Fun fact: This is the first video that I edited completely using DaVinci Resolve. Hopefully it was seamless compared to Premiere for you regular viewers. 🤓👍
Any issues you ran into? Thinking of making the change.
I am thinking about it too. Will you make a video comparing them down the road?
Name for the series: "Gerald's well done" 😂
I only use Davinci Resolve due to the fact that its free :-) The software has still issues with crashing (mostly when using fusion) or missing optimized media, but i heard that premiere and after effects have the same issues. If you ever find the time it would be great if you can compare your editing effectiveness between Davinci, Premiere and Hitfilm.
I'm with you. I hope to switch in 3 months, when my CC sub is up. No brainer after I buy the BMPCC4K.
Anyone else watch the whole video/s, even if it's something that they aren't in the market for? 😄😄 Here's an algorithm bump, Gerald! Thanks for all your hard work.
Appreciate you doing so. Thanks!
Suggested name for the series: Enlightened Engineering. The Aputure 300d II
I love the 120d II so it's good to see the 300d II match it. My wallet is welded into my safe.
Thanks Gerald. Look forward to the rest of the series.
P.S. the DaVinci edit looked good.
Thanks, Jay! Appreciate that.
The new power supply that clips on a light stand is brilliant. Love that Aputure keeps pushing design and UX!
That kind of Legacy support is hard to come by and keeps me a happy Aputure customer!
Nicely done, Gerald!
Hey! Thanks, Curtis. Appreciate that. :)
Gerald, brother of fluent word, of hugely helpful and reliable info! Thanks so much for the way your videos bless us out here in influencer land. You vids are ones that I always watch and re-watch to the very end. Cheers, brother!
Thank you very much! That's very kind.
name suggestion - I LOVE LAMP -
yes!!!
Series name idea: Design Done Right
Oooh. I like it. DDR. 👌💯
Awesome review. Thanks, Gerald ! (I have the 120D II but I curse myself I didn't buy right away the 300d II.... Sure I'll end up having both soon :p)
*puts phone up to ear to hear the fans* ...
Gerald: THAT CONTROL BOX BY THE WAY
😜😂👍
your reviews are just so well produced, great and nicely done. I would even say slick but just with all the positive meanings of the word! :). Well done!
I think the series name should be "Gerald Gushes" because anything that makes you gush is bound to impress me!
Gerald's Gushers +1
Welldone with Undone
Great video Gerald! I suggest the following: The Craft of Quality or Artisan Engineering.
I really enjoy your videos. They are well done and informative. My only suggestion would be to slow down your talking. Sometimes this makes you hard to follow, and like you're trying to cram too much information into a short space.
This is a big step up from the 300D. I really like the new battery/power supply combo control box and the new app with FX. Many of these new accessories will help improve the original 300D too. Not sure if you can upgrade the brake? Also, you can get a used 300D for around $800 USD now. Wow, the 300D mkII looks better in your side by side with the 120D II. I was really surprised by that. I've never tried to stand on my Aputure cases...Ha. Well, the mkII maybe my next light. It's that good.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Steve! Cheers.
Great video... It should be the first video for the new series: Undone deconstruction of the Aputure 300d II
I have some 120d ii and they are great. Awesome that they made it better for the 300 ii. Love that stand clip and new reflector design.
There are 3 Go-to guys in this field... You, Curtis and Caleb.
Series name? "Let there be lights!"
you're missing potato jet, super funny and smart guy
Definitely: “Undone to Perfection” or “Perfectly Undone” in My opinion in addition to the play on worlds, Undone is a nod to simplicity which is the sole of good engineering. Either way I will look forward to this series as your content my friend is both enlightening and perennial.
Thanks a lot, Robert! Appreciate the suggestion and the kind words. Cheers!
Series name: Nicely UnEngineered (NUE) by Gerald Undone... i.e. NUE Vol.1 w/ the Aputure 300d II LED
Great Job. I love technical information. Though it is a little pricey, it appears to be well worth the investment. I don't mind spending a little more as long it is a quality product. There is great value here since it is very well built and performs well. Thanks for your review.
Thanks, Phil. Cheers!
Really enjoyed your vid man, subscribed! Looking forward to the app-based video! :)
Thanks a lot, Bradley! Appreciate that. Cheers!
Good on ya! DaVinci looks great!! "Perfected, Powerful Performance, designed for the Pro in Mind "
I was actually expecting it to cost about twice what it actually does, so I am very, very pleasantly surprised!
I have a mki 300d, and because the ballast and power housing are separated, I almost always reach for one of my 120dii’s first. I’m excited to try the 300d mkii, because it seems as simple and easy as the 120dii now. It’s a bit bigger and heavier ofc, but that’s no big deal. I was gonna get a second 300d anyways, so now I can a more useful and brighter version instead
Nice! Yeah, I think you'll really like it.
great video - i've worked with this light a few times and still learned something
I hit the like button twice. Thanks for the video.
Gerald’s Great Gear Galore
Good job!
Title: How about Fabulously Lit Up for Big Budgets (FLUBB). 😂
Someday, maybe I too can afford this great light.
Series name suggestion: Fantastic gear and where to find it
GEARald Undone?
Can you charge the batteries with it if you plug it in a socket while the batteries are mounted?
I'd love to get your take on the Godox SL60W.
Other reviews I've read/watched just don't contain the same twist on the information that you do.
You have great practical tips and opinions.
Thx man. :)
Nice video Gerald! Regarding the series name, how about: "Gee, Welldone: Part 1 - Aputure 300d II"?
Series name idea - This doesn't suck!
hey Gerald, quick question, does it charge the batteries whiles it plugged in and being used at the same time? this is kind of important for me, since Im always running and gunning at weddings, sometimes I could be plugged in and change ways out of the blue...
Really well undoned!
Next Intro: A comment Heart be it Undone is as if a winter frozen sparrow falls from its bough
I'm thinking about buying the 120dII but because of this video im rethinking my idea. Would do you guys recommend? 120dII or 300DII ?
How about a name like “Design Redone”. Great channel and content. Thanks
I like that it has the same cadence as Gerald Undone.
Excellent video. Call it Crafty.
Gerald Welldone??
Hi love your videos I was thinking about getting the Amaran 300c I am a small prouction house doing crops interviews and min movie. I have $555.00 USD to spend on a light. I would love to get your opinion on where to put my money there so many choices out there I am going nutsss THXS
gorgeous gear!
"Gerald Geeks Out On Gear"
You're Welcome
Suggestion for a series name: Unobtainium
😜👍
Hi Gerald, could you please suggest something like the Xrite Color Checker Passport but with a more sensitive price? I think that product is good and useful, but I can't help thinking it's disgustingly overpriced (where I live it's more than 150€)... I mean come on...
Again, sorry for this not being related to the video topic, just wanted to ask if you've ever had a look at the Z-Cam E2? Looks really interesting, similar to the BMPCC4K with higher framerates, higher dynamic range, different aspect ratio recording, but no RAW of course.
I'm familiar with the camera, but I haven't had an opportunity to test one. Hopefully soon! 😃
Enlightened is a good name
it should be called D.A.M.N (Devices that are Awesomely Made Now) or if you want to be more family friendly D.A.M (Devices that are Awesomely Made) lol
I'm a true believer that you get what you pay for. Assuming top tier products reviewed for this series will also most likely command a top tier price, how about "Buy Once Cry Once" (BOCO) for the new series name? The new Aputure 300d II is BOCOlicious!! 🤣
I was thinking of buying a 300d until I heard the microphone test of the fans.
it seems like u apply a light audio transition every cut you make, but it does turn down the volume quite a bit. Maybe shorten the duration of the transition?
I do, yeah. I really dislike volume spike on jump cuts so I try to roll them off. I found this to be a bit easier to do in Premiere. This was my first edit in Resolve so I'm still getting the hang of the controls.
Gear Undone 😎
What battery do you recommend to use with the 300D II?
What is that light meter your using with your phone- had a neat looking interface and I've ben in the market for a light meter myself. Cheers! (and I thought this looked the same as your PP edited vids)
Hey! It's not a phone, the meter comes with the touch screen. Here's a link:bhpho.to/2GIKowV
It's the Sekonic C-700. They have a new one now though, the C-800.
And thanks! 😃
I hope the control unit acts as a battery charger when it is plugged in ( similar to the tri 8 )
Nice montage
Could call it Made My Day or something. Approved by Gerald. Or: You Remind me of when I was an inanimate, yet beautiful, object as a kid, kid.
Possible title: Geek out! Le Geek, c'est chic
Really welldone
Which V-Mount battery would you recommend for this light?
Suggest guys best stands for 300d II (i will use Light Dome II as well) + 2 v mount batteries.
Good Design Undone
Cant wait for godox's response to this for us budget filmmaker
which batteries are the best for 300d ii? :)
How about Furn follows function
how it compare to Nanlite 300?
Any one Got Info About What Is A Good Stand For This Setup. I Dont Think Its Included And Seems Like It Could Be Top Heavy. Thank You
Who makes a beauty dish for that monster?
The best bits, or bestbits
Hi. Very very nice video friend! Tks.
#FromBrazil
I just bought one of these, and the hand break on the yoke feels very difficult to tighten down. It’s hard to describe, but you can’t even do a full turn on mine before the handle basically seizes even though the light isn’t tight on the yoke yet. I haven’t even tried to put a dome on it because I’m not sure it would hold. Have you experienced anything like that with this light? Thanks
Are you just asking the same question on every review?
@@glennparker8247 I might have. This was a while ago. I finally got an answer from Curtis Judd. If you’re actually interested in the outcome and not just trolling, the hand break ended up breaking in or loosening after a few more days of use, and it works perfectly now.
Gear AF
The AF, of course stands for Amazingly Fabricated.
How about Made To Last!
Nice one!
What about Tankbuilt?
Suggested name for the series: Good Shit
I just got the 300d mark ii and I keep getting a flicker every now and then?
Do you know what might cause this?
Does it seem like it goes to half power than back to full power? Or is it something different?
@@geraldundone I think it might've been due to an electrical output problem. It seemed to randomly flicker from time to time.
Call the show “FOURM over FUNCTION”
Series name: Spotlight. Haha gettit. Ok bye.
Series name: The Right Stuff Series
Series name: “I really love this light”
Next intro:"let the Mexican living in your head take air time to time; ay Chihuahua!"
Call this new segment, "Beefcakes"
Do you use it with V-lock batteries? I notice Aputure recommends/requires(?) 15A batteries. I have my eyes on 12A batteries as they can be had quite a lot cheaper, like the ones from D&O. Comments on using this, or the 120D II with 12A batteries?
name idea: Quality Craftsmenship
The Already Undone Review Series?
Gerald Done?
Cool. That was some loud music tho
How about "How they made this"
you da best
segment name: quirks for dorks
Get it or forget it
You're fortunate you don't ware glasses - lighting in a variety of situations when you or other talent wares them is just another irritation to deal with ----- sorry for winning ... LOL . - looks like a great light!
Godzilight.
