I live only 18 miles from Goldees! Driving to Blacks was just too far at my age, but, getting to Goldees may be the one thing to get me out of the house so early in the morning. I'm a recent widow of three months, have become house bound from taking care of my hubbie in his final years. Think I'll Uber over there when Spring hits. I need to eat their brisket and ribs before I die!!!!!
Sorry to hear that if you are elderly and can't drive you can try uber eats as well to deliver it not sure how good it will be if it gets delivered but that is an option but totally understand wanting to get out of the house.
18 miles in Texas is living on the same pixel on the map. I'd be doing it twice a week.
The fact Goldee's didn't get a star, but Interstellar did is some grade shenanigans imo. I've tried both and Goldee's is king of BBQ in Texas. They became Texas' #1 BBQ the year they opened, that's crazy. And their story is great, a group of college friends go work at the best BBQ joints and pool all their knowledge to make their BBQ along with some cultural fusion.

Great episode! This might break your brain on Goldee’s, but I think the best thing there is the ribs. Yes, the brisket is perfect, but those ribs man… wow.

Franklins was actually my first true authentic BBQ experience. We had no idea it was so famous when we first went and lucked out on a shorter line than usual. Needless to say it blew my mind on what BBQ could be.

But THANK YOU for validating my take on Franklin's brisket. With my whole heart ive been telling people its not worth the wait and there are plenty of other "closer" places to us (SATX) than it. I still need to check out Snow's however. Kinda sad tho that you didnt make it out to Lockhart. Blacks / Smitty's and Kreuz deserve some love exp considering they are some of the oldest. (ngl not sure they would crack top 10 tho)

He's totally right about it though. If you get the salt level right people will think your food is delicious, and all the other flavors and qualities you add become style choices. (Except in dessert where sugar becomes the salt.)

One of the best newcomers is HEB. They have a full fledged smokehouse restaurant in Georgetown and I honestly prefer it to all bbq.
Texas BBQ started in meat markets. It's flabbergasting that HEB is this late to the party.
