  • So this week I met up with the delectable ‪@BurtonOutdoors‬ for an overnight wild camp on the edge of a forest. I decided to give using a hammock another go, having previously not enjoyed it too much.
I used a flint and steel to light a fire and Lee cooked a lovely Thai curry on the camp fire.
during the night it got windy and we had some issues, but it was a great night.
But I still hate hammock camping.

Good to see you and Lee back out together again Dan and he cooked for you bet you were watching him all the way through it to get some tips 😂 hammock camping is comfortable if you get the setup correct but I do prefer to do ground dwelling or my canvas stretcher bed atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍

Absolutely mate, it was his one and only dish I think!
yeah ive got one of those stretcher beds, they're not bad.
but you can't beat the ground in my opinion.

Even though you're not at home in a hammock, it definitely looked like an amazing evening! I do enjoy hammocking, I just find you have to take more insulation than you would if you are ground dwelling, so your pack is bigger... I'm guessing that's down to our crap weather (wouldn't need all that in the tropics!). Cheers for sharing chap! James 🙏💚

"In a bath in a sailing boat" - ha! - you haven't sold the idea of hammock camping to me Dan. What a great night out you lads had. Glorious sunny morning - and what a lazy breakfast too. Cheers, Warren :)

Still have to say that that is some awesome red soil there for growing edible veg… as opposed to the smoking variety which I have no interest in.
Lee’s food of the greenery; was it meant to go into the pot or on the woodland floor? 😁
What size Zebra Billy is Lee using there, Dan? 🤣
Nice to see you two chaps out again 😁👍🏼

Oi you! Nothing wrong with a beer review I’ll have you know! 🤣😂🤣😂
I find a hammock the most comfortable sleep ever but man alive do you need a lot of stuff and it takes ages to set up!
Looked like a good night though! 🥰

Haha, I was only messing around.. poking fun at my own ineptitude more than anyone else.
I'm such a fidget at night that I prefer the space ground dwelling gives you to move around.
although I'm tempted to try one of those flat lay hammocks just for fun.

@@CampLifeBushcraft ooh they look good! Well, the haven hammocks, not the amok one that goes the wrong way like a swing! I’d go a$$ over t!t and land on my head! 😂🤣😂🤣

You and me need to stick together as 'tubers that hate hammocks, too many tree swingers in this game.

  • @freeforester1717

    1) if your hammock is under 11 foot long, you’re pi55ing in the wind, you can’t imagine the difference between an 11 or 12 footer (decent ones available in parachute cloth for under £6 in the UK, April 2024) and a shorter one - you cannot get a flat diagonal lay across anything shorter.
    2) No structural ridgeline, WtaF? 83% of overall hammock length is a good starting point for most hammocks so you can have a hammock with a reasonable amount of out of sag.
    3) Why didn’t you tie up your hammock to a bigger tree, one end looked alright trunk wise, the other looked a bit spindly, and perchance a little too yielding to a man of your stature, ahem!
    4) see Devildog Bushcraft Larry’s concise way to get a tight ridgeline for your tarp (looked reasonable at the start, but then you went all ‘diamond-geezer’ on us!)

    • @freeforester1717
      @freeforester1717 5 місяців тому

      5) your underquilt is underwhelming - where’s the loft, ffs? Aside from not needing a mozzie net (we woke up to snow here 26/04/24), you do need space for a comfy flat lay, some decent lofting down both under and over you, and definitely a structural ridge line to set your hammock’s sag, so you don’t have it either too saggy or too taut. Nor at dawn does your UQ look to be anywhere near your shoulders where it should be.
If you felt constricted, try a bigger hammock - a 12k Tukeke is worth a punt at under £6, mate. And get a decent UQ - you’re worth it! If it’s going to be windy, make yourself a UQ protector ( a poly or windproof sheet to prevent the wind from stripping your warmth from you). Delta pegs would keep your tarp pegged down (it is a bigger surface area than a tent, remember) Remember too - any fool can be uncomfortable! Work at it, and you’ll reap the rewards 😊👍🏻

G'day Dan, Lee, hammocks do make a lotta sense to get off the ground, especially with all the nasty ground dwelling critters here and I don't have a problem with set up, but crikey I'll be buggered if I can get comfortable in the darnn things.
Anyway, good to see you two blokes out there again.
What a good look'n beer can, is that a boutique brewery job ?
Glad the MRE didn't need to come into play Dan ; )
Mind you, after wolf'n down that chilli, I expect ...... a garlicky anus would be the least of your worries ; )
    Cheers Duke.

Definitely always wrong, figured you knew that already....according to everybody else😉 Nice one Dan, having Lee along was a surprise as it's been a while since he made an appearance. I was trying to help you light the fire but not helping and I got a good chuckle when you ate the pepper. Too bad the wind didn't comply but that's nature for you. Still I say a success even with a little loss of sleep, it's all good. Thanks for the video and work, well done as always. See ya soon.

Hi Dan, even the Pheasants were taking the piss out of that first set up mate🤣. May be you should try a Haven bud. I have a Haven XL and I love it, flat lay, side sleep, with out all the acrobatics of the Amok to get in and out. Good to see your hammock Guru Lee out again, and so what if you were crap with the hammock set up, when it comes to a fire ya still got it ! Looked Like Chef did a good job on the Ruby too. Keep the videos coming mate really enjoy the work. Big thumbs ups up.
