Cosmere Q&A | What Is The Oathpact?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 вер 2024
- The Stormlight Archive is a story heavily focussed on bonds. Bonds between people, bonds between nations, and bonds between those of the present with those of the past. And in today’s Cosmere Q&A video, I’d like to discuss one of the most important Bonds on the planet of Roshar; the Oathpact...

Slight spoilers for oathbringer.
The most incredible thing to me is even after those 4 thousand years of torture. The only thing taln felt was joy that humanity had finally gotten a chance to advance and maybe end the war forever. Arguably the most good hearted person in fiction (in my opinion). That scene with him and ash was heartbreaking.
Taln is too pure for Roshar and I hope he has a happy ending
@@RavensRants im ready for his history book in the back half of stormlight
Honestly, I'm really happy your channel is a thing, your content is amazing and really well made, and it's great to see a UA-cam channel dedicated to the cosmere.
Aww that's so nice of you to say. Thank you so much 😊
@@RavensRants no problem
@@yashanain1099 you can say that again
There is something in what you said, that strikes a tone with me. All of Odiums cognitive shadows are trapped on Braize when all of Honors cognitive shadows are trapped. something about that sentence...As long as Honors shadows is connected to Braize, all Roshar shadows are connected to Braize...
id love to see a more detailed explanation of voidlight/stormlight/lifelight, their combinations, and how this may/may not parallel with allomancy/feruchemy from mistborn with the combinations of those inventitures
I can definitely do a video on the different forms of Light from Stormlight Archive, but I don't think there are parallels with the Metallic Arts. Regardless its a good suggestion so I probably will do a video on the Lights 🙂
@@RavensRants i guess we can only theorize at this point, but I thought that maybe with the fact that raysium is a thing that the metallic arts may have links with ANY god metal
Thanks for doing this! Great video.
I just finished Warbrealer yesterday BTW and I loved it (starting Elantris today).
So. New video topic for you: The Returned.
Hmmm I'll look into it and see if there's enough substance for a video on them
🙏
Great video
Thanks 🙂
I don’t know if it’ll be Dalinar, Navani, or who(m)ever, but if a new Oathpact is set up at some point sufficiently far enough in the future, then there is the strong possibility that while the Heralds (old or new) are stuck on Braize, the Rosharan forces could have space flight. At least sufficient enough for travel in system. So while the Heralds are technically honoring the terms of the pact by remaining on Braize, there could be reinforcements en-route so they’re not alone, and can have time to rest. Maintain their sanity and bring the fight to them!
And at the rate they’re making advances on Roshar, it wouldn’t even have to be that far into the future. Maybe even only as little as a decade.
Good idea, but the Fused are Cognitive Shadows so even if they have reinforcements, how do you kill them? 😅
@@RavensRants - That’s for Sanderson to theoretically figure out, lol. For me, the point was to keep the fighting off of Roshar while they continue making technological and realmatic advances to tackle that issue of ending the fused.
Really appreciate your videos! Have you done a video on Jasnah? We know some about her but a lot is shrouded in mystery.
Thanks! And I haven't, but I do eventually want to do some videos on secondary characters at some point. And she'd definitely be in there
I would love to see a video about Vorinism and it's history
Hmm, I don't know if we have a lot of information on it, but I'll check. If we do, then sure 🙂
I would like to see a video were you examinate the death rattles and try to decifrate them
A Death Rattle video has been on my to do list for a while. I should probably get around to it 😂
Can we speculate on whether there could be a metal for each shard - eg Tanavastium, Raysium, etc., and what might happen if a misting or Mistborn were to burn metals from various non-Scadriel shards?
We could speculate, but I don't know if there's enough substance for a video though. I'll give it some thought
I feel like there are a lot of holes in the Oathpact logic. Why not just massacre all the singers and then you don't have to worry about the voidbringers coming back? There are definitely some moral implications but it is a solution that is never mentioned in the books. Instead they discuss murdering the heralds. If they didn't want to do that then why didn't they prepare mankind for the next desolation after they finally "won" when only Taln died. They could have sequestered all the singers to a particular area and built up their military there in anticipation of when he finally broke. Presumably they could have done this after any of the desolations really. Or they could have even rescued Taln if they prepared mankind for the next desolation then returned to Braize only to give up immediately and return to Roshar to win the war quickly. Also why did it take millennia to come up with the contest of champions idea? Apparently Ishar knows the contest of champions is a thing. Even if all the heralds were broken from endless cycles of war and torture they could have trained up a champion. Also why didn't the original knights radiant consider any of these things or do anything about it? If the heralds were too broken/weak why couldn't the previous order of radiants figure out how to set up a contest of champions or new oathpact? Are we supposed to believe this new fledgling order of radiants headed by Dalinar is going to figure all of this out? Dalinar is kind of dumb. He spent most of his life being an illiterate borderline crazy murderer. They don't have access to all the ancient knowledge that the original knights radiant would have had.
