Thanks for the video! I've just received my first box of UV resin today. Will experiment a bit, but you were the inspiration for getting it. Thanks! Hope you're well.
Hi Daniel! I always 👍 and watch to the end! I watch on tv so don't usually come online to comment, BUT today I did. 😁 Wanted to suggest that on the large Seahorse, you talked about the sharp spine points. I would say attach small tapering sizes of pearl or "seed beads" to accentuate those spines (and solve the sharp points). Make a beautiful brooch with the large one! Keep up the great work, I enjoy your channel!
I had that seahorses mould, you can glue them together back to back and make a 3d sculpture....Maybe even with a layer of flakes inbetween the 2 halves
Thank you to the two viewers for these wonderful techniques. I learn so many great things on your channel Daniel. Well I learn so much from all of the creators I follow. Thanks so much. 💗
This helps me so much. I do exclusively UV resin and the whole curing for few seconds thing is stressful. This is much less stressful!! Thanks to those who shared it with you so that you could share it with us!! :)
Beautiful! I don’t understand the non-thumbs up watchers. Honestly, I thumbs up before I finish watching videos if it’s a channel where I always learn something. Blows my mind when I look at the views to 👍🏻 ratio. Also, your resistance to “game-changer made me giggle”. I support you 100% on that. 🤣 Love the finished seahorses. Thanks for showing up and showing us new things.
You always make something incredible Daniel, I love your videos. I was thinking a lot about who you remind me of and I figured it out the other day! You're the Bob Ross in the resin art world 😊
They turned out beautifully! I can totally see those being glued together, since they're opposite sides, and made into window decoration using transparent colorings, like 3D stained glass almost!
Hi Daniel, love your vids, to get multi layering with the technique your using try using Speedball metal foil adhesive with a brush it is extra sticky, dried clear, it layers mica powder beautifully with out the fear of muddying your colours, you can control where it goes and a lil bit goes a long ways.. I use it all the time to coat my wood shapes with mica powder and coat with resin and it stops my wooden shapes from absorbing too much of the resin, it also gives resin a surface to bond with if you want to dome. Word of warning, be sure to clean your brush immediately after or you will ruin your brush, I just use disposable eyelash adhesive brushes.
I keep a flat profile container with about a half inch of sand or clay to rest my items in that are not level, that way I can get them level before adding backing or a thin layer.
Oh, shoot, I recommended that...I should've read all the comments, first! Oh, well...at least another comment will help with the algorithm, right? Yes, Dan, creators have been using that alc/powder paste for awhile now, BUT...! They coat their molds with the paste before pouring their resin. They *don't* coat their finished product using paste, so far as I've seen, so you're still doing something unique-ish? 😁👍
I love how they turned out and would back them with black. The detail of the mold is stunning Daniel and good choice for the video. I run over here to watch the video soon as I saw the post IG. Good marketing sir!!!!! 💜👑
Those came out great! Thank you to whoever figured this out, shared the ideas and Daniel for demonstrating it. Now my smaller fondant molds won't be sitting there with me trying to figure out what to do with them!
I saw someone resting theirs on a bed of rice to level them. Don’t ask me where because I’ve been watching all day. Just stop when I see something interesting. 😊
I havent tried it yet but i was going to try this with guilding adhesive. Its usually used to gold leaf almost anything. I cant remember if I've used it on something with a gloss surface, may need sanding. I definitely should test it out
These are stunning layered pieces, with sublime colour definition, and perfect release from the moulds. The delicate flex of the pieces as they released from the moulds indicate a clean pour, and just enough curing. You can always do more curing if it is too sticky…but you can’t work it the other way around. Do you ever get a proper sleep? I am a silver and goldsmith, using precious gems in many of my pieces. I no sooner close my eyes, and enter a light sleep pattern, than ideas crowd my mind…sometimes I have to get up right then, and find my studio, or I won’t sleep at all. I stand amazed at your skill and determination.🖤🇨🇦
For your stencil idea. you could get a misting spray bottle and spray on the alcohol and let dry, peel off the stencil, and then add the dust on the powder. I'm going to give it a try, but my videos are on wire wrapping. Evan though i do make cabochons sometimes .
That's a neat trick! 😃 As isopropanol alcohol is so expensive I have been experimenting with an old bottle of high ethanol hand sanitizer for mica painting. I need to try it with this as well!
Daniel this video just triggered something for me! Okay if you remember a while back Claire did a video on clear stickers being visible in resin and you had suggested to me to try to take off the backing first and I tried that and it was still visible but what if we dusted the back of the stickers?!? Oh and try foil adhesive then dusting the backs! It works like a dream on cured resin! Beautiful results! ❤
@@melhaury I usually use one thick coat of the artistic painting studio brand and it works great! But alcohol is easier because you don't have to wait for it to dry before adding the pigment to the piece but I do think you would get a better coating all over with the foil adhesive.
I use gilding paste Daniel. A thin coat and the flakes go on beautifully. It does remain a bit tacky, however, if you're backing it, that shouldn't be an issue. Thanks, V
I recommend getting a fine mist spray bottle for your 99.9% isopropyl alcohol. The reason the alcohol doesn’t work for epoxy is that it breaks down epoxy. Instead of making it tacky, it slowly dissolves it.
Michelle from glitz and glitter had used tack it let it dry and used flakes to fix a mistake and then does it intentionally to finish a certain mold. Nice to know about the alcohol too!
I work with UV resin, and I recommend trying alcohol wipes / pads, I get them at costco here in the US - they’re heavily saturated, (like for cleaning an area of skin before getting an injection / immunization) so might work better than the paper towel method! Thank you for your videos and ideas! Cheers! Happy crafting!
A light brushed on coat of acrylic clear will remain a bit tacky for long enough to do what you want and dried acrylics are perfectly compatible with resins. Sanding before the coat of acrylics is good too.
I have several Seahorse moulds, including this one. I love the effects on the Seahorses, they are beautiful. I also use Isoprol with mica's & turn it into paint, to paint my moulds, it gives beautiful effects too. 😊❤
I do this on my uv gel nails. However I flash cure, add the powder then full cure. The flash cure would partially set the back of the seahorse making it sticky. ❤️🇦🇺 they look lovely 😊
Wonderful work as always. As for backing things another thing I’ve seen in the past is someone mixed some mica powders in to a few drops of alcohol and just used that as a paint. I’ve tried it and it did work with epoxy resin as well as helps when painting a mold when the powder doesn’t want to stick or just not building up enough on the surface.
So um, with those fondant molds, I mean there's no set rules per say, but they have doubles for a reason, so you can put the two halves together to make a whole sea horse if you want. Or leave it flat to put it more flat on a cake. But yeah personally I use the Falken to paint the actual mold before I epoxy and the textures and different colors are just phenomenal doing it like that bc the epoxy picks up the flakes leaving less to pick up. But love your vids. I always learn something new. Thanks for posting!
Hi, you can lay them in dampened magic sand, which will support them without risk of wobbling or falling. If you pack it tightly around, even the small ones will not leak around the edges when you put the backing layer on.
Hey Daniel, ha! I feel all famous now lol I wish I could tell you where I saw the tip for the alchol spray, but me and my menapausal brain are sitting here going...errrmmmm...🤔 so sorry, if I come across it again, I'll let you know. These look so good, I've had plenty of trouble getting UV resin to cure in these types of moulds, I think I've mentioned it before, but I don't have the beast and not likely to be able to afford one anytime soon. So now I give them a really thin coat and cure, another coat and cure..etc etc, it's loooonnng, so I avoid if possible. You said you couldn't make the hack work on epoxy, I have, but I didn't rub with the alcohol, I sprayed it, got it wet basically. Maybe give that a try. Great vid as always x
I had an issue the other day. So I tried dipping my brush in a bit of UV resin, then dip it in the flakes and it went on lovely…the finish looked very nice! It was very intense and not thin & patchy like with the alcohol.
I literally did this while watching your video and the alcohol works great thank you! And a big thank you to whoever the idea came from too. Thanks for sharing this with us it’s helped me already 😊
These are amazing Daniel! ❤❤❤ I love watching you and all of your experiments. You could put just one side with color and resin the two sides together to make whole seahorse. I have this particular mold in my cart and now know what I am going to do with them. Thank you for sharing all of your work!

Hi Dan love your honesty 😂😂😂😂 Thanks for all your experiments, just brilliant 👏👍I've only actually been experimenting with UV resin...an accidentally bought the same make of mold as u and thought damn I can't use😮😢But I'm going to give it a go 👍 THANKS
Great Video Daniel 👍 I have this mold and have used it a number of times but not this way so i will try it.
Those little ones you made could be put in another jewellery mold with a nice background so that they don't catch on things.
Love this technique 🤩
Thank you 😁 Great idea 💡 🤩
