@laclippersfan Hey there. This piece was composed by Mark Cromer (me) while working at Firaxis Games as an audio guy. I'm thrilled to find people enjoying it here! Thanks!
Brother, this piece of music is one of my favorites! I share this with so many people, swearing by it as the best thing to listen to as you get ready for the day in the morning! Is there any way you can tell us more about the piece? Its origin? The language used by the vocalist? Is it laocean? Anything you have regarding the influence and origin of this wonderful piece of music you've created would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for making something that has in my opinion made the unbearable suffering that encompasses the majority of existence just a little brighter, and a little more bearable!
100%! I was just telling a friend, while playing this full blast inside his 7/11, full blast on my wonderboom, "I almost don't want to know what they're actually saying because it can be about whatever you want it to be about!" And he said ".....W H A T ??? I CANT HEAR YOU!!! Seriously dude, I'm trying to run a business here, turn that down...."
To me, the best time to be alive in the game was when you have discovered optics, so that you could build swift caravels (?) and explore the wide seas, find small islets to settle down on and again discover a totally new world. It then was like starting anew, but under easier conditions.
@@julesf.meloborges811 It may have been half of humanity (if not most), but there wasn't as much progress as there was in the last 2000 years. So Ancient era lasted a short time because you could quickly progress through it.

This could be one of my favourite game soundtracks of all time, mostly due to how perfectly in juxtaposed with the gameplay. Even though you don't really 'acknowledge' the music while playing, due to being engrossed in the strategy, you can really appreciate it when acknowledging that it has sunk deep into your consciousness without even knowing it!
What an honor to hear from you. Friend: Civ 4 awoken a passion for classical music that I never knew I had, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Out of all the music I listen to, past and pop, many of my top listened-to tracks in iTunes are from the Civ 4 sound track. This song in particular has been the background music for thousands of hours of productivity and creativity.. Thank you, Cromerzone. Your music and work on Civ 4 most certainly altered the trajectory of my life and businesses.
Ancient era is the best in my opinion. I think the game becomes too stressy as you get more power, and boring as more borders start appearing etc.. Ancient is best, where barbarians are everywhere, tribal villages, map covered in forest.
Civ is about exploration and thats my favorite part, exploring the vast areas of the random generated continent or across the ocean where you can find a whole new world

I've been looking forever for this song. I remember playing this game all the time as a kid, and whenever this song came up I'd always stop and just listen. It's so beautiful. Definitely my favorite off the soundtrack. Side note, anyone know where I can download a version of this?
I do. With each purchase of civilization you can access the music in each in the game files. Im currently taking a shit at work im pretty sure it goes something like this Program 86 files>steam>steamapps>civilization IV>sounds>music>select era
I just received a text message while listening to this; turns out, the iPhone text sound "Note" is the exact tonic of this tune. I'm sure that signifies something tremendously profound.
Here is the thing, I randomly blasted that song in my house and started dancing half naked while trying to sing the lyrics with a wooden stick in my right hand... Does that say anything about my mental health?

Minds are not fortresses. It is a piece of music, no more no less. One person's experiences and feelings are no less valid or interesting than anybody elses. To think that the sum total of human expression and thought worth having comes only from Europe, is folly. I would note, however, the music is an original piece of music composed by, and sung by Americans in the United States, if one wants to split hairs, it is American music. ;^)
@MrHeatmaster78 Nothing else like them are certainly not found in the rest of the soundtrack, and considering how fast this part of the game goes by I certainly miss them. Not a problem at all in regards to posting them. :)
Again, this isn't "an attack". It is a piece of music. An idea if you will. Just as in the game, one benefits from the exchange of ideas, so does a mind. Having some irrational prejudice about what types of instruments or structure of music constitute good or bad is silly, IMO.

It is an atrocity that we can't find the source of at least the insnpiration for the song, if not the performer. Although there has to have been a real vocalist. Why doesn't Firaxis give us the name?

Sentries alone cannot resist an attack. The mind must be strong and resistant. It works both ways, sure, but that's a personal choice.
So, just want to get this clear. Are you saying it's bad to have an open mind?
Is the light on?
There's too much in the world to focus on everything. An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded.
No, it isn't. Life, the world, and music, are bigger than you seem to have allowed into your heart, yet. Good luck learning to grow beyond that, it is far more rewarding than you might think, if you try.
Do you feel smart by trivializing it as such?
African beats
It sounds silly when you trivialize it that way, but you and I both know there's more to music than instruments and structure.
I'm saying it's bad to be open to everything, and most people aren't, even if they think they are. Let yourself develop standards, at least.
