this is what improv is all about, trying to create a melody within the melody. not like these players of today playing a million notes and saying nothing. you have the right concept
I love your playing Sir!! Loving the tenor so much I'm getting one.... my hubby played sax ...sadly he passed away 2019. He taught me how to play a couple songs before he died but I'm on my own some now still practicing daily and you are truly inspiring me ! Thank you x 😘💖💓
A beautiful tune and well played...brings back fond memories for me...having the privilege to play this with my Tenor sax mentor, Mr Elwyn Wales from Ton-Pentre...xx
Very beautiful, this inspired me to try and save up so that I can buy a tenor saxophone. I love jazz! Although I already play the piano, the saxophone's still an instrument that I've always fantasized playing :) Great interpretation of this beautiful song :D
adamasadamas same here, though im a guitarists still learning jazz theory, but when thats done, I hope I could find somewhere a cheap, maybe a used tenor sax so I could learn it enough to play at some old jazz club. the aesthetics are on point
I'm a guitar player too. And I got a tenor. Well, since I was listening to jazz since I was a child, It's been the best expense I could ever do in my life. Guitar is great, and have a structure and a form that allows you to do endless expressions in a structure (take a look at "God Bless the Child" by Sonny Rollins with Jim Hall @ guitar, it's something crazy). I think they are so different instruments but for this reason give an awesome different point of intending music and thinking about it. Guitar is scheme, technique and touch. Sax is expression and feeling, the approach to a single note can change everything. Two perfectly opposite way and means to build style and sense. And this is great after some 25 years on a guitar, to re-discover music from the start, but you'll do that with expert ears.. amazing. Go out and get that horn, my friend. I bought a studio "Conn-Selmer" Prelude tenor. The best mix between cost and reliability. Just change that awful mouthpiece with an Otto Link or something good...
@@notcharlie7107 Not with a sax. I stuck with a guitar, and played in a jam session this one time though. It was actually really fun, and I'd recommend at least giving it a try
Lovely relaxed feel. Like some of the others who have commented, In my retirement I’m also learning the sax. Videos like this provide so much encouragement. Keep it up🤗
little tip find what mouthpiece and reed work for you dont think for one min youl get the same sound as the next man by using his set up there ismoreto itthan that
lovely tone Ian,love the lilts and the hesitations before you hit the notes and the emphasises on the notes as you rise and then drop off to a lower note fading off as you play the lower notes what mouthpiece and reed are you using Ian.ps...it's a joy to listen to you.do you have the backing track so I could play along,if it's not too cheeky of me to ask!
Very nice sound and kept harmonicaly basic but well measured. I do wish you played the first 16 instead of kind of mixing up part of the second 16 melody in it's place thus loosing the big tension release climax of the whole melody. Lovely feel still.
One of the best interpretation of :Shadow of you smile ! Thank you
SAXLY
Thank you Saxly.

some of the best low note articulations I've ever heard in a performance. You make it look easy!
