The guitarist “Ler” said he found all the wrong notes and stuff that didn’t fit, and that’s all he played on this track. What guitarist would do that and have the creative freedom to actually pull it off 👍
He does this with every solo in every song. He'd work out which key the song is in and then play every note out of key. There's an interview about this during the Sailin the Seas of Cheese era
I'm not a musical person by any stretch of the imagination. I don't have an ear for it or understanding ryhtms and why things work but that makes so much sense. I've always felt like Primus shouldn't work but does in the best way possible. It's discordant. Like the opposite of angels in a choir. Just demons banging on instruments and I love it.
For more Primus, I heartily recommend "Tommy the Cat". The offical video is great, and there's also a video of them doing it live at Bonaroo that really shows off his bass chops.
Primus are story tellers. They create characters and worlds where their dysfunctional oddball characters and creations exist and the music matches. Theyre another late 80s early 90s band that came around and started playing outside the conventional standards for music. They all have numerous other side/ other, bands and projects that they work with. Ive been listening to these guys since the beginning and got to see them open for one of their big influences...Rush. I think there were 3 of us in a 20,000 seat arena that had any clue who they were, but by the time they finished their set, they had people out of their chairs and cheering.
On a lot of Primus tunes, "My Name Is Mud" for example, the bass is tuned so slack that it's more of a percussion instrument than a melodic instrument.

You'll never see him without his dip, except maybe Saturday nights around 9:00 p.m. at the Waffle House won't be talked down to or disrespected house-proud City-folk.
Primus wasn't really a band when Les Claypool auditioned for Metallica in 1986, it was known in the Bay Area under the name "Primate". Les was friends with Kirk Hammett since high school and just get auditioned because Kirk invited him. He didn't even know how huge Metallica was at the time.
