You should make the stove cover open to the right. Add a support off the stove wall and now you have a usable counter top while cooking.

I’ve watched dozens of videos on van builds and this one seems to have all the comforts of home. I think so many people forego things they want for a van, but this shows that you don’t have to. Love this!
I have a stove cover as well which is great when I am not using the stove. When my late wife was with me, before she passed away, she would do all of her stove top cooking outdoors, if the weather was accommodating, on my Coleman propane stove. When the indoor stove cover is up, there is no counter space just like yours. I have a double basin sink. I have a cutting board that covers one of the basins and affords me some prep area. When weather is not cooperating, that prep area is priceless. For baking, I use a dutch oven outdoors with charcoal when the weather is cooperating. When the weather is bad, I use the propane oven that is part of the stove. I was surprised at how similar our kitchen arrangements are. The thing I don't have is the added butcher block mounted off to the side of the stove because that is a couch. That has to be great!! A little Frank training would be helpful for you when you are using it. Thank you for the tour. Enjoy your home-a-van!
To accomadate Allie's wish for an accessible spice rack while cooking Trent could make the counter top covering the burner into a removable cover that can be placed to the right. Another option would be to place the hinge for the cover on the right side, if there is enough space to flip the cover directly over to the right. That would require finishing the bottom side of the counter. If neither one of those options with the counter is workable another idea is to make a removable spice rack that you could take out of the wall and attach to the back of the counter after it's lifted up or hang it on the wall to the right. Over all the layout is very well done and the hardware used give it a nice touch. I love the handy little fresh water spigot. Nicely done Trent and Allie.
I agree with having the shower & nature's head. It cuts down on your kitchen space but worth it!

Hinge your counter block to the right side instead of to the rear, then it won't block the spice rack. Ideally be able use the "bottom" of the counter as a food prep surface also when it's flipped open. (With proper support). Awesome job guys, thanks for the good ideas. 🙂

Awesome video, again, you all! I lived in vans 40 years ago and I am dreaming of a return to the lifestyle. Keep the videos coming so my inspiration stays strong!
We just bought a 2014 Winnebago Trend which is on a 3500 extended ProMaster. I love driving it! But, it is hard to get into the cab, it’s quite a step up. We are probably getting Sumo springs on it, and solar panels. It came with a 2009 Fortwo Smart Car, which we love! But I personally, think it needs better shocks (or struts, whatever) It will be a part time home for us, and we have learned so much from watching you guys travel around. We thought about getting just the ProMaster Van, and building it pretty much the same set up as you. But we really liked the idea of being able to sleep 6 because of the lift, so we can take our grandkids with us. Love your van! Take care! Have fun on your journey south!

I discovered so many van life channels after watching janelles initial video. I’m obsessed with your daily vlogs and watch them at 8am while I’m getting ready every other morning (on the other days I watch Jordan and kaylees 😂). Out of all the channels, you guys keep me interested in every minute till the end of even your 20+ min videos and if anything I double watch them and want more! One thought I had watching this, I love how your counter top covers the stove and then lifts up out of the way. Maybe if the wood was attached to a rail system that could slide over to right out of the way then you wouldn't need an extra piece of wood to extend the counter top and your spice rack stays open and available.

I have a suggestion for your flip up butcher block. How about hinging it on the right side of the stove/oven. This way when you flip it open, it goes in place of that extra piece that you are putting in there to use for cutting up food. It will also leave your spice rack completely open. 😉
That is a great DIY van layout and so thoughtfully designed to meet your needs! And then you get to take it on an extended international adventure for product testing!
I'm sure there's probably some product refinement by now to improve the full time aspect of the build. Love the lift/motorcycle/rack!
