Your skills are amazing. My mother didn't sew and I never took home ec in school. However in my 40's I decided I wanted to learn. I took a few sewing classes and actually made a scub top (I'm a nurse.) But even with that simple pattern it was hard to get things just right. To watch you cut out and sew this complicated garment in a few hours is unbelievable. I am extremely impressed.
When you know the skills and techniques you need for a garment you can see them in your mind and are able to do it like second nature like I’ve been sewing since I was 8 and I’ll be 21 this year so you just have it stored away in your brain it does come with time tho
Well, that must lift everybody's mood: seeing you skipping through a field filled with poppies, in a beautiful finished 1830 Day Dress to the sound of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy". Thank you so much for sharing your work with us on UA-cam.
I am deeply impressed by how efficiently you work......if this was me I’d still be cutting three days in lol. Goes to show how good you get when you do this stuff every day, day in day out, getting lots of practice.
I used to make the 1836 dresses at Conner Prairie Living History Museum in central Indiana and I loved making them. A lot of the dresses had to be hand sewn - at least anywhere where the stitches or seams showed. None in silk, though. Also, I made a corded petticoat - all hand sewed - that took me over 25 hours just to sew the cords in. I was a volunteer and I loved it!! I did make one 1870's dress for the school teacher on a different area of Conner Prairie, too. At least that one could be machine sewed. Thank you for showing this. It brought back lots of great memories.
I love the more extended explanation format. Anytime someone explains their technique or why they are doing something a specific way automatically makes me like the video more! ❤️❤️ Honestly this is insane! You did that in six hours??? I have so much admiration for you! It’s astounding really! Lol 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Brava!
This video was perfect for this mornings coffee sipping and cat cuddling hour! After a long week of coordinating relatives for a Covid-19 safe outdoor memorial service, and providing food, and trying to keep people happy, I am SO tired. Watching this video felt like spending much needed chill time with a friend. Thank you madam for a wonderful morning ❤️
Hi..I really enjoyed this video..I enjoyed watching you work and seeing what goes into making a dress..we get to see a day in your life as well..I'd like to see more of these from you..it's nice to see how you organize your day and stop to take care of yourself too..as an aspiring seamstress I learn from you..I like to see different prints and colors as florals are not always easy to find..I've become a great fan of your work and I like your smiling eyes 😊
OMG!!! As someone returning to a sewing machine since I was in school, you are so inspirational! I want to attempt this with buffalo check with the red and black.
What a treat to watch you at work, such nimble fingers and your vision to what the finished product will look like leaves me speechless (well, I'm a Southern girl from the states and we are never really speechless lol). You brought the pattern together beautifully, coordinating the blocks and the color scheme, it's just too amazing to see it all come together....and in such short a time! Enjoyed it very much....and I can't sew a stitch myself haha.
That skirt is to die for! Having the dark color on top. By the way, I was exhausted watching this. Ha Ha! Your face and voice are very soothing. Thank you for posting!
I know some sewing stuff but just to think how much I could learn if I was just in the studio to watch a dress in a day... or any day really. also... I don't quilt, but MAN such quality scraps would be gold.
You are not only an amazing talent, you are quite gifted at making what you do look easy. Thank you for sharing your work. I love watching each and every one of the video's you make.
I love how you work the plaid. I always avoid plaid because it needs to be matched! In my old age I find that quilting is more enjoyable than garment sewing. I absolutely love your channel, and you are a fabulous seamstress!♥️👍😎 So glad you included Ode to Joy!
The ''it's about 11 o'clock'' part plays twice in a row and the caption lags because of it, but otherwise it's an amazing video and the dress turned out great!!
Your accent, your voice, your beauty, your craftsmanship, your passion! I am a fashion stylist and you just inspired me to take sewing lessons because I want to create as beautiful dresses as yours 😍
This was wonderful to watch and the dress turned out so lovely. I swear I've seen that exact fabric on a french painting of a picnic but for the life of me I can't find it. Thank you for the beautiful video. I've never thought of doing some exercises in between. Perhaps I simply love the extreme pain in my neck and back after hours of bad posture sewing, hehe. I think I might try it.
What a beautiful dress! I could hear every rustle the fabric made, which made me want to play dress up! You can accomplish much more than the average person with just six hours in a sewing room!
What a beautiful piece of work!! Isabella, you amaze me every time you put up a new video. These one day makes are astonishing to me! I only just started teaching myself to sew a few months ago and right now it seems like I’ll never be this good! Practice makes perfect though 🤞💕
This is so eye opening to how many hours of work go into a historical garment. Love the behind the scenes look into your sewing room and preparation involved.
@@priorattire And you do it sew well! 😍 (Seriously, your stuff is amazing) As a stay at home mom it took me a week to finish one pocket. 🤣 I wouldn't give it up for the world but, I do get jealous occasionally when I see people who can spend all day on one thing, even if it is how you earn your living.🙂
I’m a stay-at-home mom, too and I make historical dresses. It gets better with time, as they grow. Plus it’s a matter of organization, and setting priorities as well as deadlines.
Gorgeous dress. I've not been much of a seamstress ever, but I love the history of costume and the fascinating mechanics of piecing it all together. Love it!
that was wonderful, i used to sew but made a solid decision that i am much more gifted oil painter than a seamstress.and i have cupboards of material to make more quilts but ... I hate sewing , mostly all the tearing out I have to make. if you can understand me. I had to lhave each stitch just perfect, and that took all the joy out of it
lovely! at first, i thought the plaid had a bit too much contrast, but when i saw what you did with the pleating, i thought it turned our really pretty!
I did a dress in a day today. But it was only a doll dress, and it wound up too short. Having a pattern would probably have helped. lol I love the print on this. So beautiful and loud.
you far from on your own with the hoarding. both an old girlfriend and my mum had boxes of scraps and ends balls of wool from dressmaking and knitting. it seems to be a thing like us guys saving bits of wood and spare screws from doing DIY jobs. :)
you inspire me to want to make historical style clothes just for the fun of it! I am not experienced even with making modern clothes, or even altering them, so it will be a white before I can try it out.
Excellent, I feel so happy to see there are still some of us that care for that era. And the music choice great as well, because it was the fashionable music those days. May I suggest for future dresses from the same period (1830's) to play some Schubert's pieces?
It’s so motivating to see you just get shit done. Like not procrastination, not going into a pit of despair for not doing something right or not understanding something. Just do what needs to be done and if it needs to be redone-then it was a learning experience. Thank you😘
Amazing you decided to use your fabrics natural pattern to help create the pleats. Beautiful collection/pattern fabric choice. Very within period and bold! Enjoy watching your creative process. Do more sewing and construction video's!
Love the dress! Magnificent! And the bonnet is stunning! Please add to your music the first movement of Beethoven’s “Moonlight” Sonata. Yes, I am an unashamed Beethoven nerd!
Gloucestershire...is where my great great grandfather came from, Tockington. He was born in 1825. I’ve never been to England but I’ve always dreamed of looking for family living or past. I love the period dramas and history, especially if it’s about family! Beautiful dress. I don’t know if I would enjoy wearing anything like that, especially the corsets. But I really enjoyed the video! 👍👍
This was really impressive to watch! An entire dress with matching accessories in one day?! I wish I was that good at dressmaking lol. BTW, at 5:39 to 7:13 you've accidentally added in the exact same footage and commentary shown earlier in the video from 2:04 to 3:35.
I always enjoy your videos. At the same time, I am astonished at how fast you are. It makes me feel as if I'm not doing enough! Lol! Beautiful as always.
I would love to see your closet. It must be magnificent.
It must be enormous.
Why’s everyone hating on the colors! They’re so 1830s and something about a dress with so bold of a pattern with that crazy silhouette is super cool!
Well, she did say it was, "a bit of an eyesore". But I'm sure it was appropriate for the 1830s - shudder.😁
Honestly, can you get anymore Hufflepuff? 😁💛🖤🦡

Nice plaid elements placement. It's nice to hear your thought process as you go.

It’s amazing what you can accomplish in such a short period! Beautiful!
So lovely - the 1830s is such a charming silhouette and looks so much fun to wear. Love the fabric and everything about the dress!
This fabric is sooooo beautiful! And I love the sound of it.
Yesss, very ASMR-esque 💙
Fantastic skill and speed. Hate this yellow but typical of garish silk of that period. Very impressive work.
if it had been an equally loud but pink plaid, i'd have gone onto the website and clicked "buy" before even finishing watching the video! :}

Absolutely beautiful. I loved watching you make it. Thank you for sharing!
Come for the historical costuming inspiration, stay for the classical music selection! 😻
That yellow plaid...it made me think of “Cher” from “Clueless.” That was the first thing that came to mind. 😂
Love the fabric of this dress. I never thought you’d be able to get all of those stripes to match!!! Bravo!!!

You really do work hard despite the fast motion forward. So much done in an hour!
