I'm stunned by his masterful stick and drum control, his otherworldly coordination that allows him to play complex polyrhythms, and his musicality on the kit. In my opinion, this clip alone puts him in the elite category of drummers worldwide.
You just speak my mind. This is exactly what I thought after listening to this solo. There is no other drummer to match him Antonio is the GOAT. He is a genius.
Well said! The afro-cuban roots evident in his approach; relaxing, mesmerizing, invigorating all at the same time. These are the elements which have draw me to the music of Central & South America, Brazilian Samba School, Merengue, Salsa, partido alto, et al over the last 2+ decades of my life. For me, the true delineator for Antonio is that he brings his sound to a genre that had not wholly incorporated it before. Que mezcla perfecta! OH, and a very special thanks to Pat for promulgating his platform; right to the hearts of steadfast Modern American Jazz audiences.
@@budda777pl I agree with your sentiment. But, for me Antonio Sanchez is a trailblazer, a visionary. We see 'technically better' in almost every pillar of civilization.. until the next one comes around that's even better. In regard to the value-add to the proverbial 'record collection'.. Antonio will leave much more of a resounding template for the steering and evolution of both percussionists and the Fusion Jazz movement as a whole, well into the future... I think more so than another 'techie drummer'. This shall become even more so as the incorporation of AI and 'slick mac tools' become more commonplace. You can't fake a passionate human soul nor raw human artistic ingenuity. (..at least not yet? lol)
How the hell does he keep the clave on his left foot and play all that out of time stuff on top. Never heard anything like him. He has taken the left foot clave to a whole new level. Mind-boggling. I love it.
Dude! How does he get so many sounds out of those drums? Man, he's got dynamics! He could please those people who think that drums alone is not considered music. This was music. Not overdone. Not commonly seen stuff. Just straight creativity and MUSIC!
What I love about this solo is not just the technical genius, but also how Antonio stays true to the tradition of the Latin music throughout the whole thing. So many people use the clave as a gimmick to show off their independence and use it in the wrong context, but Antonio knows the authentic way to incorporate it into his solos.
Just Outstanding, say no more.I just love 4 limb coordination, the ideas he demonstrates is just blowin my mind. His touch and tuning is incredible. The Sounds he brings is all those i have been wanting to hear in one drumming individual truly the best demonstration of drumming at it's finest.I'm in awe of this cat, their would'nt be many if any that plays like Antonio Sanchez.
I'll never forget seeing Antonio with Pat Metheny Trio in New Haven, CT. The diverse styles and flawless control of those three men on one stage... Unparalleled. I'm also a bit curious as to the identity of the 5 "dislikes" on this! Damn shame!
The people watching are too fucking stoic and serious, likely all serious drummers, analyzing the shit out of everything he's doing. If I were there I'd be grinning like crazy. How can you not, hearing such talent?
+Dooality Beat is everything after all. A guitarist for 32 years myself. Though, believe it or not, the most accomplished arrangers seem to be Bass players. An accurate sense of tempo is their forte, hence the their predominance in the area. Sanchez is remarkable! I can listen to him all day! Happy new year!
+Dooality Well, don't we guitarists do the same? Overthink the shit out of everything at some point or another? I'm my worst critic anyways so, who gives a flying fuck about what others think? We all do, because we are all self conscious and insecure at some level. Sanchez plays like you and I do, because it feels good, it is pleasing to us and we can't help but just do it. Pick a fight with the instrument and all your sweat, blood and tears deconstructing it then putting it all together again elegantly.
todo ritmo en esencia ha sido producto de fusion . y los origenes primitivos de cada ritmo conocido el los representa atravez de su independencia de extremidades.
that pattern with the left foot on the cowbell can only be done by 1 out of a million drummers... No more than 100 drummers in the world can do that, is that simple...

@@novan3184technically there are a few better, but that musicality..
@@budda777pl overall, basically none, maybe one or two, but in very specific aspects of technique there are a quite a few

Very creative...he explored every timbre in that set up....
How can anyone be that good...
Fantastic musician. Thank you Mr. Sanchez.
So happy to have shot video of Antonio playing live in Boston last week. Take a look in glorious 1080p HD at WGBH Music. This guy is insane.
Viva México cabrones¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ Antonio grande, pedazo de batería, buenísimo...
Coordination at it's highest order. Wow. Just wow. Words would insult his talent.

Most of drummers are hitting harder, they dont use dinamics.
Absolute class from Antonio Sanchez.

this dude plays so musically/creatively/tastefully...i'm rarely satisfied listening just to drums but this guy is a master.
gives new meaning to the idea of limb independence!!! Incredible.
Great drummer...
The end bit looks like it's being fast forwarded. The tom bit @ 8:00 reminded alot of Tony. Amazing touch and dynamics and modulations
best jazz drummer alive , hands down

That gave me goose bumps. Never heard drums as awesome as this.
Excelente maravillosa expresión de técnica, dinámicos , disociación, musicalidad......gran talento Antonio......bendiciones

one of my favourites drummers GREAT DRUMMER!!!The rythm is full of different and amazing sounds and nice technique

+Dooality Exactly!!!!! Watching Antonio live brings a shit eating grin to my face and I am a guitarist!
Tom Pernal As am I. Maybe it's a guitarist thing ;)

Man, his metric modulations are unreal! And with a clave pattern underneath it all too!
La maquina total. Grandísimo percusionista
6:39 the way he slowly morphs those ideas into something else is amazing
Like two souls in one body....
This is just pure fun to me!
Wow!
just found out about this guy, and already he is a huge influence on my drumming, hes so creative and amazing i love his playing. AMAZING
PURO MEXICANO!!!
Just started watching Get shorty the show, this is now my 5th video of Antonio Sanchez. Amazing and looking forward to more!
So proud (: He's one of the best mexican drummers:D such an influence^^
2018 and still completely baffled!
Absolutly mesmerizing!!
Beast !
holy friggn crap! the finger tips on the snare! wahhh? this guy is seriously the most talented drummer ever
To all drummers: don´t hear this. This man com from outerspace! Awesome, brilliant... !!!
His left foot has it's own mind. What kind of sorcery is this?!
Superb comment and true.... It's witchcraft or 'alien foot syndrome'...
That left foot cowbell beat is wayy too repetitive and ruins the solo, would have been better on hi-hat than cowbell. Excellent solo otherwise though.
+1Willum1 You sir are Blank... He is playing with 4 way independence, can you?
+Tom Pernal To an extent.. 4 way independence aside, I'll call out a repetitive annoyance if I see it.
+1Willum1 If you don't point out eachothers flaws in a band you will just continue sucking.
Holy balls this drummer is unreal!
Amazing drum and bass-style licks Im suprised by that.
Mamma mia, è un alieno!!!!!!!
Which planet does he come from! absolutely amazing! never seen something like him before!!!
Bravo, maestro!!!!!!!!
Awesome, unbelievable ;-)
Increíble técnica, ritmo y velocidad. Bravo Antonio!
Is grip looks sooooooooooooo tight!!!Yet,such technique and feeling.Gotta love Sanchez!
This is probably one of the most mind blowing drum solos I've ever seen. Is Sanchez the best Latin jazz drummer ever?
Buena esa del min 8:05 de la banda de guerra. Saludos!
Un agasajo siempre ver a Antonio Sánchez.
No me había fijado, no manches y lo hace completamente Independiente de lo que está haciendo con el pie izquierdo. Es un animal…
I think it's pretty awesome how he approaches drum and bass playing so differently. More linear ideas from Antonio it seems.
3:45, okay that is actually incredible. I saw this guy do a clinic at Sweetwater, cool guy and great drummer.
Proudly Mexican.
Don't be racist, any race or nationality can drum good if they put work in it.
It is what it is , nothing more or less and im not being racist AT ALL.
yeah right weho: es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_S%C3%A1nchez_(baterista)
But at least we agree on something: no matter where he is from he is a great drummer dont you think so jared and weho?
jarred stuart Don't imply racism where it doesn't exist. He can be proudly Mexican if he wants, it isn't hurting anyone.
I've seen him play only a few feet from me and it was absolutely cathartic.
¡Impresionante! es muy difícil decidirse, el negro Hernández o este compadre como el mejor.
Saludos

Wow, This guy has some serious independence coordination!!! I thought he played very musically & technically together well.
Clever setup with a bass drum hitting a wood block. Good stuff!
What a great musician.
I LOVE it ! Friendships dear Antonio (at the Yamaha drumshow Paris november 2019 )
Very well tuned kit and excellent cymbal choices.
the best!!!
That's music. That's percussion.
GENIO! .

Simply incredible!!!!!!!
Man I was trying to figure out where was the cowbell coming from. This guy is amazing
INCRÍVEL!!!
As I hear this track I can hear how this dude makes love with that drum kit. By god!
impresionante, este tipo si sabe como proyectar, es super expresivo con su técnica y sobre todo con su imaginación

amazing as always
Stylistic things in his playing and his vibe are making me think this dude may have marched DCI at some point.
Genio hermano! Abrazos desde mi Buenos Aires querido. :)))

This is when drumming gets interesting. :)
Genius

I went to see him. He blew my mind.
I'd love to see a scan of what his brain is going through while he's playing at this level...just unreal.
Antonio “Bald Spot” Sanchez 👏 😂
Ohh man!,that bald spot be givin him super powers like Samson
Amazing...
Did anyone else hear (what seemed to me) the Dennis Chambers influence at 7:04? Absolutely an amazing drummer!
drum n'bass... not easy to play! really good
You know it's about to get real good when he takes off his headphones.
Dude doesn't look like he is drumming as fast as he really is. More than meets the eye with this one. Phenomenal.
amazing
