i'm obsessed with Safiya's videos so when i was this i was like !!! that was a really good idea. We Shall Not All Sleep sounds so random based on the synopsis but i am kind of intrigued
I love this idea! I've watched Safiya's videos before, and I love that you put your own booktube spin on it!! I love your channel so much because of how original it is
I defo loved this concept. We always try to find books that we think we want but this is definitely a way for us to get introduced to books we never know would blow us away. I just admire your planning... like how long have you chose them then wait for them to arrive and unbox them. Love this vid!
I've done a similar blind buy on BookOutlet. I chose a section I knew I liked (so Fantasy for me) and then randomized everything (through a random number generator): sorting, page, row, and book in the row. I stopped when my cart was around $35. I redid a couple to get rid of any sequels. I've found a few gems I otherwise never would've known about. :)
Oooh, I LOVE THIS VIDEO! What a great idea! I added two books to my TBR from this video (Beautiful Terrible Thing and Stranger in the House). Almost every time I watch one of your videos, I end up adding books to my TBR. Hahaha. I just got Violent Ends in the mail (that was from another one of your videos). I can't wait to watch more from you!
You always have such unique ideas! I would love if you did this for Goodreads or any other website. Mysteries and thrillers are also some of my favorites too, so I get so many recommendations from you! I even don't like when the book centers around a detective solving the mystery like you, so it's perfect.
I know Safiya's videos and like the concept. Cool that you are trying it with books. I'd love to see you doing this format with Goodreads recommendations. I get so many and never really go for them. Thanks for posting!
I was hoping that this would be a video based off of Saf's as soon as I saw it! Definitely added some of these books to my TBR. I lowkey want to do this as well...
This was a great experiment! I've already put "A Beautiful Terrible Thing" on hold at the library thanks to this video. I would love to see the Booktube, Goodreads, Twitter, etc., videos! Can't wait!
CANADIAN PRICES ARE THE WORST AGREED I literally can barely buy books in stores the synopsis for We Shall Not All Sleep sounds wild ALSO THIS WAS SUCH A COOL VIDEO
Loved this video! It was such great fun to watch you choosing books, judging them upon arrival and then actually diving into them and having to readjust your feelings about some of them! I'd love to see more videos like this!
Love Safiya's first 5 series so I had to watch this video of yours when I saw the title. I really enjoyed this, especially intriguing how the book synopses and the first chapters gave you different opinions about the books. Would love to see more of this with the different social media; Goodreads, Twitter etc 😊
Good Me Bad Me, A Stranger in the House and White Bodies are all on my most anticipated reads list from the last couple of months. I heard about all of them from "reading books like a boss". Megan is a blogger and always has thrillers/suspense on her upcoming books being released each month. Love her blog and love adult thrillers :D
I really enjoyed this. It was something different and I've been curious myself with some of the books that pop up on my instagram feed. Glad someone dove in and figured out if they were worth the buy. Would definitely be interested in seeing another.
I love that you were inspired by Safiya's videos! This was such a unique idea. I'm becoming a bit bored with booktube when it's the same content by every channel. So it's great to see all of your unique ideas! Would love to see more of these types of videos :)
I think this could work for me at the library. Like picking five random books from Instagram or that are displayed on the shelves. What a clever way to try new books!
I really loved your rendition of Safiya's "formula" for her videos. This was so much fun as a BookTube video, and I'd love to see an update on what you do with these books, or maybe a part 2? Either way, great job!
I love Safiya's videos and I love this. Please do it again. Is there a way to use Goodreads for the next one? Like "The First 5 Books Goodreads Recommended To Me."
I tried to film a goodreads one, not gonna lie. My recommendation list was too much a trashfire to execute it effectively. May try again with another method!
I don't get changing book ads on Goodreads all that often. It mostly sticks to one book for a couple of weeks. :/ Maybe you can focus on one shelf of recommendations per video or choose a selection of shelves to scroll through.
I found this to be really interesting!! I was expecting there to be a follow up video at a later date so I was excited that the review was included. Your videos rock!
Aaaah I though of Soafiya when I saw this. It's a great idea! I don't know how I discovered you on UA-cam, but I am slowly becoming addicted to your videos. They're great!
Wow that was super fun!! I put the two books you are going to for sure keep on hold at my library before you came back with your opinion. I like your taste in books.
Interesting video. I think it's great to try books you were recommended and I'm glad you found at least two you liked. I don't read the synopsis on all my books because sometimes it has spoilers. I'd love to see more similar videos where books are recommended to you on various sites!
Oh, Lala- from your early diaper days to your last couple years on UA-cam- you're always a peach to watch. I wish we were even remotely in the same vicinity!
This is a great idea for a video! Good me bad me is FANTASTIC, one of the best books I've read this year, and I'm not usually a psychological thriller reader! Shari Lapena's new one is on my tbr
I like the concept of buy the first 5 things videos and I think it was well adapted. Personally I think I'd like to see buy the first 5 books from Goodreads recommendations. Great job and keep up the amazing work.
These kind of videos are really interesting to watch as a viewer! It’s such a fun and spontaneous thing to do but there’s no risk on our end since we personally don’t have to spend our money on the books 😅
This video is so cool!! I would love to see more of this kind with different social media, like goodreads or twitter. Good Me Bad Me sounded very intriguing when you first described it and I went ahead and added it to my TBR but now I'm hesitant to buy it because of the writing style since I've never read something like that... I think I'm going to read a couple of GR reviews and decide later :) But please more of these videos !!!
I loooooove this video, I think I might have to try it for myself haha! This was such a good idea. I love Safiya's videos, so I love seeing a booktube twist
I'd love to try this but definitely have to wait till I have a job. I can't afford to buy books that I might not like enough to ever read. That being said, I could probably try doing it with my library. Anyway, this was definitely a cool challenge. A stranger in the house sounds good. I have yet to read the couple next door so I'm putting off purchasing a stranger in the house until then. I love your facial expression while reading the synopsis. The white bodies sounds good. I heard about it somewhere but not certain I'm intrigued enough to read. If you read the stranger in the house I'd love review since I seem to agree with your reviews/feelings.
I literally just watched one of the Safyia videos the other day! 😱 White bodies and a stranger in the house was on my most anticipated reads this month!
I hear ya on the Canadian pricing. The fact that I work in a library really helps me not spend all of my paycheque on books, and then my city has some great new and used book stores.
I love watching Saf's videos like this, so when I saw yours I was soooo excited. I love this idea and I hope you film more videos like this! Maybe so you don't spend so much money, you could get the books from the library? Or you could buy the first 5 books at the thrift store?
BooksMoviesAndMusic OhMy these were all brand new releases unfortunately, like 2 hadn't even been released when I filmed the first part. I would have had to wait months and months before being able to compete the video!
It's not more boring with books - we're all bookworms here! Haha! :D Super fun idea! And Safiya is so great! So cool that you thought to transfer that idea over to books. :)
To be fair Canadian Minimum wage is 11 dollars (most places in Canada pay 13-15) and America minimum wage is 7.00 the average getting paid is 9 dollars.
This was such a fun video! I really love that you shared the choosing, the receiving, AND the reading updates with us. 😀😍❤ I'm envious that this was something you were able to afford to do. I could *maybe* do it if I chose from a hashtag paperbacks feed. But I'd be afraid to do it, since I only really enjoy Urban Fantasy/Fantasy books. And going off of books that I've never heard of, most would be other genres, I'd think. So. . . 🤔😟 But. . .maybe I'll try this method for choosing what books to put on hold at/request from my library? *That* could be doable. . . 🤔😀❤
I really enjoyed this. I would like to see a version that is genre specific. Like the first 5 contemporary or literary fiction recommended to you. This one kind of ended up as thriller lol
i'm obsessed with Safiya's videos so when i was this i was like !!!
that was a really good idea. We Shall Not All Sleep sounds so random based on the synopsis but i am kind of intrigued
Not gonna lie, I thought of you when I saw We Shall Not All Sleep, I'm not sure why! Maybe you should read it and tell us all if it's good lol
that's super random haha but i am very curious now! gonna see if my lib has it
WellDoneBooks Same!
Immediately, I thought "This feels like a Safiya video." Hahaha I love this video idea!
Do recommended to me on Goodreads please!!
This would be a great idea!
This could be fun! I sometimes get really weird recommendations on Goodreads xD
I love this idea! I've watched Safiya's videos before, and I love that you put your own booktube spin on it!! I love your channel so much because of how original it is
OMG I LOVE SAF!! AND YES IW AS TOTALLY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DO THIS LOVE U LALA ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ahhhh thank you!!!! ♥♥
I defo loved this concept. We always try to find books that we think we want but this is definitely a way for us to get introduced to books we never know would blow us away. I just admire your planning... like how long have you chose them then wait for them to arrive and unbox them. Love this vid!
I love watching your old vids cause I love watching the phases of your hair! Also I still need to read my first Shari Lapena lol
That sounds so fun! I didn't think to do this on Book Outlet, I'll keep that idea in my pocket for later!
Love this idea !! A Stranger in the House sounds very intriguing!!
Lala is like the only UA-camr who is actually creative! These videos just keep coming and I'm totally loving them!
Love you, Lala! ♡
I really really liked this concept. It was so much fun to see what you thought about these very random books. Definitely want to see it again :)
This is such a good idea! I'd personally do it at a library or op shop because I'm broke but it's a fascinating way to find some hidden gems.
Oooh, I LOVE THIS VIDEO! What a great idea! I added two books to my TBR from this video (Beautiful Terrible Thing and Stranger in the House). the synopsis for We Shall Not All Sleep sounds wild
ALSO THIS WAS SUCH A COOL VIDEO
Gabi Arno I genuinely only buy books like once a year
Try Amazon :\
Loved this video! It was such great fun to watch you choosing books, judging them upon arrival and then actually diving into them and having to readjust your feelings about some of them! I'd love to see more videos like this!

When I saw the title I totally thought that it sounds like a Saf video! I was not expecting this from you but I am obsessed!! Yesssssss

I really am loving the different types of videos you have been doing lately!
I really enjoyed this. It was something different and I've been curious myself with some of the books that pop up on my instagram feed. Glad someone dove in and figured out if they were worth the buy. Would definitely be interested in seeing another.
Yesss. All the sequels to this!! Thank you. This was fun!
I just got into Safiya's videos so it was so cool to see this video pop up in my feed!
Yes! This was such a cool idea for a video and I love Saf's series! Would love to see another video like this!

I love Safiyas "first 5 things" videos!! So excited for this one!!
Do this again!!
i love when Safiya does this. i love it even more with books. so yes! do it again!
Yes!! I love Saf's videos so her 5 things videos plus books plus Lala is perfection
I love Safiya's videos and I love this. Please do it again. Is there a way to use Goodreads for the next one? Like "The First 5 Books Goodreads Recommended To Me."

LOVE this idea, and your bangs.
Ahhh thank you!!
Girl chapters is my life I go there at least once a week, new to you're channel and I loved this video
Definitely want to see you continue this concept! Loved it!
I found this to be really interesting!! I was expecting there to be a follow up video at a later date so I was excited that the review was included. Your videos rock!
OMG thats such a good idea. I get a lot of recs from bookstagram but I wouldn't have thought to make a video to buy them!
Aaaah I though of Soafiya when I saw this. It's a great idea! I don't know how I discovered you on UA-cam, but I am slowly becoming addicted to your videos. They're great!
This is SUCH a great idea!! I hope you try this experiment again in a few months!
Definitely would love to see more of these! It's interesting to see how good those algorithms are :)
Wow that was super fun!! I put the two books you are going to for sure keep on hold at my library before you came back with your opinion. I like your taste in books.

"We Shall Not Sleep" has the most random what the heck synopsis.
I love Safiya so much this was such a cute spin off!
This was actually really cool, you should totally do more of em
Oh, Lala- from your early diaper days to your last couple years on UA-cam- you're always a peach to watch. I wish we were even remotely in the same vicinity!

I love Safiya's videos like this so this was great to see.
I'd love to try this but definitely have to wait till I have a job. I can't afford to buy books that I might not like enough to ever read. Omg that first synopsis, I laughed so hard :D
I literally just watched one of the Safyia videos the other day! 😱
White bodies and a stranger in the house was on my most anticipated reads this month!
This is such a cool idea! I loved Safiya's videos in a similar vein!
I hear ya on the Canadian pricing. The fact that I work in a library really helps me not spend all of my paycheque on books, and then my city has some great new and used book stores.
love this idea! and your genuine reactions were hilarious. "and up-and-comind starlet" ...oohh...
I love Safiya's videos like this! She is one of my favorites!
This is awesome btw! Again, I may need to do this video too!!

You made me laugh out loud multiple times in this video. “Um, okay!?” Great concept, I would watch more!
this is actually a really fun idea! Definitely going to give it a go when I need to mix up my reading material a bit :D
I love this video and the idea! Also, I need to go follow so many people that you follow now because they post some awesome books!
Such a good idea, I'm so curious about all of these novels now!
It's not more boring with books - we're all bookworms here! Haha! :D

I love your twist on this video tag
this was great and i'd love it if you did more!!
Loved this! You are one of the most creative booktubers!
This was such a fun video! I really love that you shared the choosing, the receiving, AND the reading updates with us. 😀😍❤

I would definitely watch this again!! Recommended to me on Twitter next? I’m tempted to do that myself!
I liked this. It was super cute and different. I think it is a great way to put things on your to read list.
Please do more of these I love them!
I really enjoyed this. I would like to see a version that is genre specific. Like the first 5 contemporary or literary fiction recommended to you. This one kind of ended up as thriller lol
