- The Geminid meteor shower is one of the last of the year’s major celestial showers, and can generally be relied on to put on a good display. Depending on the conditions and how bright the Moon is, it is possible to see 150 meteors an hour! Geminids meteors appear to radiate from near the bright star Castor in the constellation Gemini. However, the actual source of the shooting stars is a stream of debris left behind by asteroid 3200 Phaethon, making this one of the only major showers not to originate from a comet. Tonight I'm planning on braving the currently freezing temperatures in the UK to watch the much anticipated Geminid Meteor Shower. I didn't see any today yet I seen something in the sky many months ago and it was a green light and it curved and a few seconds later, it was gone, what was that...a comet?

This is what I call good astronomy content. Keep it up!
My advice. Get out early evening. The Moon won't be rising untill after 10pm on peak night. The Geminidis usually put on a good show from 6pm onwards with it being so dark so early. In my experience this shower produces mostly meteors about the same brightness as the three Orion's belt stars. Once the Moon is up try and get it out of a direct line of sight, or keep the Moon to your back as you watch. It'll help preserve your dark adaption for longer. :)

Idk why, but I’m just now coming to the realization that meteor showers are really not that far away compared to what we see practically every night. It’s obvious, yet also somehow surreal.
