@@GeorgeZimmermen friend its the most popular ff game now, it has far surpassed ff11. Its also worth noting that besides being MMO's, they are very different games, and as such comparison beyond popularity based off of player numbers is subjective.
@@AquaticFlower2233 could care less how popular it is or how many people play it. Anyone who was around during the FFXI old days knows that experience was special and won’t be replicated by any other online FF. Not XIV or any after.
I partially blame the over-exploitation of Final Fantasy VII on the fans themselves. People gush over the game like it's the absolute best thing ever that can't ever be topped, the same kind of absurd argumentation like Ocarina of Time and Half-Life 2. The games are fine, but they aren't the best ever. There are better open-world adventure games than Ocarina of Time, there are better FPS games than Half-Life 2, and yes, there are better JRPGs than Final Fantasy VII.
I agree, FF7 wasn't even the best FF game on the PS1 nor was it the best JRPGs either.

I hear a similar argument to Final Fantasy Vl and Vll only in reverse as Vll coming out after Vl going 3D overshadowed it.

***** probably just nostalgic appeal. super mario 64 is not much special nowadays, but i still hold it in high regard because it was a large part of my childhood alongside mario party (the latter i unfortunately cannot relive)
Advent Children isnt bad i dont think. Also if youre gonna over saturate something you can do worse than 7. 8 has always been my favorite FF
i always said advent children was not bad and was in fact a very good film and deepened the world of ff7 but I had only seen the complete delux edition or whatever it is called. My little brother has started to get into FF now due to no influence from me, I swear. When he was at the shops he saw advent children on dvd and brought it home but it was the original version and jesus was it just awful, things are out of place the story makes no sense. The complete version reorders some of the scenes and adds 1 or 2 extra but it makes so much difference. The original advent child sucks but the complete version is one hell of a film

A BIG reason that 6 gets so shafted all the time is that it's apparently incredibly unpopular in Japan. 4 and 5 are far, far more popular there, and none of them hold a candle to 7 of course, so Square tends to kind of just... forget about 6 from time to time.

tbf i think they messed up a2 and many hardcore tactics fans think they screwed up a1 lol. So, as far as screwing up it seems every new tactics recruits a new fanbase that get pulled into the originals. from a veteran perspective screwing up seems to be how tactics gets its money's worth.
And then Nintendo comes in all like "Yo dawg I heard you like tactics games so we put Fire Emblem in your Final Fantasy Tactics so we put tactics in your tactics!"

Not remaking Final Fantasy VI on the 3DS or even the Vita is one of the greatest oversights Square has made beyond their teases of mobile games. Just imagine a remastered soundtrack coupled with the visuals of Final Fantasy IV DS but...better plus the bonuses of Final Fantasy VI Advance.

I love FF7 so much, but I hate what they did to Cloud. In the remake, I fear they'll make Cloud too angsty and Aeris too pure and innocent, when that wasn't the point of either character originally. And I love FF8 lol

Ash Brundle Aeris was nice, but she wasn't *just sweet. Aeris had a spunky, sort of rebellious side to her that made her really interesting. She wore pink so you would think she would be sweet and innocent, but she wasn't really innocent. If anyone was the pure, innocent type, it was Tifa

Even in the original Tactics game, there's a lengthy quest to get Cloud for your squad... and you recruit him at level 1, where the rest of your squad is already around 50-70, give or take.

He went from being a dude who suffered from the fact that he was living someone else's life and then feeling like crap once he realized it to, as MANY of his other appearances suggest, the guy who's"(apparently important but too cool to help with much (looking at you Kingdom Hearts) and a complete emotional wreck (actually I kinda blame the vocal majority of haters for that, although movies like Advent children only help their point.)"
I love Cloud in Smash, but he's got a whole different set of problems with the casuals complaining to the FGC that he's too broken, which he ISN'T. He's got blatant weaknesses, and there are more than enough upper-mid to top-tier characters to counter him. Hope we don;t get another balance patch, because seriously SCREW the Smash 4 casuals, the meta is fluctuating WAY too much. If 1.1.6 is the final patch, we can finally establish a consistent growing meta. I've never seen any other fighting game with such a large group of whiners.
I know people hate on the whole (you've gotta adapt, not complain) argument, but when you complain to the point of someone else's favorite character getting nerfed to all high-hell, you can seriously ruin the game for someone. Especially for DLC characters like Cloud, even though it's easy to say that making characters that you pay extra for good like Cloud is just "Pay2Win," but let's be realistic, most people don't buy a product if it isn't good enough. People WANT the extra stuff they buy to be worth the money. I feel like with how all of the dlc characters are right now, they mostly all hit the nail right on the head.

The point is that Cloud is Square's Wolverine. The character they trot out whenever they want to make some money and with little regard as to whether or not it makes sense for him AS a character.
Wolverine is the perfect comparison too, because both Logan and Cloud have a decent amount of depth and a darker toned backstory that works within the context of their source material, but when the characters show up on the next Fruit Roll Up commercial or whatever, those tones have to be jettisoned or kiddified up in ways that just makes them seem ridiculous.

7's shit was terrible
It's because XV was thought and conceived as that, they thought the game/story as a multimedia expansive effort.
FF7 was the story of that specific game, the only cliffhanger was Zack, but he was dead and his role on the story was already fulfilled. Yet they kept making up stuff over it, creating characters that while not bad, simply didn't fit in on the universe they created at the beginning.

Honestly I love Cloud in Smash. I think ever since Brawl, Smash has been this celebration of games as a whole, and having all different characters, especially the third party ones really emphasizes that
I don't mind that Cloud is in Smash, but his appearance in Smash 4 was horrendously annoying to play against and single-handedly killed my interest in the game. Bayonetta was more frustrating, sure, but she at was fun to play and at least provided a cool spectacle even if you were the one getting bodied. Cloud aka Up-Air: The Character was linear, repetitive, and so, so DULL. Just another anime swordfighter with the same disjoint-spacing playstyle, no fun combo potential, and just a couple of flashy charge-up attacks that weren't particularly interesting or novel.
I'm not an FF fan so maybe that's where my difference in opinion comes from, but I enjoy Smash Ultimate considerably more given that Cloud is significantly less prevalent in the player base, and frankly, I consider that reasonable indictment of bad design. I strongly feel Sakurai and company let me down in introducing me to one of the most iconic characters in gaming history in such a thoroughly unenjoyable fashion.

That's one of the use of the vita, I have all final fantasy games from 1 to 10-2 on it, it's pretty cool.

FFV and FFVI deserve more than IoS or android, I don't care if it's a port or remake I would be hyped AF if they were on the 3DS until then I've got DQVII.

A lot of the criticisms of the game I understand, but I don't actually see a lot of them as criticisms personally (like the game being too linear). I didn't find that it was a problem. The characters, the story, and especially the music kept me engaged.

9 is widely considered one of the best if not the best one in the series by most hardcore FF fans.
7 and 10 have the most mass appeal, but Tactics, 6, and 9 are what I see get the most acclaim from diehard FF fans.
Yeah, I don't hear bad things about 9 only good. It's like 4 a great game that's not over hyped. 6, 7 and 10 are so popular they became a cliche. Also, I loved 7 and 10, but they had the worst main characters.

decent game yes, but most people hate on the Junction system
Spending minutes at a time spamming Draw whenever a new magic shows up, often enough that Draw takes up hours of your total game. Casting magic that is junctioned weakens you for the rest of the battle. Switching between the main party and the Laguna party doesn't always carry over the magics correctly so you have to shuffle things around to get things working again.
The story is fine. The rest of the battle system is fine. The world and exploring it is fine. The stat system, magic, and junctioning is annoying to a repeat player, and confusing for a new one.
Also the leveling system. Leveling is outright bad for you, as enemies get stronger more quickly than you do. Playing low level, a challenge in most games, is the correct way to play FF8.
Ugh... you didn't have to draw, just use the function of the summons too convert items into magic. The draw system was maybe for the hardcore to get 100+ ultimas and max everything at the end of the game.
Spamming GF, strong but super time consuming, hell there is even a stupid spell that allows relentless Limit Break.
Albeit that spell only gives you the bare minimum of what would be considered for a Limit Break. Squall usually gets less shots from his Renzokuken when using that spell, meaning he can't use Rough Divide or Lionheart, or at least it's incredibly rare. Doing a legitimate Limit Break often gives you better results.
Seeing Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: No... Don't say anything bad about my baby. Don't say anything stupid about laws and the story is great!!! ... Oh you aren't saying bad stuff about it... Good guy 👍
I love Tactics, but nothing about the FFT:Advanced versions piqued my interest. The whole magic rule system immediately turned me off, to be honest. The thing that made the original Tactics so good was the freedom to do what you wanted and this new bullshit just reminded me of the stupid card game with similar regional rules from FFVIII. Admittedly, I haven't played a single minute of any of the Tactics games beyond the original, so could be wrong. I don't think I am, though. Those mechanics are cheap and ruin the game.

B T - You ARE wrong. It doesn't ruin the game. The Judge system is stupidly easy to get around and doesn't affect gameplay too much (unless you're brain dead and just want to spam the same team over and over without actually thinking about what you're doing... then that's on you). Truth is that they could have removed it and it wouldn't have mattered. That said, it's dumber to use it as a reason not to play the game, even if it's existence isn't needed. Also, your hate of Triple Triad is laughable. It's quite literally the best side side game in all of the FF series.
I think I might be the only person who couldn't stand Tactics... just not a fan of tactical RPGs in any form, really....

And we loved it
Wasn't especially good either, on the whole. The plot was convoluted, the movie was awkwardly paced, and insight on what was going on in the characters' lives was limited and told instead of shown. Also, missed opportunity to bring the band back together in a creative way, pretty much everyone was jobbing for Cloud instead of actually working together, and the fights they did actually do together were disjointed and isolated from each other. They even outright say on the airship "Cloud's got this, we all suck now."
It's only good with the complete version it makes sense. It's not anything amazing, but it's not BAD.

I liked The After Years.
Both are classics, and VII did need a remake more if only because of the graphics and translation of the original game; but that does not excuse Square's inability to provide a definitive port or remaster of FFVI on modern consoles.
V and vi deserve the same quality remakes the others got on psp.
I wouldn't call VII a "good" remake, it's not faithful to the original game in any way, shape, or form. If we got a FFVI Remake where the gameplay suddenly became a hack and slash, the game was split into pieces and padded beyond belief, and Future Kefka suddenly showed up, I think I'd die inside.

@@femcelfootjob Personally, I heavily disagree. Splitting a game up never works, and it just serves to disrupt the pacing of the story. Plus, FFVI is a pretty short game as it stands, and they would need to add a LOT of forced padding to both the World of Balance and the World of Ruin to make them each their own game, and that just sounds like a nightmare. I'd rather just have one perfect, complete game than two parts filled with hours of filler and poorly done new additions.
The last few seconds of this video is what I've been saying my whole life to people about Final Fantasy. Tactics was the reason I got into storytelling, Dungeons and Dragons and currently trying to write my own story/comic / turned based tactical RPG! Thank you for preaching to the masses for me!

Not something like 6 or 9 (nothing will be better than 9), but it was kinda fun. I just think that it doesnt deserve to be at the top of Worst Final Fantasy games so often, since it can be fun for some.
I enjoy 12 to a degree. The gameplay is fun for what it is, and the license board system is something I adore. I still replay 12 every now and again. I think my main beef with it is how uninteresting the world is and how bland the art direction is.

I don't actually hate FF8, but I can understand why people would dislike it, and I'm honestly indifferent to it. It had some neat ideas, as well as amazing FMVs and a kickass soundtrack, but other than that, it was "eh" to me, and some of the gameplay ideas aren't fully realized to the point where it tires me out after just a little bit of time. I've unintentionally lost track of time with other games in the series (9, 6, 7) but 8 just dragged to me.
Hylian Dragoon FF8 was my first major FF game and I say, the game is amazing. I liked the story and Squall was a character that I actually liked.
Interesting how the people who liked 8 tend to really like 13.

I really liked the idea of the Gambit System (heck, you could build an entire game out of that), but _everything else_ never really did it for me, sadly.
I think XII is the best in the series. And I'm right.
Whether you liked 12 or not hinged pretty heavily on whether you could navigate the gambit system. Admittedly, I found that a system that could level up for you while you go do something else is counter-intuitive. I want to play the game, not watch the game play for me.
Naturally similar issues come up with the Paradigm system in 13 which is quite similar, but not at the same extreme. It seems like a logical progression honestly, the changes made in each generation stem from the "problems" found by players in the previous. Looking ahead to 15 it seems like many elements of 12 as well as things from the Kingdom Hearts series will make a resurgence, which could be amazing.

I found the Gambit System quite cool if you sticked to a "Control one guy yourself and let the Gambits control the rest" strategy.
Though you are incorrect in that my dislike for 12 is the result of anything but the Gambits.
No wait, even the Gambits themselves are at fault, at least partially. I mean, why the f*ck do you buy Gambits in dedicated Gambit shops, were everyone talks about how great Gambits are? Unpopular opinion time: I actually like what I have played of the XIII trilogy.
I don't totally like it but i still play it occasionally... it's not terrible. It's not even bad. It's just the slightest bit disappointing because it should have, by all reason, been a bit better written.
And i really liked 8. What's up with the hate for 8? Its combat works just fine and the story has hundreds of awesome moments. Especially when it gets sidetracked onto some tangent. OK, mostly only when it gets sidetracked. It's still great!
Siana Gearz See I think 13 is written well actually. Do not know to much about the other two though. The biggest issue I have is the linearity and how grind heavy it can get. The last couple of times I played it was mostly to get exp lol. VIII I actually liked too. If anything the writing or characters, mostly Squall, are probably the big kicker. Probably the romance too.
Battle system was complete shit. Literally the worst I have ever seen in an RPG. Unforgivable. The XIII line is dead to me.

I think if FF7 had never existed FF8 would be considered one of the best entries, unfortunately coming right after FF7 it was doomed to always be compared unfavorable to FF7, plus the fact that FF7 was the first Final Fantasy game that many people played and who were expecting a direct sequel and were angry that that Cloud and crew were nowhere in sight.

Casshern FF12 was good dont get me wrong. But it wasnt what we were promised (at least me and my friends). It was supposed to be the precursor to Tactics being the golden era where airships flew the skies the zodiac brave stop Ajora combined with the gamelay of Vagrant Story. It wasnt that, slight references were made, Empires that exhisted in 12 didnt explain how they get to Tactics political/religious transition. No explanation why old espers are replaced with new ones and how the old become Lucavi. Where are the warriors of legend? How was the title of judge abolished and become a secular religion? What was the cataclysm that wiped out 50% of all races except humans? So many holes and empty promises that it bored me just to play it. And of course Vaan and Ashe... wtf? So booooring....
Brian Wong So basically, if you were a fan of Final Fantasy and followed it's story religiously, so to speak, it was a disappointment.
But for someone like me who had this as his first Final Fantasy game it's really good. I never could follow the story of Final Fantasy tbh because it's so convoluted so I pretty much just saw the gameplay, which is the greater majority of the game anyway. Story is minimal.

Did anyone play any of the other Crystal Chronicles games? I didn't, doesn't look like many did too, some looked like crap. And I was kind of annoyed this was all Nintendo consoles got from Final Fantasy at the time aside from the odd GBA port or DS remake.
I've never played Crystal Chronicles. When it came out I was confused about it and still am. Was it multiplayer only? how many players were needed? Was it true you needed several Gameboy advances to play it (heard that multiple times but always sounds ridiculous)?
I'm actually really curious as I have a friend that comes over and plays games with me regularly so I would love to play an jrpg with them, just options for multiplayer are highly limited.
sera .phic Yes, it had four player co-op multiplayer, you can play it solo though. And yes, yes, yes, it required 2-4 GBAs for you to play multiplayer. Just like Four Swords Adventures. It was a greedy move of Nintendo to pull off that gimmick unless your friends never stopped playing their GBAs. XD

Cloud in Smash isn't really exploiting ff7, if anything it's the best thing to come from 7's popularity.

Sakurai needed SquarEnix permission so it is there fault. It was also the main reason why Bayo was pick instead since her decision came from a public poll that would determine the last character. Due to not being able to get permission for the 1st place winner, they decided to put in Bayo who was the next closest.
He was a fan favorite for inclusion, if anything the fans are the reason he is there. And honestly there is nothing wrong with that, the character works great in smash and so does characters like Bayonetta.

Yes a lot of the FF7 extras are bad, but there are really good games in there like Crisis Core and the Kingdom Hearts series (( well more a final fantasy mix with disney overall, but still )).
What is positive though which no one seems to think about, SE is at least TRYING new things with their franchises and games, that is why we have stuff like Tactics and the KH series, not to mention the upcoming FF15 which both looks and plays quite well from what I have tried and seen. Not to mention they seem to have put a lot of effort into the story and characters.

I disagree about 13 and X2. X2 had a sweet battle system it was fun. The band wagon bashing on 13 is not very fair i thought the battle system had its moments and the cinematics had me excited back in the day. There were interesting strategies involved. It wasn't the worst final fantasy, it was ambitious.
Paradigm shift + auto-attack, was 95% of the game's combat.

Patrick I agree with you. It wasn't perfect but definitely fun and story had its emotional moments. Music was phenomenal with the best battle theme of the series (my opinion) and graphics were mind blowing. Battle system, while flawed, definitely felt like breath of fresh air. If people don't like this game, that's fine, neither did I. But after giving it a chance and finishing it, I changed my mind.
Ok, i agree that the battle system of X-2 was quite good, but most of the game was just minigames and the characters were sooo annoying (especially brother!)

X-2 is not a real target to bash on. I think it is a spinoff more than anything. Despite that, combat is very good and they brought back the very welcomed job system (dress).
I really hope they don't mess up the ff7 remake, I played the demo it was actually really good and the Guard Scorpion intense I was definitely impressed with that. Sucks we only get the Midgar part but its probably impossible to put the entire ff7 game on one disc with all the detail it will need.

interesting choices, i take it you preffer story over charcter customization, my personal favorite is 5 when it comes to charcter customization, but honest to god, 6's story is such a master piece its my favorite storywise (even though charcters like gau, umaro, setzer and more are pretty much unplayable if you wanna go for efficiency, but FF6 honestly isn't that hard so you can just pick whoever you like in your party)

I found your videos recently with one of your FFTactics VODs popping in my feed and I enjoyed watching it. Your name sounded somewhat familiar though, I later realized I'd noticed it on some videos before but ignored them for the meme thumbnails, as that's what I tend to do. I've now watched some of your FInal Fantasy content and I wanna say that you've done a very good job with them. I think I've found my favorite content creator. :) You're streaming times are when I sleep though, so I won't be getting there...and I do like to watch smaller bits at a time anyway.

There are aspects that I love. Grand Pulse is really fun. The music is great. It is graphically amazing. The combat system was almost great. Since weapons system like FF 9 and 7 would be nice. More variability in game play would have made the first 2/3 tolerable. I actually really liked the story and characters.
I played a but of it and I couldnt finish it but thats because I didnt want it to be my favorite. Because the first one you beat is your favorite. But I do plan on beating it
I liked the characters and it had a story but it was a bad story and I felt like a rat in a tunnel. I wanted the bad guy to win because the god like thing were being enslaved because they were being used like a power plant.

It didn't even introduce me to the series but I still loved it. I even 100% the achievements, which is very very rare for me to do on long singleplayer games. Even put up with the awful performance of the game on PC. That's how much I liked it. Really enjoyed the music, gameplay was super fun, locations were good for the most part, characters were alright, I didn't mind the hallways. Maybe that's why I actually liked it, cause I don't care if there is or isn't a world map or if you just go in a straight line.

8 was boring as fuck. The story sucked, Squall sucked, the whole thing sucked. It was put out during gaming's "I AM SOOO EDGY AND EMO" phase, which sucked and I'm glad it's over with. It has nothing to do with the junction system.
Mini rant: While I do prefer the old school ones (1-6, and 9 to a certain extent) over the new school ones (7,8,10-15), I do appreciate the 3D ones for what it is, and have played all but the MMOs and 15. However as of late, I've grown tired of the pretty boy, spiky hair, emo,anime, and melodrama tropes that the series has been doing more and more of since FF7. Will it kill Square Enix and Tetsuya Nomura to harken back to the medieval style of the earlier games in a new numbered installment? Why is it that almost every turn based JRPG that comes out now minus a few like the Bravery games and Dragon Quest, always gotta have these cliches? People complain about western styled games having nothing but a mid 40s white guy with a beard, but the Japanese games as of late is just as guilty. Like Jared says, ,the constant milking of FF7 for what its worth, as well as the fanbase is why I'm not fond of the game as much as I use to. I guess you can say in a nutshell FF7 fanbase is to Ocarina of Time's fanbase, where anything before those games automatically gets trashed because its not in 3D. The same fanbase has also bled into Kingdom Hearts as well, I think it's just some sort of fetish for Nomura. These same people will not touch Chrono Trigger, Mana series, etc. which is sad. But they'll be the first to claim to know everything Square and Final Fantasy when all they've played is pretty much 7, 10, and 15. I still wished for a FF character to have been in Smash that has actually BEEN on a Nintendo console instead of Cloud since he's mostly a Playstation charater, but I guess money talks. Not even Nintendo is safe from it.

I gotta say I’d rather play FF all the bravest over FF 15 any day. Atleast all the bravest is a phone app game not meant to be taken serious in the slightest but in FF 15 a mainline FF game where you’re expecting a premium only for it to suck and be incomplete is just unforgivable
I like Advent Children, and the XIII games.
Advent children was okay. But.YOU.CAN'T.BE.SERIOUS.ABOUTFF13! IT SUCKED(13-2 was meh) AND 13-3... AGH! I stopped playing it after two weeks and sold the game.

Advent Children is a guilty pleasure of mine. Yeah, I also wasn't fond of the whoring out of Final Fantasy VII (and ONLY VII, 'cause let's all forget the 6 games, some arguably better, that came before it), but I honestly enjoyed how the movie was done. Granted, it's probably because it had Spirits Within to compare to, but it was interesting to me how they stuck to a lot of game mechanics and made all the characters seem ridiculously super-powered, like you could actually believe that these were the same people who defeated Sephiroth a couple years prior. The Last Order anime was pretty decent too. Other than that, though, I agree that the compilation of Final Fantasy VII was a whole was pretty awful.
Also, don't you think you're being too harsh on The After Years? Granted, I still have yet to play it myself, but I hear it's alright, especially so far as Final Fantasy direct sequels go (considering what other games got sequels, that's saying a lot). I'm assuming you might have a point about retreading too much stuff from the original (whether it crosses the line between retro throwback and lazy rehash, I'd have to judge for myself), but even so, I don't think it's fair to rate it as being a worse fuck-up than The Spirits Within (which is believed to have bombed so badly, it's what caused Square to merge with Enix), the aforementioned compilation of Final Fantasy VII, and mobile Final Fantasy V and VI. Seriously, that's low.
Same here. I'm glad they came out with a complete version which answered a lot of questions the original one left unanswered, especially with Denzel, but I love that movie.
The problem with After Years is that even putting aside the rehashing of FF4's plot, a lot of its game mechanics and secrets are VERY impossible to find without a guide and its massive cast of new characters is superfluous at best, and a lot of the old characters are made out to be gigantic idiots, ESPECIALLY Rydia, which really puts me off given she's one of my favorite characters from the original.
