The Aurora Australis Viewpoint I Wish I'd Found Sooner
The best place in Queenstown to see the Aurora Australis is Aurora Point. It is possibly one of the best spots in the world to see the Southern Lights because of its accessibility and it's far southern latitude of 45 degree south.
At the end of a short road sits a large rock with a pristine view south over the lake. The view is unobstructed by lights and has a large field of view because of its elevated position.

    Im a Dutch backpacker and I stumbled into this lifestyle by accident. I had planned a 9 months backpacking trip through Asia but near the end I decided to add an australian work holiday visa to accomodate my last few months of travel in asia. I started at a dairy farm and ever since then ive started to reevaluate my life. I went to visit a friend in Bali, ended up in a relationship shortly after and discovered Bali as a place to live more so than a tourist destination. When I started to do the math I came to the same conclusion, work in australia, live in indonsia. So, I returned and im on my second year now in australia and im working on organising my life in indonesia while i work on dairy farms. Dairy is no doubt easier than the mining lifestyle, but that doesnt make it ''easy''. Its still very remote, I make long days (10-14 hours a day 5-6 days a week) and the stints are much longer, though its also more doable with the occasional off days unlike mining. Im trying to save up enough money now to live on Bali for 2 years with a KITAS visa. Its been pretty inspiring to see your video. I think the main benefit of this lifestyle is that you can quit at any point and relocate elsewhere. You save money fairly fast so even a months work can get you back home on a plane to your home country.

    • @TomWoodwardVideos

      Yeah, the pandemic would have mucked it up for a lot of people though. I’m king of lucky I got out before that. Also it all relies on cheap and regular flights. That can change with airlines whims.

    • @godver555
      @godver555 6 днів тому

      @TomWoodwardVideos In many ways yes but Australia also opened special covid working visas with easier access so some of my backpacker colleages actually started in australia because of this. Ive heard Bali was extremely quiet during covid which would have been amazing to see, but for the locals who rely on tourism it must have really sucked.

      Yeah the Bendigo project looks good. I've been up there to check it out and saw Sanata Minerals drilling. It's right next to an old ghost town where they were mining gold back in the old days. There's definitely good seams under that ground. The only reason I didn't take the job at Macraes is because it was too much of a drive in from Queenstown. Kind of wish I had taken it now. I’ve heard people mention Bali but never felt like looking into it, now I’m considering traveling there. You have a ways of putting things together. It’s entertaining.

    Great video, I love the contrast of the exhausting mundane imprisonment of the mines with the refreshing freedom of travel and beauty of nature. What was the typical work schedule like, one week on one week off or two weeks on and two weeks off? Here in Texas lots of guys work in the oilfields and off shore rigs and do two weeks on two weeks off. Keep up the great work and living life to the fullest, Cheers!

      Thanks 🤙 It was closer to 2 weeks on 2 weeks off but wasn’t fixed. I told them when I was available so I took more time off.
