    I adore my Mag 10. I inherited it from an old customer of mine.
    He was a duck and goose guide and purchased the Ithaca new. After a few years he had a gunsmith cut the barrel to 23" a crimped to a full choke. This gun eats absolutely everything I've ever fed thru it.
    The 10 gauge will deliver far beyond my 12 gauge 3.5"

    I got into the 10 gauge with a similar experience to your woodie story. Goose hunting one day I made what I thought was a good shot on a bird at about 35 yards. I was using a 12 gauge and the bird folded and fell just like on t.v. Well after about 30 seconds that bird stood up, shook its head and flew off! That week I bought a mag-10, they didn't get up after that.

    Make sure you replace the bolt Buffer. And for sure it will crack the action bars and the gas piston will gum up. That gun needs to be cleaned religiously.

    After shooting 12ga for a long time, I recently got a browning 10 ga. Now I exclusively grab my 10ga almost every time I go bird hunting.. I love 10 ga! 10ga also recoils less than 12ga in my experience.

    Good video. A couple points of note on the M10 I made while listening:
    Standard weight on M10’s with a 32” barrel is 11-1/4lbs. Lesser barrel lengths will loose about 1.5oz per inch of barrel less than 32”. So at 26”, your model is in excess of 10-1/2lbs.
    My father and I own four 10 gauges between us and the Mag-10 by far is the best shooter and most comfortable. We have not had such problems with recoil that it leaves us beat up after hunts or patterning sessions with the M10’s, but the Browning G10 and Spanish Double can be unkind with the heavier loads. If the M10 is beating on you with the lighter steel loads (all steel loads made for the 10ga are more gentle in recoil than the 2oz and up lead, bismuth, and tungsten loads, I’d take a look at its fitment to you. Too long or too short on the stock and it may reduce recoil management and impart more force on you than if it was fitted. Equipping the butt with a Kick-Eez or Limbsaver recoil pad will also help. Excess recoil could also be caused by a weak action spring, allowing the bolt to slam into the rear of the receiver and “double-tap” you with recoil. A beat up bolt buffer or spring with very tight coils is a tell tale sign. Wolff springs offers both enhanced and reduced power action springs for the M10. I recommend having both on hand so you can keep the gun running, regardless of the gas volume of the loads you are using.
    The reason the mag tube only holds two rounds is not because of the magazine spring, but because of design of the gas system. The M10 uses a blind magazine tube to allow for the short-stroke piston cup operating system to be placed so that gas is ported about 6” in front of the forcing cone for optimal gas volume and impinge equal force on the free floating op-rod. This design results in a smoother stroke to unlock and cycle the bolt. Ithaca claimed it used the same “counter balance” gas system as the Model 51 autoloader, but that is not really true. While the designed is credited to the same man, the M10 is much simpler and a more refined, larger, version of the model 51.

    Try out some 3 ounce turkey loads from nitro ammo at 1200 fps. They’re awesome. I load my own same weight and speed. 12 gauge can’t touch that.

    I've owned the same shotgun for about 25 years now, Ithaca produced the gun from 1975 ‐ 1989 they came in 32"barrel only factory full choke it was the first auto loader 10GA shotgun ever made, then Remington bought the patent in 1990 and Remington started producing the Sp-10 the Ithaca mag 10 is a very well made design shotgun, it's a long range shotgun for sure, good video sir. Oh yeah it's also a great predator control tool, I've taken several coyotes out to 70‐80 yards!

    10 gauge is far superior to a 12 gauge 3.5 inch! Less recoil as well!

    Are you shooting steel shot out of that fixed full choke??

    • @jordandoutdoors
      @jordandoutdoors  2 роки тому

      Yes I am boss, the 10 gauge barrel can handle it since its not a threaded choke you don't have to worry about it
