    I just took my 2023 Model 3 RWD on an over 10,000 mile road trip over 6 weeks.... LA to Branson to Chicago to Branson to Ft Lauderdale to NY to LA... NO ISSUES at all. And @gjeebs is so right.. you meet the same people at superchargers city after city and get to know the cities!

    Agreed. Range does not matter on road trips. Your taking the trip to enjoy the drive, not get there as fast as possible. If that was the case you'd buy a plane ticket. Again, its a road trip and your doing thus for a fun memory or experience...enjoy the drive and relax. Autopilot or fsd and its a who new driving experience. Sit back and enjoy.

      Plane ticket is not all it’s cracked up to be.. this week it took 30 hours to fly into Chicago from Tampa after 7 delays and a cancelled flight on United
      Returning it took 9 hours after 2 delays ….and I thought I was saving time by flying instead of taking my Tesla on a road trip😳

      @@bridge1872 and United breaks guitars. Having said that, most if not all the domestic airlines in the US seem to have their detractors. I would always favor flying SWA, and never United or AA. Others would not consider SWA. Pretty much, it boils down to our personal experiences and those of our friends and families. Regardless, I'm not going to worry about air fare again, I hope, as I hope to do all my travel in the future in my model Y.

      That's what I always tell people - I never finish my meal or snack before it's done charging. I honestly think the oil companies pay people to troll every article or video on EVs, which is why so many people are scared to get an EV.

    I noticed the Autopilot got significantly better on a road trip to OKC this week. Normally on that stretch I have to intervene 2-3 times based on how hilly it is going north, but there and back I had zero disengages. Worked like a dream in both sunny conditions and at night. It had to have been in a recent update that it was adjusted.
    Also, nice Speedy Pro. Great watch.

    I owned a 2019 3 SR+ for 4.5 years and going from that to the Model Y LR AWD, on ~370 mile road trips the Y makes the trips 1-2 hours shorter than it was in the SR+. Did it in 7 hours with normal stops for food and bathroom breaks including charging which is very close to what it was in the gas car.
    Love those Ford people hahaha they try so hard

    I love your videos and this drive brings back a lot of memories. I lived in Phoenix for 20 years and have made that I40 drive many times on my way to Chicago. I have had my model y long range for about 6 weeks now and have over 3500 miles. It’s a great road trip car! They just need to work on some of the details like ride quality, auto wipers, auto high beams, cameras that don’t say they are blocked because it’s dark outside, but between the price, the performance, the range, the tax credit and the supercharger network it’s the most logical choice for an electric car… at least in my opinion 😊

    We’re Snowbirds from the Philly area and drive to Venice Beach Florida for the winter, approximately 1,600 miles. This is our first long distance drive in our Tesla M3LR and we really enjoyed it. We can no longer do it in 2 days like before, but understanding that in advance we made reservations at three hotels on the way down and an additional hotel (Savannah Ga) for a beautiful visit. The upside, all that you mentioned, including the FSD Supervised. On highways it was incredibly, on city streets great, but not perfect.
    The extra hotels added costs and time to get to both locations, but it’s well worth it, especially when you understand EV Reality. Love my Tesla, I’m an early adopter, love new technology and have done enough research to truly understand that “forced” EV adaptation is STUPID, and counterproductive.
    I’m a new Subscriber, looking forward to your videos. Thanks so

    Love your videos, a lot of humor. I’ve had a Tesla Model Y LR for about a year now. I’ve never taken a roadtrip, but I do 100 mi roundtrips fairly frequently. I think back on many of my previous roadtrips, and I wonder how I would feel about being off the beaten path. Places like Death Valley, feeling like I could go way off the Interstate, without worrying about overnight charging somewhere in the middle of nowhere…

    Last September, I drove my Model Y from Oklahoma to Montana and back over four days. The vehicle ran great, and cost me approximately $360 in supercharging. Negatives, however, were the lack of supercharging stations in the northwest, and the poor location of some stations, especially when arriving late at night.

    Made the trip from Mesa to Missouri last month in my Model 3LR. You got the bathroom at Burger King at Holbrook right on! The limitations of where you can charge are a negative though. Holbrook is a perfect example. I would have preferred to take a southern route through NM (Las Cruces, Rowell, Clovis) to avoid I-40. You can't do it. There are no superchargers. Love your humor though, the semi-functional lock on the stall was right on!

    When my Xmas flight was cancelled and I drove overnight in single digit temps with snow tires from Colorado to Tennessee, the range was enough. Sure when weather and other factors are great 330 is more than enough. However, with less than ideal 400 is needed or maybe a more true 330 would be good.

    Range Anxiety is for the ignorant.
    I have a friend who drives a Bolt from Portland, Oregon to L.A. about every 6-weeks with no issues. Most people don't travel very far from home...they fly and rent. Even so ...distance traveling in an EV is pretty easy and getting easier by the day. Another thing is... Why pay for expensive range when most will never really use it. And range will get better and cheaper cuz we are just at the beginning of this new transportation regime.
    But... I'm someone who can drive for very long distances. My last big trip was from Portland, Oregon to Atlanta, Texas with a 4-hour stop near Green River, Utah. I once drove from Ensenada to Lund, BC, Canada with a stop in Portland to shower and do some laundry.
    Tube videos like this will hasten EV adoption...Thanks!

    We just got back from a road trip here in the south west. Really hot but a good trip. I did notice some loss of range in my Model Y. I’ve had it almost 3 years. The superchargers are pretty far apart out here and I got down really low a few times. Also we did have two episodes of phantom braking on the interstate. The only thing I could figure out was there were scattered clouds causing shadows on the highway. Scary to have your car slam on the brakes for no reason.

      Currently looking to by a model y but I drive a 2018 accord until then. I’ve had phantom breaking on my accord about 6-8 times while owning it for 4 years. I’d agree some were probably caused by shadows while others were caused by other vehicles driving close to me on interstates. Not that slamming on the brakes were actually needed.

    Great travel vlog! Looking forward to when most hotels have level-2 chargers. Ideally they’d be able to have enough for any EV that stays the night but they could also have someone move extension cords around in the middle of the night to stretch their charging infrastructure a bit further.

    • @markhovis8033
      @markhovis8033 11 місяців тому +1

      EV owners should encourage them to charge wholesale electric pricing instead of having other guests subsidize the cost. Then, we could expect hotels to roll out more chargers. We are gonna need them soon!

    • @matthewprather7386
      @matthewprather7386 11 місяців тому +1

      @@markhovis8033 there are several ways to get the EV driving guests to pay for the kWh they use - to setup the logistics.. Hotels could make it a profit center if they want.. Charging an EV off-peak rates might cost $5 to $10… If a hotel didn’t want to get into meters and all that they could just make EV guests pay to park in stalls that have outlets - flat rate. Limit the charger outlet current to match the amount of electricity the fee covers. I believe there are charge point operators they could contract with too.
      But a question they’ll have to answer is whether to provide lodging in an all-inclusive way, or more a la carte, charging customers for just what they use? I rarely eat anything in the “free breakfast” at hotels because it’s usually sugary garbage, but I don’t have a choice to opt out, so I subsidize the folks that tank up at the feed trough… I don’t watch cable TV but I have to pay for that. I don’t use the pool or hot tub… Or the exercise room… Etc. Is the EV charging outlet an amenity? Or a service?

    I agree, range does not matter. I have a 1200 mile round trip to see my parents and did this trip many times in ICE cars in the past 20 years. One of those could theoretically have done 500 miles on one tank but I still took breaks. I have an EV now and charging stops are easy. Last trip I drove through the night and slept in the boot of my airconditioned car while it was charging.

    For road tripping in a Tesla, there are still several places in the country that need better infrastructure still. I drove my Tesla Model Y LR from Alabama to Colorado but opted to take I-40 across since there was a blizzard in Kansas. I didn't do much research ahead of time because I've never had a problem before. I found it strange that the Tesla navigation really wanted me to go up to Tulsa then to OKC. The issue was there was a 195 mile stretch of I-40 (between Ft Smith and OKC) without any chargers. I've made that gap before, but the additional issue was a 30-40 mph head wind - which severely impacted my range. Well, I made it to OKC by driving 15mph under the speed limit for most of the trip - with only 2% to spare. Honestly the only time I was truly nervous about making it to the next charger. Tesla is adding a charger at the mid-point - which will make I-40 a viable route soon. I think this will be mostly worked out in the next few years. I've taken the same trip via I-20 and I-70 respectively without any problems - so I was surprised to see such a gap still on the Interstate system. I've also noticed charging is a bit sparse in the northern Plains.

    I've done that trip so many times. That burger king in Holbrook is nasty. So happy they opened that 250 KW in Albuquerque. Just not enough chargers at the Chili's. You mentioned the BBQ at the E. Amarillo SC. Did you try it? It's very good if not. Nothing beats hotel charging on a road trip though.

    The 150 mph speed of the tip of the turbine blades sounds reasonable.
    About recyclability of the blades, the challenge is fiberglass, no matter it’s application. I understand recyclability of fiberglass is improving, so hopefully we won’t have so many 50 year old boat hulls sitting abandoned in junk yards. 😜

    Gjeebs, regarding your comment on Energy and Wind, here is a quick rundown from the US EIA database. "Combined wind and solar share of total generation increased from 12% in 2021 to 14% in 2022. Hydropower generation remained unchanged, at 6%. Nuclear is 19%. Texas accounted for 26% of total U.S. wind generation last year.
