    Thank you sir for this one. I love Renault cars and i just dont know why they didn't made some big and strong v8 petrol engine, in some model.
    They have for sure great guys in Renault motorsport familly, but never was built something like that.
    Imagine this coupe with RWD like Alpine, and some 4.0 v8 N/A petrol engine with 300+ hp. . That will be like a dream. . Cheers 🍺

    You commented about the ride...Have found myself that even with an earlier Laguna v6 estate that when the tyres recently reached 6 years old the ride gradually became poor...New continentals and wow...back to smooth svelte ride...could this have been the issue cause a Renault of this class should never be a poor ride unless the tyres are crapped out...Liked your review...Nice stuff...

    Loved the test - I've had one of these for 5 and a half years now - love them! Mine's black with cream interior - but I do also like the metallic cherry red colour. I believe there were only 47 or 49 ever in the UK from new with the (V9X) 3.0 V6 dci engine so it is a SUPER-RARE car - as you say it's in Infiniti cars / SUV's (and in some Nissan Navara models to) but the Laguna Coupe was the first model it was put into. I don't have the electric seats but do have factory fitted front parking sensors and the full spec Sat-Nav with 6 CD Bose 10 speaker sound system. Unfortunately as mine's a March 2010 it doesn't have a USB socket! Great car you have there anyway - and yes the engine is a bit of a monster - it just keeps piling on the power (235 bhp + 450 nm of torque is not bad at all for an 11 year old car..) I even have the hard-back brochure they produced for it. I "only" get about 35 mpg but that's using a lot of the power a lot of the time... One last thought - I find the four wheel steer great for both slow-speed car-park turning and faster flowing bends - you just have to trust the car and you do get the rewards - and a big smile on your face! - so thanks for letting other's know how cool this car was / still is.

      @@DreamCarGarage1 Laguna Coupe wasn't the only one they put the V9X in, the Estate and Liftback versions also could be specced with the Initiale Paris 3.0 dci, although they are incredibly rare. According to Renault's service database only 300-odd Estates left the factories worldwide and I only know about one liftback. There are legends about 3,5 gasoline v6 estates from Switzerland, but finding one of those is like finding a unicorn. I was only able to find information about 10 of these anywhere. Literally rarer cars than Ferrari LaFerrari.

  • @themanualphotographer
    @themanualphotographer 3 роки тому +4

    I have one of these in white with the original Renault bodykit, which I think makes it look even better. It only cost me £3,200 just before lockdown, and I can't think of anything else that can offer this kind of bang for buck. Apart from the bodykit the other difference with mine is Sat Nav built in as well, and black leather interior.
    These are great cars, 45mpg on a run and around 32/33 on general short trips - which is actually easily comparable to the 2L 180hp engines which are awful on fuel for a diesel engine.
    I think the 0-60 is hampered by the gearbox and it seems to pull better in the mid range than from the off.
    You don't see them often, but when they are available you can get them for less than £3k, so a real bargain IMO.

    Renault service technician here to give my two cents.
    The 3.0 DCI is a nice engine, but not that reliable. The one to get for this car is the TCE 205 4cyl petrol F4Rt, as it's reliable and fairly powerful. Same as the one from Mégane Rs but with a smaller turbo.
    Ride quality is way to harsh for a GT so we often fit them with softer springs.
    To improve styling we fit most of them with spacers on the rear end.

    • @after_midnight9592
      @after_midnight9592 2 роки тому +2

      I'm very happy with mine. 2012, TCE 205, manual trans in monaco GP trim.
      Regular maintenance and gas, that's all she needs.
      I prefer to leave the suspension stock, IDK how rear spacers affect 4control and after spacer fitment, the car would have to be lowered as well.

      The 4-Control and harsh suspension are both down to engineers in Dieppe. If the 2008 finance crash hadn't happened, the cars would have followed the success of the Mk1s in rally-sport and made quite a name for themselves.

  • @lowiepete
    @lowiepete Рік тому +2

    Notice my avatar - where have you seen that before? I'm really wondering about your harsh marking. All that top of the range kit for not much money, for example, only 80%?? Closer to 95% in my book. You mention the fact that as it's a coupe, there's bound to be a compromise: it's in the title. So, quite what did Renault not do to lose 20%? The most costly part of that car's body development was in the boot-lid, driven by their desire for a capacious and adjustable boot. In virtually all the categories you mention the number of compromises, or indeed the lack of them, warrant much better scores, IMHO.
    The L3C 2L GT on my drive is now into its 14th year of my ownership and after the Renault R11 Turbo, which I really enjoyed driving, is now my all-time favourite car. As you mentioned, once you get used to kit being there, you'd soon miss it. The rear wheels tucked in are not a design flaw. They meet EU legislation to allow for the fact they steer in and out, else you'd spray loose stones all over your paint or need to fit hideous mud-flaps. The harsh ride can mostly be put down to the Bridgestone tyres the cars were fitted with. Once I got rid, the horrid thrumming in the body disappeared and the clarity of the Bose system also made its presence felt.
    Renault were intent on taking on the Germans in their own back yard, only beaten by the 2008 crash. Back then, whenever I took my car into the dealers they would hold their breath because anything more than checking tyre pressures meant a huge quality control trail of online forms, so Renault were serious! If you're regularly mentioning Aston, BMW and Mercs in your comparisons, then the car is already in pretty good company, n'est ce pas?
    The car was really badly marketed by Renault, indeed you could justifiably claim that it is now their best kept secret. This only because their aspirations for the car were undermined and it ended up costing them a lot of money! The RenaultSport engineers in Dieppe had big plans for the car, but no cash to spend. Since March 2009 I cannot stop admiring my own car: those lines are just sublime. So much bang-for-your-buck from what is often seen as a budget car manufacturer. When I first mentioned that I was going to buy one as soon as they came to market, I got plenty of stick from the "car experts" I knew.
    My car was built to order, and has only been let down by tyre-valves (one exploded). I still feel good about being seen in it after all these years. Since new, I have taken it to shows and it's surprising how the diamond badge has an effect. One wag, on PistonHeads of all places, even commented: "Parked in the wrong place". However, those who do the double-take are often happy enough to admit their error as they come for a closer look. They will then gasp as they realise the quality of finish all-round. They'll know how much I enjoy the car from the stupid grin on my face.
    When I last looked, there were only 5 metallic-mud coloured 2L GT coupes in the UK, oh and my car has, since 2012, passed every MoT with no advisories, ever!

      @@DreamCarGarage1 I dont have many negatives, except random creeking sounds on dashboard on the passenger side when engine is cold at low revs but goes away once engine warms up. Window buttons are first to die but easy to replace.
      As for driving, as you said sometimes bumpy road feels like it doesnt have suspension and its loud inside. On the other hand its super comfortable, plenty of room in the front for a coupe and sitting in another car feels like i downgraded in space and seat comfort and its somehow quiet on well paved roads. For its weight, size and 200hp it relatively ok fuel consumer but it gives me so much power in mid-range when i want to overtake and it makes me feel safe and in control. Overall i get compliments for looks on a daily basis. If it werent for the renault logo behind, people would think its aston martin.
