camp fire that I lit with char cloth and jute twine.

Dan, as ever a pleasure to watch. Thinking back I can see how far you have come, along with your channel, to be one of the best wildcamp/bushcraft/not too hippy places to find real honest info and ideas on you tube. Your natural way of teaching, along with your humour make your films unmissable. So, top marks on the grub, steak pots and onion always a winner. As far as I am aware "real Scottish porridge" is made with water anyway, so making it with milk is probably considered a bit girlie......😮 ATB Dave

one of my biggest worries as an urban stealth camper is someone tripping and landing on top of you if using the dutchy one, but i can see the low profile use of it being very stealthy in some of my situations. maybe one day, thanks for commenting regaring their usefullness in heavy rain

Excellent as usual. Oh apart from one thing they are getting better!!! You have a great eye for camara shots especially with your drone. I was thinking of getting one but will probably crash it hehe.
I must try the orange brownies. My mouth was watering hehe. I am so glad you decided to get a warmer sleeping bag. It did look very snug. You are so good at lighting fires. I am great at lighting them but it is getting the buggers to stay alight long enough to bite the thicker wood hehe. The jute string is a great idea. It has natural oils I think so that is why it takes so well. Will have to add that to my fire lighting poach... Regards

Can definitely recommend Nido Milk Powder if you want a milky porridge or cereal, its really nice compared to the crappy powdered milk thats commonly available in the UK, you have to buy it online or in World Food shops. Morning Dan, yeah I know, crazy times to be writing comments but I had to do my nightly triage and couldn't get back to sleep so I thought I'd pop back in for a quick comment ;o)
Like many, I'm, loving the longer vids, as someone already said, it allows you to become emersed and live the moment better, definitely a thumbs up from me.
Now, don't take this the wrong way, it's just friendly advice but, as no one else has seen fit to mention it, I thought I would as this whole thing is about sharing and learning right? So, whatever possessed you to camp under a tree that had quite obviously been shedding branches for some considerable time?
When you first arrived at your site it looked like a mess of fallen branches and debris and I was willing you to move on lol, Just an observation and as I need new specs, I may have got the angle wrong and that mess of deadwood had nothing to do with the tree you were under in which case, my apologies but hey, next time flat land is hard to find, my advice would be move on, some of them branches looked big enough to do a serious injury.
Ok with that bit ouit of the way, I loved the whole exersize and I agree with the person who suggested you making some purely instructional vids, as you know I've been following your progress for some time and the speed at which you have picked things up, gone out there, tried them out and been mostly successful is impressive to say the least. You've also been very honest about your failures which bodes well for a great upcoming tutor, in my humble opinion ;o)
Thanks once again for taking us out there with you mate, I'm really looking forward to the next releases of which you spoke earlier, can't wait. All the best as always, be lucky and on to the next :o)

    • @CampLifeBushcraft
      @CampLifeBushcraft  5 років тому +1

I'm not so sure about the tutorials, I think the minute you start telling people how they should be doing things it opens the door on looking like a know it all : )
the place I was camping was littered with branches, nobody had been in there for a long time so I think it was an accumulation of branches over a long period, I did check above me and knocked down a branch.. but I felt pretty confident that nothing else was imminently going to fall.
btw I appreciate you getting involved on the post/comment that was critical. I am happy to answer comments and I take criticism on the chin but when ever a comment gets insulting I have a policy of non engagement.
I responded to their previous comment about wood burning but I'm not prepared to have a argument with them.
I had permission to be there and the land owners blessing to have a fire, but I don't need to explain myself to those who just want a fight.
you can't please everyone and I don't see the point in trying, I just do what I do and if people don't like it they don't need to watch : )
      ATB

@@CampLifeBushcraft All noted mate and no worries, I left it for a day and a night but it had rilled me a little, besides, nothing wrong with a bit of Troll baiting from time to time, but not really OK on someone else's channel so I backed off, I'd said what I needed to and anything more would just have got repetitive. Don't worry, I won't make a habit of it lol.
I think easy tutorials at first, like knots for beginners, simple shelter building, that kind of thing would go down great with the multitude of newcomers to the genre because you have such an easy going manner it's so much easier to learn from rather than from someone trying to baffle you with BS just to show how clever they are but hey, I simply endorsed someone else's opinion and I respect your reasons for not wanting to, but don't sell yourself short, you have a talent :o)
