According to Wikipedia, "Desafinado", a Portuguese word (usually rendered into English as "Out of Tune", or as "Off Key"), is the title of a bossa nova song composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim with lyrics (in Portuguese) by Newton Mendonça. The version by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd (from the album Jazz Samba) was a major hit in 1962, reaching number 15 and number 4 on Billboard′s pop and easy-listening charts, respectively; their definitive rendering also reached number 11 in the UK, while Ella Fitzgerald's version made number 38. The song was voted by the Brazilian edition of Rolling Stone as the 14th greatest Brazilian song. The song was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001.
When the improvisation begins i start to cry... so free and so close to the original! Thank you so much!
It is amazing. Brazilian congratulations.
What an awesome videos. Im always looking for some entertaining videos on youtube to relieve some stress. What a
great performance Ian . Keep it up . We need this kind of entertainment. Keep in touch my friend.
Its so refreshing to hear a sax player that improvises with feelings instead of all the fancy licks.
I feel the same way, too many people think they have to throw in Charlie Parker or Coltrane riffs to impress. I think the song needs to be honored by playing it with the rhythm, feeling and mood of the writer and the way a player feels when playing.
no words to convey how much I like your sound and the emotions that you convey ... it's fine ... I would very much like to play with you
This is realy my favorite song, ian, your music is the best!! One song more for my playlist, greetings from Colombia ian, love your music.
Yes one of my favourites too. Jobim was such an amazing song writer and in the hands of Getz it became utterly sublime. Great work Ian.
Thank you Marc.
You sound like Stan Getz.
+Robert Actkinson Hi Robert, thanks, I was trying to get close to his tone on this one. He's my favourite sax man I think.
If you do not know what Stan Getz sounds like, this is too scratchy. Sounds like it has been through software effect. Love the playing but it is not smooth. If you tell a musician it sounds terrific what it isn't you are not helping them improve their sound.
CSMedia, if you criticize a UA-cam video for not sounding exactly like the original, you're really being petty. Ian's brand of saxophone/mouthpiece, recording equipment, and notes are not going to be what Stan Getz used. If Robert likes it, who are you to say he shouldn't?
@@hockeyrd99 what the hell you talking about?
@@robertactkinson1138 CSMedia slammed you for liking this video, I stuck up for you. Get it?
