Sweetheart, my heart hurts for you. Remember that quality of life for our beloved pets is what counts the most. Our pets let us know when it is time to let go. Remember they are a gift we have for only a short time but any and all time with their unconditional love is worth it. I pray comfort and strength for you as well as healing and health for your puppy.
I'm sorry to hear the news about Lion. I actually lost a cat this past weekend due to cancer. Thank you for sharing with us and i hope Lion has a swift recovery
I am so sorry to hear about your furry overlord. Totally get it. Lost my beloved ragdoll to a tumour back in February and it HURTS. If you were to set up a gofundme for the vet bills, I’m sure there are people in the community who would help
Poor Lion, I hope for the best outcome for him. It's so hard when our pets are unwell. Changing the sleeves is such a perfect historical solution. It's gorgeous!
First: I’m so sorry to hear about Lion’s diagnosis. I hope his prognosis is good. Poor baby. Second: I love the overhaul of the bodice. It’s cute! You did well with super limited resources.
Sending my deepest condolences about Lion! I've had pets in my family who have survived tumor removal with good success so I'm sending all the good wishes to you and your fur baby!
Fingers crossed for Lion - cats are so good at being around sickness and apparently their purring is healing for tissue so if you notice Dora going into overdrive in that department shes doing a great job! Lovely transformation. Possibly a small insert of elastic (@2"?) under the cuff over the back seam? Would keep it flexible, up on your arm and be discreet? And yes, we've all been there - completely underestimated how much a gather shortens something. The lace still looks pretty although I too would have preferred the higher look. I know you didn't have the time but if you had - using one of the other laces you could have fussy cut the larger lace pieces, turned it around, resewn it to the dotty tulle and then applied that to the organza with the clear thread. Not sure if it's similar but I've got some too - I think its used in fishing for tying flies? Good luck for a cancellation 🤞
Sorry to hear about Lion. I've just gone thru the same thing with my cat. $3700 later, he's doing good and healing nicely. I hope everything works out and I will be praying for Lion. ❤
We have a big heifer Great Dane who is so spoiled that I jokingly call her our other child. Two years ago she had a huge tumor removed from her side, but we only paid $280 and that included the bath, ear cleaning, and nail trim that we requested. Maybe vet bills are less in rural Louisiana, but $5000 sounds like a lot. Lion is super cute and I’m sure he will make a full recovery! Also, the dress is beautiful. I just love a pleated dress!
Don't forget, if you're willing to drive to South Seattle, that Pacific Fabrics will have a better lace/bridal section. I believe that they do have lace yardage in the bridal fabrics. *hugs* for you and Lion.
I am very sorry to hear about Lion. We went through this ordeal last year with our beloved Zippy. I will be wishing for the very best to you and Lion during this time. Hugs
Rebecca don't be so hard on yourself. The dress is beautiful and I loved the lace and the way it laid. Your hair was adorable and until you mentioned it I couldn't see any color difference. Be kind to you, and best wishes for a good outcome for Lion. Hope you have/ had fun at ball.❤😊❤
I love the dress! You redid the your dress just like the women did in the past!❤ I am so sorry to hear about Lion. Sending warm thoughts a prayers for the little guy! ❤❤
This turned out really pretty! I am very sorry to hear Lion is so sick. My fur baby has wracked up some vet bills this year but she is healthy now & the big bump is gone! Have a happy birthday!
My fur-nephew has had two mast cell tumors removed, about three years apart, one on his back leg and the other on his abdomen. He is now fourteen. Positive thoughts for you and your pup.
Good wishes for Lion's prognosis! I hope all is well for him, you, and Dora. Remaking your dress, so historical and fun. I save usable scraps, too. Never know what you can do with them. Once, I used some bits to make linens for a friend who was custom building doll houses for his nieces.
You DO have the cutest fur-babies ❤ im so sorry to hear such bad news about Lion - i will keep you in my thoughts and have my fingers crossed that the news from the vet is as good as possible. Take care of yourself 🫂. The dress is beautiful and you did an excellent job converting it!
I am so sorry about Lion. Hearing about it immediately brought back memories of my boy Liam, who I lost to a brain tumor two years ago. I hope Lion's condition can be treated with a good quality of life. Until you know, all you can do is enjoy your time with him extra hard. You are both in my thoughts.
I'm very sorry to hear about Lion, I hope he's comfortable and he's lucky to have you as his human I'm going to be at the festival and at all the events you mentioned so hopefully I'll have an opportunity to say hello 👋
I’m so sorry to hear that Lion is not well. I’ll absolutely be sending my most positive thoughts and love his way. I’m not a Christian, I’m an inclusive Heathen and work with the Norse gods. I believe very much in religious consent and would never pray to my gods on behalf of someone else without their knowledge and consent. I’d love to make an offering to the goddess Eir (health and healing) on y’all’s behalf, so if you read this comment and are ok with that, I’d make some Viking flatbread and dress of with butter and honey and ask that she look after Lion and offer whatever aid she can as well as look after you and give you strength to get through this tough time. In any case, I will send positive thoughts yalls way that you get the best prognosis possible and that you feel the support of this community. The dress is beautiful. I’m impressed you were able to continue in this hard time. Take care.
I enjoy your videos so much, and I have always loved seeing Lion & Dora. I am so sad to hear about his health scare. I'm praying that all will go well for him (and you). We love our fur babies, don't we.
I'm wishing you and lion all the best! I'm not much of a commentor but wow- 1830s is WILD! Defo not an aesthetic I enjoy--- eXCEPT those SLEEVES! the ribbons are beyond cute??!! Amazing job
Darn I'm sorry to hear that lion is sick. Hopefully you will have good need in that front. Also I hope you were able to hhave a good birthday despite the news! The gown looks so different with the new sleeves. You look stunning with it on
It turned out beautifully and fits so nicely! I like the lace hanging slightly longer. Was thinking a little puff of batting or something under the shoulder of the sleeves would give a bit of lift and might bring the sleeve up just a hair. I might try to get to Port Townsend for one of the events.
That dress is ridiculous and I love it! I hope for a good resolution for Lion. Cancer is a devil of an illness and chemo is harsh enough to endure for humans who can understand what is happening. I hope for both of your sakes that it is a benign variant.
I'm sorry to hear about Lion. I lost both of my rabbits this summer in the weeks leading up to my birthday. I had been going to surrender them to a shelter in preparation for a move, so maybe they wanted to spend their last days with me. I wish that someone else had been able to pet their sweet little noses. The vet I took them to for cremation sent me a condolences card with their footprints in it. I put both of them in the same frame, and it's hanging on the wall next to my desk
It looks like the dress has a pretty high back, so here is an idea, not sure if it will work or clash too much with the esthetic, but perhaps some white muslin(or similar material of your choosing) poofs for the upper arms that you can slide on, then use an elastic band across the back from perhaps the underarm area of the poof to hold it in place and connected to the opposite orientation? This could be put on over the corset, and under the corset cover to minimize any potential digging or visibility issues. Or even potentially elasticized arm poofs(not historically accurate, but functional). Just a random thought. Lovely conversion, Love the final look!
I hadn't thought about using elastic to connect the sleeve supports. I think the best way is to tie them in to the armseyes of the dress, but the issue is that if I'm wearing the sleeve supports, then I usually lose the ability to do up a back-closing bodice by myself.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Is it a zip up? If so, and if the zipper has a eye to add a zipper pull, you could add some long lacing/ribbon/etc on it and then use that to pull up the zipper. Then just tuck it away into the dress when done. If the sleeve cuff would allow it, you could make individual elasticized poofs, that once the dress is on can be slipped on and stuffed up into the sleeve and adjusted from there. Just trying to help, sometimes things are best being bounced around until a solution can be found. Good Luck!
I'm sooo sorry to hear about Lion! He's such a sweet lil pup! I wish him a speedy recovery! *huggles him and gives him some good boy belly rubs* I also want to wish you a happy bday! *huggles* I'm really sorry it's not as happy as it could be. *huggles* And lastly, your dress is really pretty!! I love how you were able to go from to day to night with it! And I bet it's historically accurate too! If they can take an older dress and "refresh" it for a young girl, who's becoming a young woman, then why not take a dress and make it into a ball gown! I bet women at the time regularly upcycled their clothes! 🙂 OOPS! I nearly forgot! 😆 Break a leg and have fun at the cast party!!! (puns unintended! 😆)
Not so much transformed an old costume into a new one but have definitely taken a few pieces out of the UFO box they ended up in when they didn't fit well, and made them work once my skills caught up with my ideas... I like that pink a lot, it's a nice deep colour. And I love how you did the sleeves I keep watching your makes to hope some of the ability to place bows and puffs and other embellishments will rub off on me, but I'm still very boring and uninpired when it comes to the pretty stuff LOL Love the fake piping trck, I need to try that next time I need a belt or tie. Sorry to hear about Lion's diagnosis, poor you. I hope you find out the best solution for him.
Maybe a narrow ribbon, in a color coordinating with the main color of the gown, sewn over the seams where the lace is attached to the organza layer? (Ribbon trims worked for Mrs. Cratchit in Dickens' "A Christmas Carol", after all, although she surely didn't own any ball gowns.) Good thing you had that clear thread! Prayers on the way for your cat's health! (We took in my mom's cat a year ago last Thanksgiving, and he's become quite a cherished member of the family.)
I'm sorry about Lion. My dog had several Mast cell tumors in the past. Her vet removed them. It's been over 3 years and she is doing well. Hope you will have the same outcome.
I ❤ Into the Woods ! I have only seen it on TV but had recorded it and played it tons! Hope to see it live one day. Will your Joanne's stay open? I liked both laces and you can press it on low with a press cloth.....oh no sad news on your pet. Life happens 😢💗 Your dress transformation looks wonderful! 💖
I have given to the gofundme for you little family. Our Pets are everything... I wish I could help with more but sending what I could with love to Lion and Dora and to you. 🐿🌹
Boo to whatever is plaguing Lion! That's a neat transformation but LOVE your hairdo which really makes a difference. I was going to suggest faking shorter puffed sleeves by sewing shorter length ribbons /tapes on the inside at the shoulder and cuff which could shorten the length without supports? But the lace will then hang longer as you observe and I am not sure you want that disparity.
I recently had a mast cell tumor from my dog. Hang in there! Mine is 14 though so even if it spreads (and he has another lump in his armpit so probably) we will.just do palliative care for him.

I’m so sorry about Lion!
I love this project. It feels very 1830s. When dresses are expensive remaking a dress you have is absolutely a thing.

Those sleeve conversions are just great!
I can’t believe you held it together so well with this announcement. Hugs to you and Lion and Dora. I hope you will all be ok.
Lots of love to the sweet little Lion
I may be completely in love with the late-Romantic Era of the 1830s! It may be crazy, Bu kit was fun!
Absolutely gorgeous prayers for you Lion and Dora
So sorry to hear about Lion, wishing him well, ❤❤❤
love that you were able to use your scraps...really love that you HAD all the scraps
I always try to save anything bigger than a few inches, particularly if I don't have much of it left to begin with.
I'm crying for Lion - and for you. Prayers for the best outcome. It's heartbreaking to have a pet that's seriously ill.
This turned out super cute!

I hope for a good resolution for Lion. Cancer is a devil of an illness and chemo is harsh enough to endure for humans who can understand what is happening. I hope for both of your sakes that it is a benign variant.
