Bro Primus is a whole world. Keep it up. Not for everyone, but I love how we can all appreciate good music like this.
All three of these guys are next level musicians. No other band sounds like Primus. They always have some quirky diminished tones or some funky wickedness going on. You have to love their level of experimentation tempered with talent and good taste.
Primus is my favorite band and I love that you react to them. I am always checking for your Primus videos. Please don’t stop.

Underrated Primus Song. You never see this one on people's lists, but I love it.
Sooooo glad you did this song from Primus! Epic live performance!!!!
Geddie Lee, Tony Levin, John Mgyuen, Les Claypool, Geezer Butler...theyre all in that conversation
And Mohini Dey can be thrown in there.
John Paul Jones.
And Jack Bruce and John Entwistle.
bootsy larry graham stanley clarke...carole kaye for pure volume and hooks...sry forgot to put in chris squire
@@MrLedotson yes them..was just texting with a guy about bruce . the guy lives in the same hometown as jack and couldnt understand his lack of renown
Holy crap, I've never seen the live version of this song, so good. The way they always reel people into the music and in this one they get the claps going, it adds a little touch that makes the song extra special. Amazing performers. I get this vision that even after these guys are no longer with us, they will be performing massive shows in the afterlife, their sound waking up the deepest of sleeping spirits to add their handclaps to the percussion.
Primus is great!
May I suggest: Primus - John the Fisherman live at Heineken Opener Festival
Please go down this unique rabbit hole of Primus... what you'll see and hear Les do with a bass guitar is wild.✌️
If this band sounds familiar, they should. You heard them in every episode of South Park, ever.
There's a youtube of 'toys go winding down' from some tv show, on which Les' playing is absolutely mesmerising
The 1991 VPRO radio one)
This was newer Primus in 2014. The entire Green Naugahyde album is 🔥. Lee Van Cleef is funky as funk, check out that song.
This is the best Primus track ever for me. I remember seeing your reactions to Primus in the past, and wishing you'd review this one :)
I saw them in concert back in the late 80's when they opened for RUSH.
Roll the bones tour.
Such a great tour! I loved that.
Early 90's
@@ProffAndyI did concerts. I was I’m here for the music not for your hand on my…. I never made a scene but the guys I was with saw that? I’m oh no. I’m perfectly capable of defending myself? Oh no.
I was on the third row for that show and it was incredible! Made me a Primus and Claypool fan for life!
Les Claypool is considered one of the greatest bass players of all time, for sure. People will probably disagree with where he stands among bassists like Victor Wooten, John Paul Jones, Bootsy Collins, Jaco Pastorius, Larry Graham, Cliff Burton, Charles Mingus, Geezer Butler, Lemmy Kilmister, Geddy Lee, Tony Levin, Paul McCartney, etc. As for Primus... well, great bands are either destined to top the music charts frequently OR inspire the next generations of musicians; Primus fits the latter category, much like Frank Zappa and George Clinton did.
Cliiiiiff.....ya man.
You didn't mention Chris Squire of YES. How couldn't you ;)
@@splitimage137. I didn't mention Trevor Dunn either, and he's definitely one of my favorites.
Definitely check out My Name is Mud & their cover of Devil Went Down to Georgia (if you haven't already). BTW that bass instrument is called the Whamola.
Actually that's not the Whamola. It's just an electric upright bass. The Whamola has a single string and has the "tuning" (for a lack of a better or correct term) lever on the side.
@justin is 99% correct. Les is playing an upright, 4-string (maybe 5-string?) fretless bass in this performance. Check out Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade (one of his side projects)"Whamola" - the video with 1.3 million views. You'll see It has a single string which is manipulated via a pulley-and-lever system at the top (not side). POLO - if you see this comment, take it as a serious request for a reaction!
Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains..... You will love it!!
i been tryna get him to do elephant ghost.. but i dont think he has the stones....hed have to put on his big boy pants and break out the thesaurus for some new superlatives (not sure if this tack will work but ...maybe......hes just scurred)
This!! He needs to look up the live improv jam
@@KalebMorrow30 dont sleep on the Lennon Claypool Delirium (or claypool lennon) Live....SOUTHBOUND PACHYDERM
@chrisross-fd3fo that too. He's done some much good shit
@@chrisross-fd3fo he needs to look up whamola as well!
I can't believe you reviewed this song. Green naugahyde is a masterpiece.🫡🎸
Amazing reaction as always...for some reason, i have heard this song dozens and dozens and dozens of times, but this is 1st time i kinda keyed in on the lyrics....thats deep man, matched the mood of the song completely
ahhhahaha! PRIMUS!! Classic bonfire car smashing band!! Back in the dayzzz
The “thing” you mentioned not recognizing was, in fact, an electric stand-up bass.
2011, I was hitting the jam band scene. Didn’t make it to Bonaroo, but Primus is a great example of the experimentation that those bands produce.
The thing that is so amazing is that you can have 10’s of thousands of highly diverse people for days and everybody get along so well. No fights, maybe a naked guy running around through the crowd. I really love those events and artists. 🖖🏼
Wow I’m glad you did that one, I haven’t heard theses guys in a minute and wow this one was fantastic!
BTW you MUST see 'Mr Krinkle' , Les on double (?) Bass. Another top Primus tune
He already reacted to the song (and video).
My favorite track from 2011 Bonnaroo ... Larry's guitar work is mesmerizing ... Claypool playing whole notes on an electric standing bass ... lol.
American Life!
John Paul Jones , Geezer Butler , Jack Bruce , John Entwistle , Geddy Lee , Larry Graham , Bill "The Buddha" Dickens , Les Claypool , Steve Harris , Cliff Williams , Stu Hamm are some of the best of the best across the spectrum
Another one who didn't mention Chris Squire of YES. How couldn't you ;)
LOVE THIS.
Never forget Larry Lalonde and his masterful weird guitarwork in the Primus songs
Noticed the music was so good the crowd just shut up and listened.
I did see Claypool as part of Oysterhead, the supergroup with Trey Anastasio (Phish) and Stewart Copeland (The Police). Primus did the theme music for South Park.
To see them live is incredible. Claypool is the best bassist in the world, and all while singing difficultly timed lyrics. Simply put..he's an alien.
A great band. I like how you are open to new (to you) and cutting edge music.
fyi...Primus, Puscifer, and A Perfect Circle are doing a tour together within the next few weeks. They're calling it Sesanta...a celebration of Maynard's 60th birthday. You need to go!!!
Metallica turned him down because he was too good. When they lost their bassist Cliff. Instead they got Newsted from Flotsam.
Not really true, he is not better than Cliff so ur comment does not make a lot of sense. He was turned down because he did not fit. They told him to start his own band as his style is unique.
In the Primus biography, Les specifically states what the other reply says here. But they were all hanging out together in the Bay Area in early 80s. Kirk was Les' good friend in class and they went to a lot of concerts together with Cliff and Billy Gould from FNM among others.
@@jmoney6900sorry he's way better than cliff.
Check out one of the most incredible bassists of all time in the late Jaco Pastorius. Any Weather Report tune with Jaco is a cool one to watch live. Jaco was also a great drummer and pianist. Sad ending to his life, but he was a blessing on earth.
He was on the stage I was working just days before all that happened. Still not even sure how he got to where he was. He was in really bad shape though. Everyone has their demons. He didn't deserve what happened, but I can see how it did. Wasn't very easy to communicate with him at that time. I did get to see him play one last time. That part was still amazing. Worked his tail off to do what he was able to do. Once in a life time great, he was. I hope he found the peace he was searching for.
Does anyone remember if Polo reacted to Green Jelly- Three Little Pigs? If not that would be a good one for him
Funny funny video, too.
I'm surprised and also not surprised that you like Primus to be honest. To me it seems that people love or hate them. Geddy Lee has a show that just came out called Geddy Lee Asks: Are Bass Players Human Too? in which Les is his FIRST guest on the first episode. I think you'd love seeing that (won't give any spoilers).
Man I love that you appreciate this music!!! It's sure not for everyone but anyone who gives it a chance either falls in love with it or thinks us that love it have a screw loose!! Welcome to Les' Loose Screws!
The thing about Primus is every song has a unique sound from each other, and the band as a whole is completely unique from any other band. Im a My Name is Mud and Southbound Pachyderm girl myself.
Jaco Pastorius' bass work on Joni Mitchell's Coyote is my favorite bass performance I've heard.
That’s a good one. Though I like his solo stuff a lot
Best concert ive ever been to was Primus and Tool. It was a big surprise because i knew i was there for Tool but when it was time for the opener they started playing the "dun dun dun dun" of Blue Collar Tweekers before they walked out and I was so excited.
Primus is very base heavy as they should be since they have one of the best nase players ever, Les Claypool.
I loved this album personally.
That is an electric upright bass fed though a processor then to his amp the guitar reminds me of syd Barrett check out Primus Over the falls. Also Les Claypool has a few other bands check out Duo De Twang
They're on tour. Do yourself a favor and see them live.
I do have to say you have the right mindset to enjoy a very unique band and it's amazing how opened minded to their music!!! I would love to see you tackle Claypool/Lennon because it's a great marriage of music so hopefully we see that very soon!!!😊❤
So the bass player question.Primus is my favorite band, Victor Wooten probably has the most raw talent but Jaco Pastorius is the G.O.A.T of bass.
Jaco popularized the fretless bass and use of harmonics on bass in the 70s. He was extremely fast Jazz player that could stop on a dime. Wooten, Claypool, Flea and countless others have credited Jaco with being an inspiration, which was on the documentary created by Metalica's bass player Robert Trujillo.
I highly recommend listening to Portrait of Tracy, Donna Lee (cover), Teen Town or Havona.
There are tons of amazing stories about him, good and bad. Definitely a character to look into.
For a mind meld, Charlie Hunter playing Rust Belt incorporates bass line strings and runs on his custom fretted guitar. Crazy good.
Groundhogs Day live at Bonnarooo is just amazing. The entire band is just " cooking" as my Dad would say.
You have to do “Sinister Minister” off _Flight of the Cosmic Hippo_ by Bela Fleck & the Flecktones. Victor’s bassline in that is incredible. It’s like he’s playing 4 basses at once. He plays different lines with each finger.
I’ve seen him play it live multiple times, and I still can’t believe one guy gets all that out of a single bass.
Took my sons or they took me to see Primus at the Fox in Atlanta. What a fun concert.
he was a big influence of mine as a kid
Jane's Addiction
I think he’d love Been Caught Stealin’.
Congratulations Polo for the Primus choice. I would like you to take into consideration the video that drives me crazy of the live Claypul and Buckethead I don't know if you've ever seen it
My top 5 are: John Entwhistle, Geddy Lee, Justin Chancellor, Chris Squire, and Les Claypool.
YEAH! Another one who mentioned here Chris Squire of YES!
Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade - "Pigs" Live; 5/24/23 Denver, CO
Les has played a lot of Pink Floyd covers over the years, and they pull it off as a 3 piece, really 👍
I'm almost 60... I listen to you everyday!! I have anxiety issues and music is my go to for relief... You should know how much you have helped me the last few months. Your voice is so soothing and we listen to Into the Mystic together on the daily. Keep doing what you're doing!! You have great taste in Music and this old White woman appreciates you!!
Les is definitely one of the best in rock. My pick for tops in rock are John Entwistle of The Who and Chris Squire of Yes. If you REALLY want your mind blown, check out Stanley Clarke. He's a jazz player, and tops in my book.
I second the Stanley Clarke sug. Smooooooth.
FINALLY - someone here who mentioned Chris Squire of YES. Bravo!
Seeing Primus in April. Actually, it will be Maynard Kenan's 60's Birthday bash, Setanta, with Perfect Circle, Pucifer, AND Primus! I can hardly wait!
He is a beast on the bass.
Ck his cover of pink Floyd pigs. Awesome!
I’m just the right amount of stoned for this song to be epic!
It's always at its best when you're high.
Saw them in 2020 opening for Slayer. Still fantastic.
Pride of the East Bay
you should do Primus my name is mud one of there best
He's done it.
Les designed that bass hes playing.
I first saw Primus in 1989 at a small night club a week before their grand opening in Los Gatos, CA. I was there to watch my friend’s band, Fungo Mungo, opening for them. Primus played pornographic cartoons in the background while they played. Pretty wild. Such a unique sound. I recognized their sound instantly when they did the Southpark theme.
I will say, there's video of Les and Victor jamming and talking. You should watch Billy Shennon, amazing bassist, played with Steve Vai
I still can’t believe you haven’t reacted to John The Fisherman. You are MISSING OUT!
They jam a LOT live, this concert has at least 3 more high quality videos, plus that Green Naugahyde album is amazing.. Try Last Salmon Man or Tragedy's a comin' off that album they are BANGERS!!! jilly is just a vibe song pretty much
Clicked like. Then realized….. if there was a love button that would be best. Great video Polo! ❤ as always!
Every time you post a Primus reaction, I'm going to request Nature Boy live from Woodstock 94. Come on brother, you will not be disappointed!!!
Two suggestions about great bass players : Magma - de Futura (bass : Jannick Top), Living Colour - Wall (bass : Doug Wimbish). For these two songs, both the studio and live versions are phenomenal.
Oooh ya....Wimbish. Good call. Those guys were bitchin. My buddy smoked Cult of Personality in a cover band in the early 90's. Good times.
@@joseywailer7624 With Doug there's way more than Living Colour : many Sugarhill Records as a studio musician, Tack>>Head (with the other Sugarhill Records musicians Keith LeBlanc and Skip Mc Donald, plus Bernard Fowler), a lot of On-U Sound productions with Adrian Sherwood, some Bomb The Bass songs, Jungle Funk and his own solo projects.
Les Claypool puts flair into bass playing!
Les Claypool is my favorite bassist and musician ! Check out some Claypool Lennon Delirium and Les Claypool Frog Brigade,
When we lived in the lower 48 biggest regret is not seeing them live when they came through on tours. Was always day late or a dollar short. Love Primus, seen numerous other bands live still on my bucket lust of shows to see. Dont get many shows up here in Alaska.
Keep up the great reactions im here for it. Other band never got to see live that cant now would be Rush....
I LOVE PRIMUS!!!!!! ❤ GREAT CHOICE!
Soo Great ❤💯🤘
Fuck yeah bro🤘🔥
Primus is the kind of band that either you get or you don't get them. They are pretty far out there, if you know what I mean. First time I heard them back around 1990 or so, I immediately fell in love.
Les Claypool, as a bassist, I believe, is up there with Flea from The Red Hot Chili Peppers. That's saying something there.
I think he and Victor are the best of the best.
This is probably my favorite primus performance. The guitar at the very end always gives me chills and I'm glad you enjoyed it as well! Their deep cuts are the best....like Del Davis's tree farm!
The closest I have heard to king crimson they fucking rock!!!!
Love this tune btw I just got a Primus hat.
Another great song in this vein: Flaming Lips - There Should Be Unicorns
Watch the radio 90s recording of primus tommy the cat, on youtube. they were in their 20s and so talented from the beginning.
damn. deep cut!
saw Primus ~95. they opened w Pudding Time, and went into "Love Rollercoaster" during the solos. one of my fave concerts ever.
Awesome!! More Pimus please. 😊
Mike Watt, Flea, and Les Claypool....the besst alternative rock bassists of the late 80's!
Wynonnas big brown beaver #3
Jon the fisherman #2
Southbound pachyderm #1
Honorable mentions - Jerry was a race car driver, Mr. Krinkle, damn blue collar tweakers, my name is mudd, the list goes on. . .
Upright bass.
When ut comes to Bass players there is
Geezer Butler - Black Sabbath
Geddy Lee - Rush
Steve Harris - Iron Maiden
Les Claypool - Primus
Flea is an awesome bass player too. So is Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. My favorite is Justin Chancellor of Tool
Seen them with buckethead in Portland 99’
Saw them twice- once at Lalapalooza and later opening for Rush. Geddy joined them for a song. Two of the best bass players on stage together!
Les is the Jimi Hendrix of bass IMHO, but like you said, it's subjective.
Primus - Year of the Parrot (best table top beat ever)
I know it'll never make it to this channel...but in your own time, give it a whirly bird
Primus will be on a US tour July/ Aug 2024 w/ Coheed & Cambria opening... I promise u that Primus live is something to be experienced 🤘🤘🔥🔥
Les is the reason I started playing bass when I was a kid. I was obsessed with the sounds he was able to get out of the bass.
If you love this sound you need to hear King Crimson - Thela Hun Ginjeet from 1981, a full 30 years before this Primus number. Also recommend Elephant Talk from the same album (Discipline). They are both on UA-cam.
New subscriber here, after seeing you react to Simon and Garfunkel (my favorite musicians when I was in high school and they hadn't broken up yet) and the one and only Janis.
Will be working my way through some of your reactions and suggesting "if you like this" companion pieces.
