deztroyer76 tracking puts it at barely hitting $30 million for the weekend. That's a flop for an obscene budget franchise movie. They likely didn't even make back Tom Cruises salary.
In the 2017 film : THE MUMMY, Tom Cruise plays Nick Morton - - a character that is shallow, self-absorbed, self-seeking, unethical, and vain. In other words Tom Cruise plays himself ;-)
Why did they even say they were going to go back to the horror roots? Was a flat out lie and you could tell from the trailers exactly what they were going for. Cheap action Cheap cgi no horror elements at all.
Nothing quite comes together in this crazy mix of action, jokes, ancient curses and the undead, and even Tom Cruise's star power can't glue the thing together.
Bossu Hotilor I honestly dont know what the point is or whate they are trying to achieve with a monster shared universe like what the hell they want to DO with them. besides we already got goosebumps wich is already an entertaining film filled with classic monsters (from the books that is)
No, it's not a bad idea, it's just not being done really well. Not sure opening with the Mummy was a smart move nor was writing it with the intent of it being a shared universe, it really should be more organic. I really think it should've been told from the POV of a group of monster hunters and maybe start with a movie about them.

The 1999 Branden Fraser mummy is a childhood gem for me! I love the classics but I saw those when I was an adult, I grew up with Fraser yelling at mummies 😀
James, Guillermo Del Toro is scheduled to direct a Frankenstein movie for Universal. Whenever it happens Doug Jones is going to be the monster. I think it'll be great. Del Toro has immense respect for the originals and we know he knows how to make a good movie.
Franky Ramone hopefully del toro will be busy beforehand filming at the mountains of madness so that a true master of horror can be seen on the big screen big budget
GhostFreeman The universe was doomed as soon as they said action over horror. I'd rather the universe be scrapped entirely to maintain the original movie series magic. Do it right or don't do it at all.
I knew this was going yo suck when they released the mummy's 2nd trailer. The mummy is supposed to be a horror! Not an action. Even the 1999 mummy got this right.
La-Z Rider No Fraser, no watch. This was the role our boy needed to help unfuck his shit, and it was so heinously swept out from under him by an overrated lunatic Scientologist.

He's dead on the inside, he now has the charisma of a dead fish. I am so sad for him in a non-sarcastic way. Watch his more recent interviews and you'll understand.
I'll have to agree with Mike here: Rehashing is not only poison for originality, but it destroys the legacy of the originals and obscures them even more to the average movie-goer.
Exactly, at least they have to tried something new in the remake and make it worth watching. The way they switch the antagonist role around in this Mummy movie is a welcome change in pace. But they have to ruin it with their incompetent mind.
That's ludicrous. If it really is that bad people just forget about the new one and keep watching the original. Making a bad reinvention doesn't "destroy it's legacy". You tried, ya failed. Learn from the past and try again
Am I the ONLY one that watched the trailer, saw/heard Tom Cruise's terrible over the top scream when he is tossing about in the C-130, and immediately thought "nope"???
Tom Cruise is a plight on movies. Almost every movie he is in turns to shit sooner than you can say Cruuuise. The guy is just incredibly irritating to me, he personifies the idea of an actor with a planet sized ego.

James said it in a nice way. There is a reason to retell stories, it keeps the stories fresh for new generations. Now, sometimes it's done well, sometimes it's done poorly.
I know James is not a fan of point-and-click games, but whenever I hear him talk about the Universal monsters I keep thinking he should play Hollywood Monsters. Maybe with a guide at hand to solve the moon logic puzzles, but he would get all the references, like when they say that the Mummy and Frankenstein's monster look alike, which is a reference to Boris Karloff playing both characters. The only problem is that it apparently only came out in Spain and Italy (which is a shame, since it's one of my alltime favourite games in the genere), but I think you can play with English subtitles.
Kurtzman's gonna fuck evrything up. He had his fingers in a lot recent "worst films ever". From Transformers 2, The amazing spiderman 2, Star trek 2(Into darkness), etc.
It just looked so bland! Why bother with something that looks like it'd fit in with as a DC movie? In fact, the mummy woman reminds me of the Enchantress from Suicide Squad.
I dunno, it definetely showed a lot of the signs of a bad movie, but I had to watch the trailer many times because I went to the movies so much these past few weeks and I always thought: this looks like it's gonna be shit, but if they play their cards right, it has potential. These days trailers are not representative of movies anymore.
sandiman21 DC movie? Dude DC's on a role right now because of Wonder Woman, so not even the Mummy fits in. This movie would fit with the other bad monster remakes (wolf man 2010, Dracula untold, etc.)

What you'd get wouldn't be a love letter to the classics, but a hour and a half long "This shit was lame and stupid and people who liked it are stupid and lame too".

LMAO 14:05 "It kind of took things from An American Werewolf in London, did you notice that?" (Blank stare. Cut to different part of conversation. ) One has to wonder what was cut out...
One of the reasons I adore the 1999+ Mummy movies are because they actually set them in roughly the same era as the original Universal Mummy movies (the 1999 Mummy taking place in the mid 1920's, The Mummy Returns being set in the early 1930's, and Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in the 1940's). With this new movie, they just made it the present-day, which is really tiring to see in updated classics, where they just set it in the present time. It's not only bad, but it lacks any sort of identity.
Just stop coping Marvel's success. DC is the closest in my opinion... Wonder Woman was bad ass, Suicide Squad was crap but enjoyable and re-watchable, Batman V Superman wasnt great but had some of the most bad ass moments in a superhero film ever, and Man of Steel was my 2nd favorite Superman film to date... This movie did NOTHING for me.
As a castlvania/ghostbusters/monster loving kid... i was happy the monster universe was coming back. Sucks that they pissed it away. Luke Evans as Dracula was cool. Wanted to know what trapped that ancient vampire in the mountain...who he was... Judas? Old Egyptian... Damnnnn!!!!
February 14, 2019 has just passed. That Bride of Frankenstein movie sure was great!/s It's kinda funny watching reviews of movies like this way later, knowing the goals they had in mind not coming to fruition.
Here's how to make a good Universal Monsters movie today. *Step 1:* Hire Guillermo del Toro. *Step 2:* Give him full creative control over the script, filming and final cut. *Step 3:* Make it a one off. Don't force him to shoehorn in references to "Set Up" the cinematic universe. *Step 4:* When it's a success, repeat steps one through four again with another movie.
I really like what James said about how the Universal monsters should be retold to every generation. Something about showing young people what was considered great at one point is heartwarming to me.
Although to be fair, those original great things never disappear, so why would you have to actually remake things? Maybe just letting new people take their part in doing it? Like, let newer actors have their chance at least lol. I dunno
what i cant fathom is that they tried this new universe effort after the mummy.van helsing the big monster rally and the wolfman came out and van helsing was even part of the same tattooed monster hunting cult /protector group that rick in the mummy was nicked from indy and the grail! the wolfman and van helsing were flops very expensive flops so the universe was rejected why did they think this mish mash would bring em flooding in?

The only good 'Universal Monsters' crossovers were the Abbot and Costello flicks😛
pathosis well no. Not just that. There was also House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula.
LMAO 14:05 "It kind of took things from An American Werewolf in London, did you notice that?" (Blank stare. Cut to different part of conversation. ) One has to wonder what was cut out...
Lol I just noticed that, why did they cut out?🤔🤔
I decided NOT to see this before seeing this video
Tim Sevigney agreed
I think Legendary's & Toho's MonsterVerse is doing well.
The one that might to marvel is definitely the Monsterverse
this is the one review I was waiting about the Mummy. I started watching the originals because of James.
I agree with Mike but he could be more articulate.
Damnnnn!!!!
Listen to Iced Earth' "Horror Show"
February 14, 2019 has just passed. That Bride of Frankenstein movie sure was great!/s It's kinda funny watching reviews of movies like this way later, knowing the goals they had in mind not coming to fruition.
Movies are made for money now, not for entertainment.
All movies are made for money. Old movie were made for money, too. It's only recently that movies have been accepted as an art form.
Nah Depp is down for anything seriously, Willy fucking Wonka, anything
5:45 I totally agree with Mike on this.
Love these movie reviews with you guys, keep doing these reviews!
It bombed big time! I hope they don't ruin the legacy anymore. I couldn't even get through the trailer.
Holy shit, I just watched Bubba Ho Tep with my buddy yesterday, it is an awesome movie, watch it instead of this piece of caca-dookie!
They should have made it darker. A horror and adventure movie series where they crossover. But not in a comicbookie way.
this mummy was extremely guilty of doing all the stereotypical female villain moves
Like what?
Yeah, that "Mirror, mirror on the wall" scene was atrocious.
I dunno
100% with Mike! the movie is terrible...
Honestly this movie sounds pretty cool
Remakes are destroying cinema!! Hollywood please stop...
I really like 2010's Wolfman. I wish they would of kept that tone.
it was ok.
The problem I had was it was way too dark in every scene...I had to turn up my brightness.
I also just kept seeing Hopkins as Hannibal.
Mission Imposible : The Mommy
I love the thumbnail. James is like "what the fuck is this movie" and Mike is like "told ya".
#NotMyTheMummy
what i cant fathom is that they tried this new universe effort after the mummy.van helsing the big monster rally and the wolfman came out and van helsing was even part of the same tattooed monster hunting cult /protector group that rick in the mummy was nicked from indy and the grail! the wolfman and van helsing were flops very expensive flops so the universe was rejected why did they think this mish mash would bring em flooding in?
Please watch Captain underpants.
The Mummy 1999 and The Mummy Returns are 2 of my favorite films.
