Simply WOW! Riding this is way beyond my skill level, just stunning. You should be incredibly proud of what you have created here. Not only a legacy to remember the loss of the Pike 29 but a legacy for the team that built it!
Cheers, it’s definitely a change from the norm in some regards. The first long track through a national park that was built and designed for riding. You can pump the whole way down it. Hope you enjoy when you get a chance to get it 🤙
You guys went way above and beyond with the way you made the trail, where it would of been easy to go straight you have made for some really enjoyable turns. I rode the trail by accident Feb 24 while heading on the Paparoa trail, I found the signage slightly confusing, plus when i asked the shuttle driver if there was just one up and down the Paparoa Trail he agreed. I ended up marooned at the Pike 29 Memorial car park. A long story short I had to call out the police to ferry me back to my car at the Punakaiki shuttle pick up point.
Thank you. I haven’t seen the signage yet. It’s possibly something that could be improved. Maybe a map would help. I think you got to ride the best bit of trail because of it though.
Fantastic vid!!...Loved the details provided by your voiceover...Get it on Pinkbike movie Mondays too!! Damn...I'll be biking Nelson/Marlborough/West Coast over Xmas /New Year...bummer it won't be open by then, but RIP the miners.
You can see the portal from the track, and the track take you right down to just below the mine entrance. For that reason it’s still closed while they do their never ending recovery.
Exactly, nothing. The signs are only there because theoretically you’re not allowed e-bikes (motorised vehicles) in a national park. However e-bikes don’t make any problems so it’s just a legal technically. Just do it.
Just checked the DOC website....track still closed...sheesh,enough already with this "never ending recovery" I'll be back on the Paparoa for the 3rd year this Dec and will be riding Pike 29 open or not....And I'm sure I won't be the first🙂
Not to mention the price! Over $50 million and they still want more. The Pike recovery people are in cushy jobs hidden away from scrutiny up the end of the Pike valley, and they don’t want to give them up. The years that I was up there all they were ever doing was drinking coffee in the office. Hopefully the track isn’t in a state of total disrepair. Also hopefully when they do open it they don’t get a team of labourers flattening it out to be the same as the Paparoa track. We made this track specifically to be the biking track!
@@TomWoodwardVideos I hear ya...Was going to ask if anyone was riding/maintaining the track....Must be bloody frustrating for you trail builders....Thanx for your reply!...Cheers
Wow, this ride looks like so much fun. (If only there were a way to avoid having to climb back up afterwards. The DOC should allow heli-shuttles for the general public :-)
Well that settles it, I now NEED to hook up my sister in law with someone from New Zealand so I have an excuse to come and check this out as many times as I can.
@@TomWoodwardVideos God only(Iiterally) knows,mate....It's a bloody bureaucratic disgrace....hopefully it's been ridden this year?...I'll be there next month!...Cheers
Yes the track is made for everyone to be able to ride, not just DH racers. The track also doubles as a walking path for multi day hiking through the remote back country.
The video of you guys building the trail was sick!!!
Thanks

Thanks, you might be surprised if you give it a go. Most people should be able to ride it if they take it slowly.
@@TomWoodwardVideos think the steep drop offs would do my head in! Guess just keep looking where you want to go (ie not down steep embankment!)
Seriously one of the best trails I've ever seen
Sweet thanks mate. Check out the video showing the effort that went in to make it.
@@TomWoodwardVideos Already did 😁
Have you guys just built one of the best flow tracks in NZ? Why yes I think you have. Total GC's ! Can't wait to ride this bad boy. Well done.

What a gorgeous trail! Nice long ride.. the build documentary was absolutely amazing! Well done✌
Sweet, thanks.
Amazing trail! Absolutely love the nature there.
Wanted to look at the views but was busy admiring your amazing drainage work. Nice one!
Hahaha, good observation. Those swales are great to pump through. Also the only way of handling the West Coast weather
Mate you have some incredible film-making chops. Makes me homesick!!!
Time to come back! 😂
There’s some cool stuff here if you know where to look
Fantastic, thanks for all your labours +sharing t ride. Can’t wait.

Well done guys 👍🏻.

Looks awesome. My legs are hurting just thinking of riding back up it again.
I saw some sigs of e-mtb not allowed, but, hypothetically, if I don't see the signs, and go with an e-mtb, what could happen? =D

cant they regulate the days the walkers are allowed?
Just get rid of them full stop would be better.

It is part of the 10th great walk in New Zealand..... we just made it fun to ride aswell.
Yep that’s it
How hard are the climbs?
800 vertical metre climb, max 10° gradient. Easy track surface.
It’s long but easy.
Shouldn't be there, it's not a zoo up there 29 men died and are still in there, disgusting
Shut up. The families are stoked. Read the comments under the other video.
