There is nothing constructive whatsoever about trying to diminish his performance based on your personal belief that this is not a difficult piece of music. A virtuoso among even the greatest in his craft (and that's not counting the almost unprecedented skill of doing what he does while DANCING).
But with a amateurish background in music (played from 3rd to 12th grade in band), you can see as many subtle points of brilliance as those god tier solos.
-Despise ALL that dancing and exertion, he somehow maintains perfect support for all his notes start to finish.
-He nails the right tongue attacks for each of those asininely hard glissandos and trills like they weren't even there
-His volume control (one of the THE hardest things to manage on the largest instruments while maintaining a solid timbered tone) is so good you barely notice he's doing it unless its a point of the song to demonstrate his ability to crescendo.
    -And finally, that etiquette:
Most in the audience rarely appreciate just how difficult it is to properly "blend" your instrument/grouping/section's part with the rest of the band without either overpowering them or being overwhelmed. And when it comes to solos, this is compounded by egos. The skill of "blending" is further confounded by an inherrent human need to outshine everyone in your one moment in the spotlight.
Our boi had no problems whatsoever. He wailed on that bari sax like a legend, but the MOMENT the rest of the band came in he dialed in back a notch to not overpower them. And when his fellow soloist came in on that Firebird Trumpet, he made sure to drop down to just below him to give him his moment in the sun before eventually raising it back up to similar levels.
Masterful. A sheer joy to listen to ^^
