What a great video! Nice to see an instructional quilting video without going to the sewing machine. So much information delivered in a very friendly & humorous way. I'd love to meet her!
Wow, I was impressed with the amount of information in this video. I'm gathering thoughts on how to quilt my first quilt, and this has given me a lot to think about. I really appreciate the gentle humor too!
I am practicing with rulers ... having avoided quilt my quilts, I thought it was time to teach myself. First stubble...What to quilt on my quilt? Sat staring into space, you tube, google for 6hrs last night. Found this today. From the five basic shapes and permission to doodle, I am feeling more enthusiastic now. Thank you
Love this video! As soon as she started talking, I started digging for something to take notes on! First time I've ever taken notes on a UA-cam video and first time I've ever liked one so much that I actually added a comment on a video.
This is an excellent video! 4 years ago watching this saved me from the despair that I would never be able FMQ worth a darn. Her comment that you only need to be able to learn one thing well kept me going. Thank you so much!
Fantastic teacher. I saw how long this was and thought I'd probably stop watching after a few minutes.. I wound up watching the whole tutorial, because the teacher and the information was so good. Thank you for putting this up.
LOL - The very first quilt I quilted (queen size too!) was a sampler quilt! I did it though and I'm totally proud of the quilt -- it took over 35 years between when I made the top and quilted it.... but it's done and I'm thoroughly enjoying it on my bed!
Haha a lot of this hit so close to home. I spent a good 9 months on my first (non-UFO) quilt top with my own pattern, hand embroidered blocks etc. And quite frankly I was scared to mess it up to quilt it myself. I went to a quilt shop and had that it has to be perfect attitude. I appreciate your tips. I feel more inclined to do something simpler than I was planning to for my next design :)
I'm relatively a new free motion quilter & always looking for ways to improve. I like the sketch book idea to practice the patterns. I found this class very informative. Thank you
I love the tip on using the pressing and seal because I love quilting and I do the panagrame I'm still learning but following lines you have traced seems like a great ideal and easier to following
Ms Hansen is super-cute, and has lots of good information. Some things I didn't know - longarms don't "Stitch In The Ditch" very well. Samplers are hard to quilt. 5 basic shapes. What IS the block that you're basing your pattern on? Well worth the time spent.
Watched the whole video and learned a lot, although I had heard about "press 'n seal" I didn't really get it until I watched you. Although I will never have a long arm (no money, no room) I am constantly trying to improve my machine quilting. I have suffered from wrong decisions and generally I am more than ready to move on from a quilt, because I am tired of some pattern I started out with. Ripping out, oh I have done lots of that. Thank you for a wonderful class and the great information.
This was a wonderful video, and really helped me get an idea for some things to practice before I try quilting on my new machine--I never had a walking foot or could drop the feed dogs before.
Great video with lots of useful information, thank you! One suggestion would be to repeat the questions because on the video, we can not hear them, only the answers, lol. Thx again.
I really enjoyed Karen Hansen. She is interesting and has a quirky sense of humor that was a lot of fun to watch. I learned a lot from this video. I wish we had a Karen in my town.
Very, very interesting. I think I'm going to have to watch this over and over, but wonderful presentation, entertaining & informative. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for all of your valuable knowledge! This educational video will help me so much. Explained everything great was easy to follow. Enjoyed you lessons and humor.
This is GREAT! I don't have, nor ever will, a long-arm. I have picked up some tips, though, and I hope to learn to machine quilt with my sewing machine. I'm just learning to hand quilt, and working on a twin-sized BOM. You talked about picking out the sts you didn't like. Do you have to pick one stitch at a time, or can you pull & get several at a time? Thanks for a great video. I've already passed the link to my guild.
loved this, learnt a lot, totally agree with the sketch book both for practise and reference, loved the comment at 43 mins in that you didn't care that your spiral wasn't perfect because you couldn't do a perfect one...i cant do perfect feathers so when i feel the need to put one in, il just go for it i roughly freehand one using zigzag stitch and go over it again with a different size zigzag so it looks like i was dodeling or something..that said i userly know when im making the top how i want to quilt it.
Your knowledge and delivery is wonderful. Caught and held my attention. I have two heirloom quilt tops I'm sending off to have basted so I can hand quilt them. No small project since I've never done traditional quilting before and am cramming like crazy and gathering supplies so I can begin to practice---a lot! I would so much appreciate some suggestions on what type of design to quilt them with. As far as I can figure , they were done in the late 1800s and contain lots of calico. Any suggestions welcome, at all. Oh, these will be all hand stitched. Thanks so much.
This is a very interesting video for anyone who wants to quilt their own quilt. I have always done hand quilting and wonder about the difference in value as to hand quilting versus machine quilting. I was unable to hear any of the questions presented by the audience therefore it was difficult to understand some of responses by the teacher.
Thank you! I wondered if the permanent ink of a sharpie on the glad wrap product or on the water soluble film would color the thread when you remove the film?
Really would have liked to hear the questions as well as the answers. Maybe you could summarize the question when you answer. Otherwise, this was a great presentation!
I’m hopeless. I like using floral fabric on the back and sewing over the edges of the flowers and leaves from the back. Then I end up with lovely flowers on the front!
What a great video! Nice to see an instructional quilting video without going to the sewing machine. So much information delivered in a very friendly & humorous way. I'd love to meet her!

I'm a new quilter and this video has just answered so many problems I was having. A great foul quilter all the way from England. Thank you so much
I'm new to quilting. Just watched your video and loved it. Your sense of humor adds a wonderful touch. Please make more You Tube tutorials.
Absolutely loved the class. Very charismatic instructor. I found it very enlightening.

I'm a newbie and i want to say thanks for your informative, humerous advice. Loved this. I know i'm late to the party but pleae don't stop.
I so appreciate people sharing their skills on youtube - it's wonderful. This was a great video, thanks.

I am new to quilting. This class was full of awesome information and tips. She inspired me to not get discouraged and be creative.
Thank you for making me feel better about my short arm quilting skills and my cooking skills. 😊
I come back to this video time and time again. So good and Karen is so funny!
I totally enjoyed this class. Your sense of humor was wonderful and your instructions and tips were wonderful. Looking forward to giving them a try.
Fantastic teacher. I saw how long this was and thought I'd probably stop watching after a few minutes.. I wound up watching the whole tutorial, because the teacher and the information was so good. Thank you for putting this up.
Love your sense of humour, and I don’t think I have watched another video that’s taught me so much, thank you

I love the tip about the press and seal! Thank you VERY much for the tip!
You are as funny as you are talented. Thank you so much for sharing all that you know.

I totally enjoyed this tutorial. Thank you. Knowledge never gets old, even though the tutorial may be.

This is a great and informative video with some very valuable information, not to mention the inspiration to get to it.
This was a wonderful class! Finally I can feather using the S line and then quilting 1/2 hearts. Really easy for me. Thanks again!

Thank you so much, much needed glad. Much needed especially for newbies who can't afford a class, but loves to quilt. Again very good
OMG, that was just amazing. I so, so enjoyed this tutorial. I love your presentation style, started watching and really enjoyed. Thank you.
Wow! A amazing wonderful, and informative, talk. Thank-you for putting it up on UA-cam.

Wow! Just what I needed to hear since I just purchased a long arm. Wonderful suggestions. Can't wait to get a sketch pad.
Thank you- such great information. I've been terrified thinking about doing the quilting- now I feel ready to do it.
This was a wonderful video, and really helped me get an idea for some things to practice before I try quilting on my new machine--I never had a walking foot or could drop the feed dogs before.
Thank you so much, I loved your presentation. Karen you gave me so much to think about before quilting. Learned a lot.
Great video! Very entertaining as well as extremely informative. Excellent job, excellent teacher Thanks so much!

I really enjoyed Karen Hansen. She is interesting and has a quirky sense of humor that was a lot of fun to watch. I learned a lot from this video. I wish we had a Karen in my town.
Where is her home town and fabric shop?
Longmont, CO and we don't have one. The closest shop is in Lyons, CO,
Very, very interesting. I think I'm going to have to watch this over and over, but wonderful presentation, entertaining & informative. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for all of your valuable knowledge! This educational video will help me so much. Explained everything great was easy to follow. Enjoyed you lessons and humor.
Thank you so much for this video, I'm just starting quilting and this was very helpful.
gosh i love this woman! does she have any dvd's?
Great lesson and great teacher! Thanks.

Brilliant Video, i'm a new quilter, thankyou so much for sharing so much expertise, it gave me so much to think about.
Love her style!

Learned a lot . Thanks.
Up the learning curve. I think this is REQUIRED watching for all quilters and longarm quilters as well.
Very informative and extremely entertaining. Thank you.
Great program! Thanks!
Very nice talk. I learned some important things that actually seem like common sense once you hear but may never have thought of it on my own :-)
Your knowledge and delivery is wonderful. Caught and held my attention. I have two heirloom quilt tops I'm sending off to have basted so I can hand quilt them. No small project since I've never done traditional quilting before and am cramming like crazy and gathering supplies so I can begin to practice---a lot! Leah Day is the gal with hundreds of quilting designs.
LindieLee Leah Day is AWESOME!!!
I like this gal, She has a cute sense of humor. I enjoyed her information , feel like I learned some things. What was her name?

This is excellent!
A bit of a shame that press and seal has been discontinued in my neck of the woods. It didn't sell well at the supermarket ...
wonderful class
Thank you! I wondered if the permanent ink of a sharpie on the glad wrap product or on the water soluble film would color the thread when you remove the film?
The Glad Press 'N Seal seems like a good idea, but won't the adhesive gum up your needle, thread or machine?
Watching from UTube. Who is this? I'd love to get her books.
VERY HELPFUL AND I THANKYOU!
Good advice.
Making the quilt top is pretty fast and pretty easy, but quilting the top is a different story.
Really would have liked to hear the questions as well as the answers. Maybe you could summarize the question when you answer. Otherwise, this was a great presentation!
I loved this! Why have I not found you before, you are AWESOME!
This is a good video!
Thanks!
Does Karen have her own web site? Looked for the book on Amazon. Uk 🇬🇧 could not find it
Where can I purchase your books and what are the titles. I am having difficulty finding any.
May I suggest deli paper which is much cheaper than tracing paper.
LindieLee
What size thread do you use on your free motion quilting?
Margie Dobradenka
Didn't the one you showed the back on have a name quilted in it? Looked like Julia..
nnice
.Do NOT use Press n Seal. The Sharpie ink can transfer onto your thread and IT NEVER COMES OUT!! Ask me how I know
+Elizabeth Peterson Same thing happened to me. The only way to do it, is to stitch next to the sharpie line not on top!
I’m hopeless. I like using floral fabric on the back and sewing over the edges of the flowers and leaves from the back. Then I end up with lovely flowers on the front!
Very clever of you!!! What a great idea!!!Love it.
Great, but can't hear the questions. She didn't repeat them. Learned a lot, tho.
1980
wait, why am i watching this?
Is this a comedy show
Thank you.
