Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Brutally Honest Ownership Review | Engine, Ergonomics, and Handling

- The new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 has received a lot of attention in the media as well as some Bike Of The Year awards. Do I think it deserves such accolades so early into its life cycle? No, I don't think so.
Watch the video and understand why I like this bike and why I don't.

Very crisp to the point and extremely informative video. Kudos. Something that is missing in the mainstream media.

spot on comment.
Hello, how much did you rise the handlebar ? And were there any issues with cable lengths at your rise?
I believe that 1st and 2nd gear been short is a good thing for slow chugging along in the offroad sections.
You are the first person to talk about the gears, kudos for that.
I think the rise is 2 inches appx
No issues with the cable lengths. Needs to be re-routed.
Long gears are better for chugging along. The gears are short and need constant changing. Though you can rev out the engine on 2nd gear and get the bike to 50+kmph.
Great review, thank you.
Another good review . Brutally honest yes but I don’t think RE will be best pleased.
Pleasing a company will never be my aim during a review, an Honest and as accurate as possible information will always be the aim.
To hell with RE. They need to keep us happy for the money we give
Its was really a brutal review better than other biased reviewer love your video but after watching this video I have mixed feelings about 450 whether to go for it or not bc currently im riding a 125 scooter so should i opt for it or something else?
@@sankastic which 125cc scooter? Aprilia? Take a long test ride of the Himmy 450 if possible. Any other 125 scooter? Buy it... its definitely an upgrade.
@@tallguyrides792 its maestro but i want to upgrade to bike and it'd be my first bike so will it be ok to go for himmy? Bc am looking for an adv i know there's adv 390 too and its engine way more good than himmy but in terms of looks adv 390 doesn't seem like an adv it more looks like a city bike in my opinion so whats your take on upgrading on 450?
@@sankastic bro from a scooter, any 250cc + bike is a big upgrade. For you a Himmy 450 is a better bike. The 390 adv still has the mannerisms of a Duke 390... too much power that comes suddenly and too little experience riding a motorcycle is a bad combo...
@@tallguyrides792 thank you so much sir 🙏 planning to buy my first bike himmy this Diwali ❤️
Loved the video mate. Very well explained.

@@tallguyrides792 Done mate
Very informative 👏
Paints true picture.
As a prospect buy - Are the engine vibes something RE is likely to resolve soon?
Nope. Lol.
@@tallguyrides792 👍
@@tallguyrides792 but I wouldn't be suprised if the engine is ok and built to do 7,000RPM all day long - don't you think it just feels different than the old engine? higher compression etc? I guess you would need to compare it to a KLR or BMW or something else. Thanks. That would be a major concern for me as a US buyer where 75-80mph would be part of normal driving
@@pawpawbandit3871 I don’t they have cracked the code on how to run at 7k rpm easy all day. This bike can do it but will feel stressed.
The Himmy450 can keep at 75/80mph but will not be at ease. KLR has a pretty big displacement advantage over this one.
Thanks for reviewing and sharing it. I am planning to replace my classic 500 for mountain rides. (Need to cover planes before reaching mountains though😂 ) Would you recommend this or Scrambler 400x?
Haven’t ridden the scrambler400x. So can’t say. 🥲
Once have a check with service center, I own this machine but for me I only have vibrations in between 4K to 5k rpm past that it just disappears, that too will decrease after 1st service as I was told. Braking is very nice for me.
Frankly it depends on what bikes you are used to riding. Which bike do you own/did you own before this one?

@@tallguyrides792 that's what I mean, I'm not familiar with motorcyles, so I probably wouldn't notice much of anything. my ninja 250 was smooth at high rpm?!?! apples and oranges.
Nice and crisp informative video, buddy 👌🏻

👍🏼 for the windscreen, are you planning to change it for a higher screen in the near future?
Probably not, such motorcycles don’t really benefit from a taller screen…
it's such a bizzare windshield, I would have to change it to a wider one, just for the look
@@pawpawbandit3871 I personally feel the windshield looks nice. Its job isnt wind buffeting protection but to hide some of the wiring and bracket work going on for the instrument console and headlight assembly
@@tallguyrides792 yeah I guess I get it
Appreciate ur honest review, So wich one would you recommend between ktm 390 adventure X & re Himalayan 450??
Frankly, I would think the Adv X would be a better tourer. However, it depends a lot on rider personality. I like touring at higher speeds.
For offroading, Him450 is much better.
If you liked the video, please consider subscribing to my channel and sharing it with others. Ty!
Do you think Scrambler 400x would be a better option?
Being an owner i wud prefer Axially mount calipers with axial master cylinders
Adjustable levers
Handle bar riser a must
Ride modes lit❤️
Touring❤
Suspension ✅
Coneset gets loose on bad patches frequent adjustments mandatory even after adjusting not satisfied with service center
Side stand slant😭while filled with full tank
Not good for someone below 5'8 feet who are going to buy it as a first bike .....But for experienced riders like us this is an Aniyan ,Remo &Ambi above n below respective rpms
Cone set issues already? Damn.
Yeah the side stand tilt is a bit extreme, I always but it on the main stand, so I did not mention that…
I don’t think 40bhp bikes are good as first bikes for anyone. Low skill, low discipline, high bhp is a recipe for disaster….
I had done 2 offroad trails nt a hardcore however while on slush unfortunately while landing my foot my foot dumped into which led me to drop the vehicle ,only because of Motorque I was saved as well the beast had no bruise or scratches . Aftermath as usual offroads coneset require adjustment thats ok....but service centers am nt satisfied by the way they had fixed it ....after fixing even on normal road bump am getting the hick up from the front end which is not appreciated.....I guess n I wish faulty was due to the fixing done by service guys rather than manufacturing delimma from first batch 😂
@@nitheeshudayan check the handlebar mount bush/washer. That rubber washer has torn for me and now the handlebar gives feedback on hard hits…
Yes bush had been awkward..needed tightening the bolt
I'm 6'2" Weighs around 74kgs
Want to purchase a new bike... Mainly doing city rides and highway touring... A little bit of offroading (10% of the total ride) and my budget is 3.5L ...I'm confused between scrambler 400x himalayan452 and adv390x... Which one would be the perfect pick for me? Need a suggestion
Less off-roading? Scrambler 400x or 390 adv.
Both are good for commute and weekend rides.
For long highway tours - 390 Adv.
These is my opinion based on bikes you shared. Also look at Dominar, CB350, and Vstrom 250.
@@tallguyrides792 as far as I understood u recommend Him452 only if it comes to off roading... right?
@@tallguyrides792 I feel the weight management on Dom400 isn't that good.. it feel quite heavy...
CB350 is a good bike no doubt...comes with a smooth and refined engine.. but 20.7 bhp is too less for me...
Also I don't think Vstrom250 is a proper adventure tourer bike... it's more a city bike with typical adventure looks
Sir do u feel low end torque is deal breaker ,any engine noise tapet noise..so u think it can be recitified after 2nd service any thing which is deal breaker..as i booked this bike but their are many mixed riviews i am tottaly confused
There is no deal breaker in this bike. Overall it is a good motorcycle. Tappet noise is not something I have experienced but that is a case to case issue.
How you like this bike depends on what bikes you have ridden in the past. In the summary I have mentioned it, upgrading from 150 category or old Himalayan? You will love it..
@@tallguyrides792 hehe i am upgrading form bajaj discover 100 cc..but ya i ride miles with 411 ni kmw prosn cons of 411 also but when u ride 411 thats where you start loving about hinalayan..
Great video. Very informative.
How many kilometers have you ridden this bike in total?
Did you notice any abnormal noise from the engine?
I have seen some videos where user are reporting tapet noises, valve noise etc.
Asking this as my bikes delivery is around the corner. Probably 7-8 days from today.
Thank you. Pls do consider subscribing and sharing with your friends.
Total dist - 900 odd kms
Abnormal sounds - no, touch wood.
Bro when did you book it? Asking you to get an estimate period for my delivery
Booked on 26 Dec. (in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh)
In my city, people are getting the deliveries in 40-45 days.
@@vivekmeena9729 damn okay lucky you. Over here in Mumbai roughly 3-4 months and i booked it on 17th December
@@kshitijthakkar9501 The no. Of booking in smaller cities is lesser. At the time of booking, I enquired at a showroom in jaipur, they said they have received 60+ bookings by 25 Dec while at Bhopal showroom booking were only 11, mine was 12th.
Whats up with the rear suspension, is it in the stock setting?
Yep. Its in stock setting and its a bit too soft for me.
How much mileage will we get in city traffic sir
Frankly I don’t check for mileage. But I guess its around 27-30kmpl.
Hi , can you kindly share link to buy crash guard ?
The crash guard is the RE Rally Crash Kit.
Can be ordered at your local RE dealership.
By changing the spark plug can we reduce the vibration
Nope, that’s not how that works.
Bro ,what is your height??
6’4 or 195cms 🙏
@@tallguyrides792it’d seem logical, and certainly very helpful, to include your height (and inseam) in the description of the video or as a pinned comment to keep it easily found. Maybe update your channel name with it too? I watched the whole video and you never stated your height.
Bro I am also 6’4
Which royal enfield bike will be comfortable for me other than himalayan
Himalayan 450, get AOM handlebar as well.Im 6.5 tall as well
How was the bike in bumper to bumper traffic bro
I think it is a pretty good city bike. I just think that because of its size, its a bit difficult to move in and out of traffic. I am yet to get the hang of the length of the bike…
Hit the subscribe button for the shade thrown at jon snow 😂
🤣🤣🤣 best reason to sub ever!
Brother wearing a half helmet how you will get confidence while riding 😉
Own more than one helmet brother. But when the bike shudders when braking at higher speeds, helmet or no, confidence is hard to find.
Surprising, I rode both Himalayan 450 & Adventure 390 back to back and I felt Adv 390's engine is more thrashy compared to the Himalayan. So everyone should take a long test ride and then decide.
Fair enough. The KTM feels vibey at low revs and evens out at high revs (which happens quickly) the himalayan feels smooth at low revs and then gets vibey at high revs… which is the issue.
What is the brand, and where did you buy the handlebar risers?
The brand is Goose Fit. Available at Gthouse.shop for online order!
Thanks a lot. Happy riding!
Any day Adventure 390more relaible and All rounder
Agreed. Had 2020 version for 27k kms.
It is a good video but I am sorry brother, I think your pure honesty, which I like, won't serve you well in the long run. Be flexible and praise more at time to get more views and sponsorship. Or stay how you are and be a beast separate from the powers to be. Your call.
