    Damn this just hit 100k views while I was on break lol, I would say subscribe but I honestly don't know if I will be putting out anymore content anytime soon with college and stuff. If anything, expect it around December or even as late as summer. Anyway, here's the transcription link on Musescore and learn your scales

    As technically brilliant as "Tempus Blue" was executed in 2022,. the show had no real meaning to anyone outside of BD, and seemed rather self-congratulatory, which rubbed a good number of folks the wrong way. BD have an unassailable history of technical brilliance, but they are also rapidly and broadly gaining a reputation for shows that are nothing more special than being specifically written to the sheets, rather than being written to move or inspire folks. I mean, D&BCs don't exist just to win something.. they were always intended to move one emotionally, spiritually, patriotically, etc. THIS was a show that left everyone talking and reliving the emotions of it, especially this ballad.
    I wasn't familiar with "My Body Is A Cage" before this, but it is now among my favorite moody ballad songs of all time. I think both Arcade Fire and Peter Gabriel owe a small debt of thanks to SCV for blasting it back into the current consciousness of music lovers.

    • @pro-seriesfabrication3810
      @pro-seriesfabrication3810 2 роки тому +4

      My thoughts exactly and I said as much after seeing the show on Semifinals night. BD is playing the game...they are checking the boxes to get the most score possible on the sheet but the shows are completely forgettable. Truly why the crowd is completely in a corp's camp when they complete with BD....the BD show moves almost no emotion.
      Babylon, Tilt, E=MC2, Angels and Demons, Spartacus....it's the complete opposite of BD. Damn the sheet, entertain the crowd.

    • @stuartcarter6922
      @stuartcarter6922 Рік тому +1

      BD executes brilliantly, but all too often are sterile as they do so.
      This year was a prime example. Sitting on the 45 at finals there was a tremendous build in the excitement over the course of the show. The Crown/Bluecoats/Boston block was as thrilling a trio of finalists as I can remember. The place was electric.
      Then BD came on and was a huge let down. Technically proficient, emotionally meh. Yes, they deserved to win, but got more of a golf clap than an ovation.

Side note: measure 19-20, I always heard him re articulate the note going into beat 1 on 20 rather than it being tied from previous measure. Do you hear it too or am I going insane? lol. overall nearly perfect job though, nice!

  • @nannyg666
    @nannyg666 10 місяців тому

    Most likely, no one will see this comment, but I want to point out that this is only 5 years ago - not some revered show from the olden days. Yet they a created an entirely modern show working within the rules of the day, with liberal use of microphones and amplification, modest synthesizer use, and a funky uniform concept. BUT THEY DID IT IN A WAY THAT DIDN'T SPIT ON DCI HISTORY OR TRADITION. In that sense, they wrote what may be one of the most "conventional" shows that DCI has put on in the last 15 years and it has become legendary and beloved. UA-cam videos abound. It probably ranks near the top of any list of shows done since 2005 and there are no electric guitars, keytars, QR codes, 3-minute stretches where the horns don't play anything, psychadelic-mushroom-induced uniform or prop designs, or any other trash. It's just a straight-up example of artistry in drum corps. And it baffles me that we didn't see more of this in 2019, 2022, or 2023, and probably won't in the future either.

    • @Avstinato
      @Avstinato  Рік тому +2

      Most younger baritone/euph players aren't taught Bb Treble in the US, so to just reach the most people I kept it in bass. If I was reading this or giving this to an advanced high schooler or college player I would change it to Bb treble or tenor clef, or just slap an 8va on the extreme stuff

    • @freyastears
      @freyastears Рік тому

      @@Avstinato I see, that's very interesting to me. I'm a horn player myself but all (or at least most) of the baritone/euph players I know were taught treble before bass clef. I am from Finland though so might just be different in each country

    • @Avstinato
      @Avstinato  Рік тому

      @@freyastears Oh wow, I knew that tenor was more common in Europe than here in the US but I didn't know it was actually taught as the default. Most bari/euphs here start with bass clef and then around their junior senior year of high school (16-17 years old) learn tenor clef on their own, but some private lesson teachers like to teach it earlier.

      "Drum Corps International" is the company hosting the competitions, the last 3 competitions of the year are called the world championships just because pretty much every corps that is able to usually attends. Also, Japan has a somewhat growing presence of drum corps though in a smaller and slightly unusual format compared to the US (they tend to play on baseball fields instead of football fields if I remember correctly).
