- I've tested a lot of gaming headsets over the years. There are a lot of good ones out there and maybe even a few great ones. Some of them may be fancier or have more features or bells and whistles than the HyperX Cloud Alpha, but when it comes to overall sound and comfort, none of them are better.
No, the Cloud Alphas don't have 7.1 Dolby Atmos, blah de blah, they''re not wireless, they don't light up. The just sound great in just about any situation.

The short cable attached to the headphones are removable.
I stopped watching as soon as he said that. I own these headphones, don't know what I was watching this. Great headset.
He also left out the fact that they're dual chamber.
Colby Judd good for me then because on my other headsets the headphone jack broke and I had to but a new headset with these I could get a new cable

Listening through these headphones! I think it's unusual for a gaming headset to produce natural sound without overly exaggerating each frequency, resulting in a really good representation, that's why I use it as an all-purpose headphone for gaming and music production. Great review! Subscribed

This review makes me proud I bought these. I also have a SoundblasterX G1 sound card and DAC hooked to it for optimal sound. Not many headsets will beat that combination.
I'm really confused and I wondered if the headset is like a 100% no surround sound or if you can hook up to like a soundcard to get that surround sound?
Are you going to review the new "Hyperx Cloud Mix" headset? I'm curious to see if they sound as good as the Alphas despite the smaller driver size (40mm instead of 50mm). (Great channel by the way)

I bought these wonderful headsets and it’s sounds great on my PS4 and my IPhone Playing games and listen to music is so great also the Dual Chamber design has remarkable that the Bass and treble separating from the base sound that you hear every beat every foot step! It’s definitely better than Turtle Beach and is very durable must own for gaming see you in Overwatch PS4 ID same as UA-cam!

PAINFULLY HONEST TECH , I'd love it if you did! The few reviews I've found that compare the Flights to the Alphas claim the extra price gives you the same sound quality but wireless, and I'd love to see you test that myth.

Just got them and so far I’m pleased. Sound is good and mic is good and make sure you plug everything in all the way.
Haha! I was so nervous when you got to the sound part of the review. When I saw the expression on your face i thought, "Okay, these headphones are going to suck it big time." I'm so happy to hear they sound good while connected to the controller. I actually have a pair of early gen Astros (A50s) and they are starting to give me a little trouble. I was hoping to find a good pair of plug and play headphones, something I can use on my PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, and Nintendo Switch. Looks like I've found them. Thank you so much! :)

I have heard that the Alpha one does not have surrounded 7.1 sound.. and many people mentioned how low the volume of the the chat is when you play with your friends.. While I never felt this using Astro..

My pair came with a strange Garlicky smell from the cushions, was glad to hear you say they are removable I might have to look into that.

Which one to pick up from Alpha vs Revolver S just for hardcore games like PUBG, CSGO, BATTLEFIELD, where step sound and imaging matters. Mic even doesn't matter bcz I have Rode setup for streaming. Money does even matter, just looking to get the right product.

Great review, I've been watching your channel for a while now and I appreciate how honest and detailed your reviews are. I'm thinking of picking up an xbox one in the near future mainly for media purposes and I'm thinking these headphones could go well with that. Also The Xbox one has the dolby atmos app and I'm thinking these headphones could go quite well with that

Damn good headset, if you're looking for a closed back headset.
On PS4, if you sit close enough to your console, I recommend pairing the Alpha with the HyperX USB Soundcard, which comes with the Cloud 2 but is also available separately.
I don't use the virtual surround function of the soundcard, but it makes the Alpha and its mic sound better than when you plug into the PS4 controller.
Just my two cents.
Hi there, thanks for the reviews. I was set on the Revolver S but now I'm on the fence with the Alphas. What in your opinion is a better headset?? I can swing the price of any of them. I play FPS games and listen music on my phone or PC. Thanks and keep the good work.
I don't know how much time you spent with this headset, but there's several clarifications needed here. First, HyperX always uses memory foam in their ear cups, including this Alpha headset. Second, both the microphone & the cable is detachable. Third, the Alpha headset has an inline volume/mute control on the cable. And forth, the short cable can be plugged directly into a PC if there's a a single audio in/microphone out jack.

Enjoy all of your reviews and have been watching since your channel was the JTL. Quick question, how would you compare the Alpha to the TB Elite Pro? The Elites are on sale for $149. I have the Alphas and they are great but I'm just wondering if the Elites are tuned a little more neutral. I am using the headsets with Dolby Atmos or possibly a mixamp pro.

Hi, I got them couple days ago and i found out they sound almost exactly the same as Superlux HD668B even they are semi-open (except the loudness, for some reason the HD668B need more power to reach the maximum volume level even their impedance is lower comparing to alphas). Im not so sure if this is just my bad hearing and i cant spot the differences? could you possibly compare them with HD668B?
What portable amp dac to drive them properly?

Ok so I paired these up with the 2nd gen Astro mix amp & Astro tr mix amp. These are some pretty kick ass cans I will have to say!!! Both mix amps provide more then enough power for the these's cans. Will have to say that these cans are way better than the A40's, Tb's, Razer, and even the senn's gaming cans that they have. These are really comfortable and the mic is awesome in my opinion. And for those TR A40's owners that use the A40's with the TR mix amp, the tinnyness sound and you know what I am talking about, well its gone with these cans. Good recommendation JTL, these are great cans.

Related question: currently have gen 3 A50s and I have to say I don't feel they are living up to their price point. They get uncomfortable and can have some interference pop in. It's minimal but annoying. They also have some other minor tech issues but what doesn't. Anyways, I'm eyeballin the Revolver S headset and wondering if I decided to go that direction would you consider that a huge technical step backwards? I know I'll be making some sacrifices vs the A50s but would you consider them minor enough to say switching to the Revolver S is well worth it and their value?

I'm looking for a PC gaming headphone (please note, not headset as I don't need the silly mics). Would like your opinion on the way to go as I currently have Logitech G633 and the StelSeries Arctis 7. I'm considering buying the Sennheiser HD 599 as they are under $200 on Amazon at moment. Another thought was the Sennheiser HD 600. Your thoughts please on which you would suggest, please keep in mind 1. being plugged into PC 2. No mic required (already have that covered with a better mic than what is on any gaming headset). Thanks
idk why but for me it's an eye sore, I just hate the shade of red on the headphone, it's kinda too flashy for me. Hope they release a silver version like what they did with the could 2.

I have the cloud x’s. Loved them except for the cheap ass inline volume control. You would think that the build quality of the rest of the rig would also mean a high quality inline volume control. Mine stopped working after a couple of months. Is the volume control the same on the alpha?

Could you plug them into the 7.1 D O N G L E from a cloud revolver s or the cloud 2 dongle and itll handle it the same ? (I know you dislike digital surround sound but im curious)
EDIT: read up on these but heard about Crosstalking occuring over the mic with other people because of the holes on top of the cans ? Could you test that out instead ?
you can plug them into the dongle and something will happen, im not really sure but i could just order one and test it.
and no, i have never experienced crosstalk, even with high volumes

For gaming I find the Phillips $50 SPH9500 gives the best target location and sense of accurate locationing.
It is moddable, for different earpads, modmic vmoda mic.

From the Sound Quality... Between Cloud Alpha, Superlux HD668B, Samson SR850, CM MH751 Which one is better for gaming? I don't really care about the price and the closed back or open back things.

What's up JTL, big fan. I need a little advice as I'm having trouble deciding. If you could only have one for all your gaming needs, would you go with these Alphas for $100, or the Astro A50s for $200? What's your experience with the A50s in comparison to the Alphas? I currently have both and trying to decide which to return. I got the Astro A50s on a Black Friday deal for $200. I feel like the Alphas may sound just a little better, but the convenience factor and features of the Astro A50s are much better. I game in my living room and you just can't beat the convenience of wireless. I also love that I can use the A50s for TV watching in Dolby surround as well. I have the optical cable running to my TV instead of my consoles since my TV supports Dolby pass thru, it's more convenient this way. It's a tough decision because I really do love the sound and simplicity of the Alphas. Help! LOL
mjohnsonjr23 dude to me it sounds like u should keep both haha use the Alphas for gaming and the Astros for tv. I have the Alphas I love them I also have Astro A10s and i like them 2 but the Alphas are more comfortable for gaming a few hrs. If u decide on returning the Astros I'd sell them on eBay for like 280 and make some money on them at least lol

Personally, from HyperX, I've ONLY tried both the HyperX Cloud Stinger and Cloud Alpha headsets on my PS4. I must say, to me, they're both completely worth the money. With that being said, I paired the Cloud Stinger headset with the USB sound processor module included with the Playstation Silver Wired Headset and I really enjoyed the clear, punchy, bass sound in games etc. On the other hand, I recently paired the extremely light, comfortable Cloud Alpha headset with the Turtle Beach DSS2 and the sound was also amazingly superb and crisp. Just sayin...
And how is the sound if you use the hyperx cloud alpha via your ps4 controller? I don't have a processor module, so isn't the sound too quiet via ps4 controller?

Is the volume still considered low even if I start a party chat ? I had a problem with cloud flight audio it was mainly the volume being too low even when I had it on max volume while using party chat it would still get messed up and completely unbalanced ( for the ps4) , just wanna know if it’s still high enough or really loud with the cloud alphas if they are used on max volume while using the party chat and are they loud and clear

I was wondering how these would sound with a Astro Mix Amp pro, I went to the spec page and seen that the Impedance is 65 ohms. Now you said that you used it on a ps4 controller, I am wondering if they really sounded good like you say, ps4 controller does not have the power to really enjoy these. You would need a Dac or a mixamp, even the astro mixamp I beleive does not have the power to crank these bad boys up. The Astro TR A40 headset is only 48 ohms. Nice review you should test them out with an astro mix amp?
I was wondering the exact same thing. HyperX told me most controllers have the power for 35-40 ohms so there has to be a drawback.

Your right about having a draw back. These cans are better with a mixamp or dac.
The MixAmp Pro Powers them just fine
I use a Mixamp TR with my Alphas and they sound incredible.

Is the PS4 controller powerful enough to drive these? I've heard of users saying they don't get loud enough and that you should buy the Cloud II USB soundcard to bring out their full potential because their impedence is like 60 Ohms
I came to your channel specifically because you have glasses. My reasoning is any headset I've had has put to much pressure on my glasses and caused pain and cut behind my ears from rubbing with extended use. I game alot so I'm looking for a non painful gaming headset. So how were these for you in extended game sessions? You said they were very comfy which is promising
KvFx LoneWolf I don't have glasses so I can't answer that part but as for comfort these are hands down the best I've had so far and I've had/have a lot of headsets. I have the golds, Tritton T20, Astro A10s, Alphas, and I've had a bunch of turtle beach headsets.... Don't have any or the turtle beach ones tho they have all broke cause they are garbage lol
