Can you do a video on why Perez couldn’t get into reverse and why getting into reverse in an f1 car is such a hassle?
I think perez did get into reverse, but his front wing was stuck under the barrier
As the other guy said, Perez did get into reverse, he was just wedged into the barrier (look at his wing when he got out) But look up how reverse works and it will all make sense. Reverse is not synchromesh & you are literally forcing a gear between two other gears to get the gearbox to spin backwards. Sometimes these just don't line up & thus reverse can't be found.
He did get on reverse. The thing is he was stuck and that's why he couldn't back up. Some say reverse is the worst gear in f1, you know because that means you screwed up once you engange it.
You have to do a long series of stuff like HHP position 6 or something like that so drivers don't accidentally go into reverse.
I think getting into reverse is such a hassle coz normally if you go off on a circuit you just do a fancy flick and you're back on track, so generally they don't have a habit of switching to the reverse
I feel like an F1 driver when I use the back buttons behind the steering wheel to change radio stations.
I feel like Verstappen in Spain because mine only work when they feel like it
Question: Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, Niki Lauda told us ‘take a monkey, place him into the cockpit and he is able to drive the car.’ Thirty years later, Sebastian told us ‘I had to start my car like a computer, it’s very complicated.’ And Nico Rosberg said that during the race - I don’t remember what race - he pressed the wrong button on the wheel. Question for you both: is Formula One driving today too complicated with twenty and more buttons on the wheel, are you too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the technical programme during the race? Less buttons, more? Or less and more communication with your engineers?
I'm sorry, can you please repeat the question?
"Can I ask you who that question is to?"
"No he said it was for me- for me and Nico"
"HE DIDN'T LISTEN. CAN YOU REPEAT THE QUESTION?"
Such an icon
massively underrated comment🤣
I laughed when i heard Seb telling that. Cause starting a computer is very easy you just push one button
Listening to what all these buttons do,
I was constantly thinking-
"Gentlemen, A short view into the past"
Hahahahaha
30 years ago,Niki Lauda told us "Take a trained monke, place him into the cockpit, and the monke is able to drive the car."
30 years later sebestian told us " i had to start my car like a computer, it's very complicated"
and nico rosberg said that during the race - don't remember what race- he pressed the wrong button on the wheel
do they use the hand clutch when they shift in between gears? edit: i just googled incase anyone else was wondering and didn't know like me "F1 cars do have a clutch, but not in the same way that your manual car has a clutch. F1 car clutches operate automatically for all gear changes during a race, but they are operated manually at the start of the race to get into first gear, and sometimes if the driver spins or needs to reverse."
Its insane how manny settings modern wheels have, i mean it goes a long way to even drive a car this fast without crashing in the first place. Its so many inputs, where in comparison when I do simracing on PC2 in gt3's i get overwelmed with my 10-15 inputs. Overall its just rad to see what can be changed with a click of a button.
like he said, it's very instinctive, and all the buttons have different textures and shapes, so you'd be able to tell which is which just by feel, obviously you wouldn't be looking down at your wheel too often, but it also depends on the track, some have long straights, where you could micro manage all that stuff on the straight.
Short, snappy and to the point. Great video!
Matts smiling and nodding is hypnotising 🤣
Great vid guys, I’ve always wondered what it all meant
every wheel except williams looks really good because those dudes have the screen mounted on the chassis
pretty sure their technology is archaic compared to the other teams, and that their budget is astoundingly low - but it makes the steering wheel lighter :)
Who knows how much that setup costs. Anytime I see it I always think of low budget, which is insane for a multi million dollar car
Insane that I heard that Williams does that for weight distribution!?
Well your noone is reading the lcd display with the wheel in full lock, Williams approach makes more sense to me.
And then you realize that an F1 steering wheel is worth more than most of our cars. Such a fascinatingly, beautiful piece of technology. But I think I have to ask.
"Question: Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Who is this for?
It's for Nico and myself, you weren't listening, can you repeat the question.
Can you look into F1 helmets? Like how drivers decide wot brand helmet they want? Bell Helmets and the other brand I can't remember. And everything else that goes into drivers helmets. That would be awesome!
A UA-camr called Matt amys did a video on how helmets are made. Would recommend
they already did that, here: ua-cam.com/video/fwFuCFN76v4/v-deo.html
Arai
Hère: ua-cam.com/video/y9EcRkDmu00/v-deo.html
The drivers usually can't choose the brand themselves. The whole aero of the car is usually designed with a specific helmet in mind. So you often see both drivers of the same team driving with the same helmet model.
Edit: But at least Bottas and Ricciardo are exeptions to this.
As always, great video, just leaves me wanting more wtf1
i've never seen an f1 wheel up close; ty @WTF1 for showing us
Just 1 question: where is the "magic" button?
Did the engineers remove/replace it after Azerbaijan?
Asking for a friend..
Pretty sure Merc says those thing in the race debrief. You can go find it in the channel.
iirc magic button is still there where it was, somewhere around top left , they just added additional cover kinda thing so it wont be pressed by mistake. Not sure though
Ah, yes... The classical "How does the F1 wheel work?"
it's not that complicated, it spins, has a tire on it, not that much to it, pretty similar to the one on your car
it's not that complicated, it spins, has a tire on it, not that much to it, pretty similar to the one on your car
This video needs to be renamed to “Every button on an F1 steering wheel in 126 seconds”
Oh good they haven't found my secret consistancy button I use to always get a top 5. Thats a relief. 🙂
I found it
Consistency is key
How you know he's an engineer: look at that left thumb LOL he's smashed it in something.
Lol. I was thinking... Even an F1 mechanic smashes his fingers!
It’s amazing to me, all the stuff that these drivers have to do. Even aside from the actual driving!
Was always curious how the drivers get the DRS flap open at the perfect time. Now I know how. Thanks Matt.
@@ibraal6798 Ik that but drivers might press the DRS button early by misjudging the position of white line so I wasn't quite sure about it.
So, if I understand the technical expert correctly, he had you lot fooled. This was a video about some of the buttons on the steering wheel ;-)
This is rlly cool
I could watch a whole hour about this 😲
aston martin be like" yo guys you all better take note all of this
very interesting that they hear a beep on the DRS zone. I always hought they just saw the sign
This looks like the perfect fidget toy
Where is the "DRINK" button.
You forget the drink. Is the drink, is it on now?
I want to press every single one of those buttons.
Watch it agan , this is GOLD !
Was I the only one looking for "magic" button in lewis's steering wheel.
hey wtf1 very cool vid! :)
It’s somewhat surprising how small the gear paddles are. Maybe it’s just because we’re so used to road cars ones being so much bigger
Matt looked like he had way too much fun before filming this, can't blame him it is Miami after all.
I haven't yet got to the point in f1 2021 game to need to change diff and brake balance mid race, its bonkers how many buttons they have...
i usually look up setups before a race, and then im good, my style is very focused around the car rather that what i feel is right
diff improves traction on slower corners, so if you lose part of your wing or something, turn that up. brake balance is pretty subjective, but i usually go for 56%, it can help you with trail braking, also in dry conditions you want more frontward braking balance, but in rain, your brakes would be more likely to lock up, because of extra force subjected to the front, so you would tip it more rearward.
Everyone: learning about the f1 steering wheel
Me who came here to only find out where the magic button is.
Title: Every button
Video: Most buttons
Freaking awesome
That's enough buttons to make your head spin!
Yo love it , probably they were allowed to show fraction of a sek in certain moments, sorry my English grama is Mclaren Honda engine xD
Can you explain why they’re getting rid of tire blankets next season?
You can adjust inside wheel speed??
Last minute revision be like:
i want one for my racing rig
Kimi's steering wheel also had ZE DRINCC button (exept for that one time)
Sooooooo,
Should we have less or more buttons and settings for future F1 seasons?
No i'm not gonna copy paste that one long question during interview I'm just wondering the same thing and curious with yall people opinions here
The most important button DAS.
It really looks like you have to start up the car like computer
Matt, is looking like the dude is trying to sell him a roomba and he was too shy to tell him he don't need one and now they are so deep in the conversation that he's afraid it would be rude to just leave.
A short few back to the past
Put monke in car,monke drive
He missed out on the "magic button" it does something with the brake balance?
1:12 WRONG the 10+ is basically decreases the position the 1+ is what increases it
1:40 that’s not the cancel button that is the race start button
why does no one ever talk about the drink button?
WHERE IS MY MAGIC BUTTON
video needed to be a little bit longer, didnt even mention they use it for steering
Can anyone explain me they use clutch for gear shifting time?
Didn't see the drink button for Kimi
The question is "Where is the magic button..." ?
Do they have an eco mode for following the safety car ?
Trying to look for some MAGIC......
should have asked him where brake magic is
Wait.. they need to press the clutch on brake zones? That'd be new to me
This is in Miami eh?
the leftover from Miami
So in other words, this is how the drivers push their engineers buttons? 😅
Hey everyone, I just wanted to check in and say hi and have a good day.
No buttun to change music tracks or broadcast stations. :)
Does it make a coffee?
what button puts the banana peel on the track
All I want to know - where is the magic button
Can somebody explain to me why the steering costs so much but it’s essentially a game controller? Genuine question. Aren’t the buttons just inputs that controllers have? Why are they so exponentially more expensive?
Probably because they are custom made for each team - to control different hardware, electronics and softwares of the car - specific to the requirements of the maker. I don't think the steering wheels are interchangeable between different cars. Also they have to withstand the racing conditions such as weather, vibration, safety requirements, etc. To produce niche tool to do specific things well, they are not cheap to make. Otherwise Logitech would make them in droves.
At this point they’re more like pilots the drivers
Which one's for your choons?
Matt, you forgot to ask how many times you have to press the DRS button. There are some sources that suggest only once, but we have also seen that it might take at least 50 button presses.....
There are over 20 buttons and dials on the wheel, why tease and not do an in depth long one?
U forgot the drink button.
Where's the Brake Magic button?
What is a strat?
Where's the brake magic button?
Can it run crisis?
What is HPP?
Where is the magic button 💀
Who’s going to festival of speed tomorrow?
126 seconds, ik :0
Wat about the brake magic tho?
No Netflix on the steering wheel? 😉
where is the magic button!
where was the magic button?
This is so cool What The F**k 1
Where's the magic button?
Where's the magic button
Safety car job is mine
PUSH ANY BUTTON. AND MERC BOUNCE.
I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure it's 125 seconds
50 years ago, Niki Lauda told us…
Put monke in car, monke drive car
And I thought F1 games where complicated
Please make a long video with detailed explanations. Not 120 seconds
I really wonder how much money you make with these 2 to 5 minutes videos
where's magic button
Where’s the drink button for Kimi?
Bit of a hurry today? Just a quick :p
