Bang for the buck :
-Fully modular power supply
-Trident Z ram
Here's the crazy thing about the Trident z... Even though it's RGB, occasionally depending on stock levels it's the cheaper choice. Crazy that RGB would be cheaper than something like RipSaw that's not RGB, but it is.
@@TravisFabel thats true, especially when you look 32gb kits. Team tforce rgb ram at 3000mhz was the same as a gskill 3000 32gb kit a few months ago.
@@muchostacos67 I got a 32gb kit Trident Z RGB 3200mhz cl16 for 135€ back in september which is super cheap
2x8GB 3200Mhz Team T-Force for ~50 bucks is bang for buck. I think this PC has better longevity tbh, so can't fault him for some of these choices since this PC appeals to gamers that like to see their rig. I'm old school and just find a spot where no one will see the PC in the event of a home invasion.
Trident Z isn't bang for buck as much as it is plug and play. It just works. The only other ram I recommend is Corsair Vengeance LPX because it's short and not RGB for stuff like stealth builds or DIY NAS.

PSA: That Wraith Max cooler is not even sort of the stock cooler. You guys did this last time too with the Wraith Spire. That 3100 comes with a Wraith Stealth, its very misleading to say that a given cooler is *THE* stock cooler just because it is *A* stock cooler.
That's a good point, but Wraith Stealth is still a perfectly good cooler for anything below Ryzen 5 3600.
@@Derael that really holds no bearing on what I said whatsoever

Had a hard time looking for usb-c connector on motherboards, finally found the MSI B550-A Pro. Best USB accommodation out of any board that I've had. Fan connectors are pretty nicely put on too
In December 2021, I wanted to build an allround PC, I found the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max.
It has a USB-C port, many USB Gen 3/2 ports, an M.2 NVME slot, six SATA ports (two of them are disabled if you are using an NVME storage), lots of PCI-e expansion slots… Basically everything a current PC needs in my opinion.
Flashing the BIOS is also easy. Now, I could even upgrade my CPU to a Ryzen 7 5600X or something, but I‘m really happy with my Ryzen 5 2600X as of today.

this is one of the things I dislike about linus, he says that the 3100 is best bang for the buck but it's 50 dollars more expensive than it was 2 months ago. it's also not even in stock most of the time because of how desired it is. I get that this is an AMD build, but an intel 10100 (f or non-f variant) beats out the 3100 in stocks, price, and performance.

Keep up the good work 💪
if your RAM doesn't come on bare green PCB, it's not bang for the buck
Or it's ECC and you are paying way more.
Bare minimum packaging
Except that the color of the PCB don't really have anything to do with the cost...
@matej nemec Nope... Why on earth would it be cheaper to use green color die compared to i.e red, blue etc? Green is not a cheaper color to buy so that makes no sense.. :P
@matej nemec Yes, like it says in the link... "So, why are most circuit boards green? The simple answer is because they’ve always done it that way, and there isn’t a clear reason to switch"
There is no extra cost for the color itself... Extra cost to use more machines or washing etc has nothing to do with the price of the color itself ;) So like I said.. There is no extra cost if they choose to use a different color than green.
Really would like to see a benchmark with it so I do know how it compares to other build and cost.

Ethernet to coax: using old coax cables already routed through walls as ethernet routing... No cutting drywall and running cables
Bah! You're no fun! Attic crawls are supercalifragic!
I have a network cable tester that has RJ45/8p8c jacks on both the tester and terminator plug. It came with several adapters for these RJ45/8p8c to convert them to other types of connectors, such as F-type coax and BNC coax. Normally, I plug an Ethernet cable into both the tester and the terminator and the tester will discover if all 8 pins on one end of the cable connect discretely to the 8 pins on the other end of the wire. The tester also has many different presets of known wire capacitance per foot for different wire types and can make an educated guess as to the length of the cable based on the value. There are settings for all sorts of cables (including some coax) or you can create your own if you know the specifics of your cable. I have never felt the need to use that functionality but I use my tester when either making network cables, confirming proper wiring of a network jack or trying to figure out which cable is which when I have a group of cables and can't otherwise tell which is which.
I haven't seen 10base2 networking in a wall anywhere since the 1990s.

I use my PC for video editing and AV creation and use all 5.1 outs for sound. I create 5.1 soundtracks so these outs are essential. I used to use a Soundblaster card with daughterboard and front panel I/O. Brilliant.
Speaking on the whole 5.1 thing. I do have a 5.1 setup and few things are actually setup to support or designed for it. For instance, I am using an HDMI input to my receiver and Windows recognizes it as a monitor so I have a dead space where applications go to die from time to time. You wouldn't believe how much audio is lost in your standard 2.1, some youtube/rumble/etc videos have all sorts of extra content in them. It is superior for everything you would want 5.1 for though; video games, movies, music, the immersion is unparalleled.
Thanks for the recommendations Linus! I really like most of your suggestions. But would have to disagree with your 750 watt NZXT modular PSU (US$133). The R3 3100 & Radeon 5700XT should be fine with 500 watts. Even stepping up to a 600 watt EVGA BR non-modular PSU (US$63) for future capacity would save US$70. That seems a better bang-for-buck for perfectly adequate performance. The non-modular cables can be easily hidden behind the PSU shroud. And you would never have to worry about misplacing your modular cables when you need another one for more storage later. Keep up the great work!
There's no such thing as bang for the buck at these times everything has gone up 20%
nah try 100%

typical UA-cam comment everytime Linus Stream. He usually read float plane and twitch chat XD
Remember to click the three dots to the right of the spam message to block the spammer. It really can make the streams nicer.
Oh man UA-cam chat:dumb kids(imao Iam a kid lol)

Thank you for all the knowledge along the way!
@33 minute mark. I built my first PC in 1998. It had a Creative Soundblaster audio card and I had 5.1 speakers hook into it. The irony, since I gamed at night, I always used headphones.
Linus: "My life sounds weirder when I.."
Me: 😳 Yeah...
Im the type of person to take intel's sponsor money and buy an AMD cpu

It’s there mating call ...
I actually did connected 5.1 analog speakers twice to my computer. First setup was like 1 amp + speakers for front, 1 amp + speakers for surround, 1 amp + speaker for center and sub was actually car subwoofer powered with power supply from PC. It was great. I felt like I'm starting spceship when I fired up everything :D And second setup was Creative Megaworks 550 speakers also through analog.
Btw, if you do a cross pattern when screwing in something it makes it easier because it holds the item in place.
You know what I like about Linus?
He's got 14 million subscribers, which means he's basically talking to 14 million people when he does anything here, yet somehow, it feels like he's just hanging out and talking directly to you. On top of that, he has a good time with what he's doing while also being competent, and beyond that, he's not afraid to be wrong.
What more can you want?
“Stock” cooler 🙄 *puts a Ryzen 7 cooler on a Ryzen 3*
Exactly what I noticed in the stream itself
ryzen 7 comes with the prizm
@@Naturalhighz that is a prism
Thats a rizen 5 cooler...the ryzen 7 has RGB (i just built a few of each for clients)

I work at a glass plant. Breaking tempered glass is definitely NOT scary lol. The reason it can suddenly “explode” is due to the tempering process. Tempering glass involves heating the glass and cooling it rapidly in order to introduce large amounts of stress into the piece of glass. It is strong when impacted anywhere except for the edges. Even a slight defect, chip, or pressure on an edge can cause it to release all this stress shattering it. I can hit the front of the panel with a shovel and nothing...I can then tap the edge with a screwdriver and BOOM
I build my bang-for-the-buck PCs from Micro Center when I have the money. It has been years since I built one, lol. Namely, since 2013. I did buy a video card upgrade from Best Buy cause the price was better there at the time, but that was a GTX970, so that has been a while too, but my most recent machine is a PowerSpec Laptop from Micro Center that was upgraded with parts from there, a PowerSpec 1520, which is a Clevo chassis/build PB50EF-G rebranded. Upgraded the RAM to 32gb, added a 1gb NVME stick, Micro Center brand, and a 2tb Samsung 860 Evo. Undervolted the CPU (i7-8750H) and have it running at a steady clock of around 3900mhz. The GPU is fine and dandy, a 2070 mobile non-MaxQ. And I happen to live in the town where Micro Center HQ is, so that is nice.
I was plugging a 5.1 in my pc! I still have that in my basement
Linus: "I did not drop that particular CPU, it's bullshit! I did not drop it! I did not... oh hi Mark..." (if only...)
Hmmm while it was an enjoyable video, Linus, you should have given us:
a) a price on every part used while introducing it! -> with an updated subtotal!
b) some footage of you actually using the system to game!
I’ve had Roswell ATX 750 watt gold power supply for the last 12 years, it has seen many upgrades and complete rebuilds. It’s a nice fire engine red and I will cry a river when it dies. I think it will outlast me. Always position your power supply at the very top of your tower and ensure a good filtered airflow from the front of your case. Place your tower at table level, never on the floor, it keeps dust inflow down; add semi-coarse (can see through) air filtering at the front of your case ( inside the case) where you draw incoming air. Vacuum these weekly and wash them monthly by hand, dry and reuse. Keep your case cool by adding case fans and cutting a hole directly where the cpu is located on your removable side panel (fan body is outside the case), point the exhaust end outwards to draw air from the cpu fan’s heat sinks. Place another computer fan in the space between your GPU and the front of the case to push the filtered air through the GPU fins. :) Damn you had butter fingers with those tiny screws to attach the PS. 😂 Did you install that PS at the bottom of the case? Naughty, naughty… 😈
On the audio, I simply use my optical audio jack to my 7.1 Sony audio system. Tada.. hehe.
Maybe stick Ventoy on a USB stick and keep some live USB environments on it so if he can't find his other drives, he can at least boot up something.
14:15 you ASKED him to throw it. my God quit crying linus lol
To him, not on him
Point of Order concerning leaving the plastic on:
If you've got kids and/or pets, any electronics below the doorknobs are at risk. Find people in their 20s and 30s and ask their parents about their experiences and you'll hear horror stories that make "peanut butter sandwich in the VCR" sound like something good.
I've got 20yo electronics that still look brand new thanks to leaving the plastic on, including those which have endured:
~ Cats 'wrassling'
~ Hyper dogs
~ Little fingers covered in everything from strawberry jam to maple syrup
~ Legos, Lincoln Logs, Kinex, and various other 'construction mishaps'
~ Carelessly-tossed shoes and backpacks
~ Et cetera ad nauseum
Never underestimate how much grief you can avoid by leaving a few bits of plastic in place to do the job for which they were applied in the first place.
I feel attacked right now with the av reviever comment 🤣
About the mobo and case port support: When I built my first set up my biggest problem was figuring out the case and motherboard combination since I wanted to make sure my mobo was 100% compatible with my case
33:00 ME. I DO. RIGHT NOW. I LOVE THEM. I mounted the rear speakers to the back of my chair and it's fantastic for watching movies and when I'd rather not have anything on my head.
Do NOT justify taking this from me, board manufacturers are always looking for an excuse to take away the things that make me happy. I need them to continue including this as standard.
