you should really use a puller on it as you can destroy the rubber isolator continually smacking it with a hammer

Does the rear end have to be off the ground for this, if so does the truck need to be in park or neutral

I looked at the procedure to replace the pinion seal for a 2007 Silverado 1500 classic and one of the steps is to remove the rear brake drums after raising the truck. Do you know why they would have me do this before removing the axle shaft?

Only if your removing the axles

Put in neutral mark drive shaft to pinion flange remove drive shaft turn the flange right to left very little bit just to feel how it feels between each stop when starts to get resistance plus feel for up and down play remove the flange nut remove flange remove seal instal seal install flange with grease on seal and flange surface snug up nut feel the flange turn the to left

Feel the flange right to left and tighten the nut up more until it feels just a little bit tighter than when you removed the nut between the resistance turn tight to left not even about 1/8 of a turn right to left gotta get the feel

Is there a seal on the back of the yoke? In replacing my yoke (broken cap bolts) and wasn't sure if the piece that looks like a seal on the yoke is a seal or if that is what I've heard it's the crush sleeve. Thanks

There’s a dust seal on the yoke and a seal on the differential

Ok, that makes sense. So if the dust seal on the yoke looks worn is that something that can or should be replaced before installing?
I only ask because I don't want to remove the yoke once I get it on This has been a two week process for me, and I'm ready for it to be fixed.

@@rpsoren pretty sure if you get one from the dealer it should come with it aftermarket ones might not

I had to pull one from a salvage yard as LITERALLY no auto store or online auto parts have them. Has to come directly from manufacturer, which the best I've found is end of May!!!! Can't be waiting that long. Ended up finding and pulling one from an '02 for my '03, but the dust seal on the back of the yoke itself looks a little cracked and missing parts of the rubber. So I just washed to make sure if it's important that I get it replaced before I install the yoke.
Thanks for all your help by the way, this has been quite the experience for me and I appreciate all the info I get from UA-cam and ask those who share knowledge like yourself.
