    That was very nostalgic for me. My youngest daughter was a champion dancer for many years. I took her all over the state for competitions until she suffered a major injury. I always loved watching the dancers. My Scottish heritage certainly was strong.😊

    • @allisonforfornsed
      @allisonforfornsed 6 років тому +1

      Well ladies didn't do highland dancing anyway. not traditionally--- women doing it is a more recent invention. It was originally a military dance only for men. Not only that but a woman would not traditionally have worn a short skirt either.

    • @glasgowbrian1469
      @glasgowbrian1469 5 років тому +1

      @@allisonforfornsed I remember attending a ladies traditional highland dance workshop. I agree - it was gentler steps and seemed to have an influence from country dancing or maybe old time step dancing. It's a vague memory, but the ladies did have a style of their own. It's evolved over many years.

      @@allisonforfornsed We wore kilts. 3" above the ground when kneeling. All the traditional dances and this was 50+ years ago now. In fact one of the dancers at our competitions ended up moving to Scotland and dancing professionally, Allen his name was. The best dancers are the men but that is musculature speaking, they can simply leap the highest which is by Allen and Mark won all the championships in my country for years.

    • @allisonforfornsed
      @allisonforfornsed 2 роки тому

      @@musicandbooklover-p2o 50 years ago is NOT the time I am referring to. Traditional usually refers to anything that took place between the 1700's to about 1850. Many countries model their folk dance and folk dress to fit the styles of dance and dress during that era. In the case of Highland Dancing, you can go and look it up--- you will find that is well known that Highland dancing was not originally done by women. And of course, a women would never have worn a skirt that short, let alone a kilt, not back then anyway.
