- I had so much fun with this paper Nomad, amzn.to/49EwZSm (Affiliate link, thank you :-) its a little different but a great unique paper.
This paper is quite absorbent and needs a bit more water, so I used a softer Princeton brush, round 8 Neptune amzn.to/467SSYO
Of course you can use any round brush you have and paper! Its all about playing, learning and experimenting, Oh, and having fun with this beautiful medium which I hope you fall in love with as I have over the decades

📜On PAPER, I’ve used Meeden and Artisto for many years, and you’ll see me use one or the other in most of my tutorials. My Meeden paper suggestion is 100% cotton, has a really great texture and is finer grade. My Artisto paper recommendation is student grade, handles lots of water, (still good for wet on wet) and is a bit less expensive.

Such a wonderful, expertly taught rose tutorial Diane! I learned so many ways to improve my painting techniques, and not just for roses. Yesterday I experimented with my first landscape from a photo I took of the snow on mountains that run along the south end of the High Desert here. In particular I found that painting the shadows of the mountains, and not the snow, dictated that I implore some of the techniques used here! Can’t wait to tackle the landscape, and give this beauty a real good try! Thank you for sharing this beauty and all your expertise🤗😻🌹
Yes Jules great aha for you. Painting the negative space so to speak is a wonderful technique for snowy mountains. And adding in the smallest touches of Payne's Grey with Titanium white for the sides of the mountains with a slight shadow. I can see it in my head, what a fun project~ Happy painting friend, most of all play and have fun, it always shows in our paintings xo

It can be overwhelming doing everything, although; I've gotten much better over the decades at drawing I'm really not the best at it~ I use a lot of guidelines and little techniques to help me. I haven't even painted yet, but I sketched my first rose ever today using your rose as a reference pic! Your casual approach makes this less daunting - as a beginner, I appreciate that. I wish i could show you my triumph, but for now, the cat will do! Anyways, thank you!

Yes, use your rough paper, that would work well also. I do love this Nomad paper I bought last year, its been fun for little gifts, and I think it would be beautiful framed and allowing the rough edge to show. Maybe even tea stained?! How you use your brush like a pen amazes me. I try to do that myself and I can't. It's not easy.

Hi Linda, It is a handmade cotton paper by Nomad, I purchased last year on Amazon. Its a beautiful paper, soaks up a lot of water so I used a Princeton Neptune brush which is softer and holds more water. I also had to be careful of overworking the paper because it is so delicate, soft the beautiful texture and surface can get ruined if not careful and too much fussing with the painting.
