Beautiful car, the 80's G body GM cars ( Olds Cutlass, Pontiac Grand Prix, Buick Regal, Chevy Monte Carlo) and the 1987 Nissan Maxima are some of the most beautiful cars in my opinion. I am looking to find one and recondition/restore it, then play 1980's Micheal Jackson songs loud as hell.
Very nice sound and car. I have everything and I mean everything in boxes(383) from ARP fasteners, rotating assembly (10.6:1), AFR 195 heads, All MSD dist and 6AL box, and a Lunati Hydraulic roller 560-565 lift and 243-251 dur. @.050, and a Quick Fuel 850 carb. I don't have a body yet, but I plan on a 68-72 Nova. My last one I built a 71 Nova w/406 turbo 350 and 3500 stall and drove it everyday for over 5 years to work. It would run 11.60's all day long.
G'day mate this is basicaly the same combo I have in my 1968 HK 'GTS Monaro' except I have a DART 400 block bored .30" and a steel 350 crank, Eddy RPM Airgap, SAME CAM, SRP pistons (4.155) with SCAT rods, Eddy 195cc RPM heads (ported to flow 271cfm), Holley 750 DP HP, 3000 stall, stage 3 full manual powerglide and 3.89 gears in the 9" it made 352HP @ the wheels. Great video mate, from "down under"
If you want to look at the craigslist ad for the car let me know. they are asking 1800 down, 320 a month, and 7995 total. the car apparently was previously owned by an older woman who rarely drove it. honestly though this seems like a very common story among older monte carlos.
Thanks for the awesome video! It helped me decide what mufflers to get. I;m getting a 383 built right now, almost same as yours. Same exact Cam, your heads are a litle better flowing. I'm running Darts. Awesome ride dude...awesome. I watch this vid every day...i'm in afghanistan. I'm also from Mich. Have a place up by harrisville. Thanks for the awesome video!
man thats a nice car bro! i got one its a project for me and my dad. were gonna fix up the v6 in it then later on when im older were gonna drop our 350 in it.were gonne rebuild that too.
nice monte i'm not a big fan of dub type wheels because i don't like the tire wall size but i do like the nitrous foose wheel so i like your ride just fine sounds great go's great looks great.
At AFR website dyno with just a tad more lift, less duration and less compression, they made 500HP on the dyno. Yours should be right in there and probably a little more. 4% horsepower gain for every 1 point up in compression in theory also.
You run a ProForm carb.? how has it been for you? I bought a set of there Roller Rockers years ago when the first came out and one of them broke...I haven't used their stuff since...has the quality come up?
What numbers are you putting down? I am almost 50% done with my 383 for my 84 Z28. I am running a scat forged rotating assembly, I-Beam Rods. AFR 195s, Victor Jr. Intake, 3.73s. i still need 10.5:1 forged pistons, demon 750, cam and other misc parts Also I will probably run a 6AL, dyno don headers, and a TKO 600 transmission.
@larscarlo i love mine too i had to daily my car for a few weeks and it was not bad at all except when i would forget to downshift at a light and try to take off in third "doh" surprisingly it would go pretty well but id quickly downshift so not to burn it up lol
Seriously, that was awesome, nice car ,i just picked up a 86 and it needs some new wheels , would you mind sharing the wheel package that your running , rims tires etc. Cheers
Hey, I'm in the process of purchasing a 1978 monte carlo coupe with a V8. What're some things I should ask the owner about and what should I look for when I inspect the car. I plan on hiring a mechanic to take a look at it either way but if I can avoid being suckered into getting it inspected only to find out it got in an accident and they didn't fix it correctly that would be awesome. it'd save me another 150 bucks.
man looks good sounds good, have you ever got the motor dyno whats the compression ratio, have u ever race it... I have a 1984 monte ss im getting a 383 stroker built with the same kind of set up just a different cam.
@larscarlo hi i see you said you had a TCI full manual rev. pattern valve body has it gave you any problems like your trans being running hot or anything and one other question i had is can you pull off in any other gear besides first or will the motor bog down to much to move
wow, that's impressive. I always wanted to put some power in my 84 SS but never go to it. That thing is a beast man. I loved the way mine handled and looked. Cragar SS wheels look realy good on these too but yours looks great, that's just what I had. Have you been down the strip yet?
Like it, sounds great, runs great, looks great, I have a post on here called "S-10 ride along" cam specs are close but you have bigger heads, I would like my S-10 to sound like yours, I just today adjusted all my roller rockers, all were loose, got the ticking noise out but my Pete Jackson Gear drive is loud, I think I am gonna follow your build to some point, Have a Great Day, "The South Is Gonna Do It Again".
holy shit ive been thinking about taking my scottsdale and stroking the 350 in it or buying a 383 but there both pretty pricy. did you buy a 383 or did you stroke your engine. on a side note if you just happen to race some on put a few sandbags or something kinda heavy in the back so you wont spin them over so much while shifting
hey and I see you said your hesitant to throw out any hp figures. with the full roller cam you have and all the parts, Id be willing to bet your pushing 475ish. maybe even closer to 500 if your really lucky. what is your compresison ratio? my 383 w/ a bit smaller cam (but a flat tappet) made 450 hp and 479 ft lbs with the same heads, and an MSD pro billet Hei dizzy. HELLUVA nice car dude, Ive always loved those!
Love the sport coupe! They're getting to be more rare than the actual SS
This is how im coming 2019. Thanks for the motivation 💯✔👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I had a sweet redone 86 SS with a 355 and a 350 trans with the shift kit omg I miss that speed and rumble!!
Very nice monte carlo love the engine the paint and rims looks clean sounds mean keep it up!

That is awesome, I have a 383 (450HP 475 FTLB) in my 2door Yukon 5spd. These are bad ass engines!

You run a ProForm carb.? how has it been for you? I bought a set of there Roller Rockers years ago when the first came out and one of them broke...I haven't used their stuff since...has the quality come up?
@larscarlo> i thought that was the CL front. does't the ls have the two longer lights not the four lights?
What numbers are you putting down? I am almost 50% done with my 383 for my 84 Z28. I am running a scat forged rotating assembly, I-Beam Rods. @larscarlo i love mine too i had to daily my car for a few weeks and it was not bad at all except when i would forget to downshift at a light and try to take off in third "doh" surprisingly it would go pretty well but id quickly downshift so not to burn it up lol

Were there any extra tricks to make the the engine very responsive?
@larscarlo hi i see you said you had a TCI full manual rev. pattern valve body has it gave you any problems like your trans being running hot or anything and one other question i had is can you pull off in any other gear besides first or will the motor bog down to much to move

wow, that's impressive. I always wanted to put some power in my 84 SS but never go to it. That thing is a beast man. I loved the way mine handled and looked. Cragar SS wheels look realy good on these too but yours looks great, that's just what I had. Have you been down the strip yet?

What modifications were done to your monte's suspension and steering
holy shit ive been thinking about taking my scottsdale and stroking the 350 in it or buying a 383 but there both pretty pricy. did you buy a 383 or did you stroke your engine. on a side note if you just happen to race some on put a few sandbags or something kinda heavy in the back so you wont spin them over so much while shifting
