      That was an enormously heavy cabinet put above my head! How I missed it I don't know but thankfully I did and lived to tell the tale! I think mum and dad were naive, probably the only place for it in a very small bedroom shared with my brother. My I Spy quilt is coming along nicely and Mila loves the one I made for her during lockdown. xx

    I think the I-spy quilts could equally become story quilts because I’m sure that the imaginations of young children are very able to come up with little stories about the pictures - absolutely beautiful! I love Gilbert and Sullivan operettas - at secondary school I was in The Mikado and The Pirates of Penzance and loved every minute! Sullivan wrote some beautiful piano music, too. How wonderful to take us to the Arts and Crafts house! Thank you Pene. x

    Hi Pene. I've waited all day to watch. I settled down with my epp project. I always called it a scrappy quilt. Now I'm going to call it my eye spy quilt. A perfect name for all the different hexagons. It's been on the go for about 4 years. I can only work on it for short periods as it soon hurts my hands.
    As soon as you mentioned Gilbert and Sullivan Andy's ears pricked up. He loves the operas and often listens in the car. The children grew up knowing lots of words.
    I hope you are both well and enjoying the sunshine.
    Take care. Xx

    I love the sweater...just beautiful!!! Your decision to complete the sleeves was a good one. Your idea for an I Spy quilt is making me want to do the same. Your country is so beautiful and calls to my DNA that I was meant to be there. I have often wondered why the country lanes were so narrow. My first trip to England was with a genealogy tour and we traveled Kent by bus on those lanes which also included brick walls in places. I felt safe being in such a large vehicle, but am sure the locals hate those big vehicles and having to yield and even back up at times. Anyway...loved the whole episode once again.

    A wonderful video Pene. Loved all your various 'makes' and wish I could be as disciplined as you and keep my on going crafts to my craft table....that usually contains things I've dumped there to put away and my current sewing projects are in a row of bags in the living room 😕. It was lovely to hear that your grand children like to name all the items on the quilts. A great end to the video for me too, as I mentioned last week I love Coleton Fishacre, you were right to say it has a beautiful peaceful feeling to it. Just to finish with I have to say that the colour of the dress you were wearing today really suits you. Hope Pete is keeping well.

Looking for a yellow dress, well I've never seen another one since. Pete is doing so well, getting out in the sunshine is smashing. Take care. xx

    Thank you Penny for coming into my home & reminding me of malt & cod liver oil, the thick orange juice which had such a weird taste, did it have iron in it I wonder oh & the rose hip syrup loved that. Smiths crisps yes the blue twirly wrapped salt packets loved those too. Nothing like crunching into a crisp sandwich! Hope to see you again soon. Dianne 🧶

    • @penelopeschinwag
      @penelopeschinwag  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Diane, I wonder if that taste was iron, it was certainly an unusual flavour. Mum always diluted it with. hot water, so a long warm orange juice with brown sugar was enjoyed. Oh that rose hip syrup I'd buy bottles of it if I could. We laughed at the memory of a crisp sandwich, we had them too, yup happy days. xx

    Hello there, What memories you have brought back! I was born in 1951 but I clearly remember the orange juice in the blue topped bottle and the malt extract with Mum winding it around and around on the spoon, delicious. But I have another memory and I can still taste it, when I bit into a cod liver oil capsule...... disgusting. My brother was 4 years younger than I was and it must have been around 1960 when we were first taken to the Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas. My parents had a friend who was usually the comic figure in the performance and we would be amazed at how he could remember all his words and sing them so quickly. I remember them so clearly and so fondly. Thank you for all the memories. Ruth x

      Hi Ruth, yes I remember winding and winding to try and get it all on the spoon, it was delicious. Yuk, cod liver oil, I never had that but can imagine. I am working on a quilt as you go 2 1/2 x 5 brick pattern but was taught a different way to finish the corners. They aren’t mitered as yours are and don’t have a clean look as do yours. Hello Pene. I do love all your crafting, you inspired me to start knitting, which I hadn’t done since I was a little girl. I have knitted several of Louise Crowther’s animals since you showed them. I am now inspired to start knitting socks. I have purchased some WYS owl yarn. I haven’t started them yet. How do you split your yarn so that the stripes match?

      Hello Mary, How lovely you have been inspired to knit animals, what fun. With the stripey yarn I start one sock at the beginning of a colour, even if it means cutting a length of yarn off. Then when I start the second sock I know to start with the same colour, cutting a length of yarn off to make them even. I haven't made owl. -- yet! Thanks for sharing. xx
