Gardening is also more than growing food to me too. I consider it one of the best forms of therapy out there. This February, my younger brother Andrew died by suicide. He was my second brother to die that way. Gardening has really helped me cope with loosing both of my brothers.
My condolences friend... I know how it feels, been through that...just stay strong the pain will fade with time. It gets easier year by year....I’m sending my prayers🙏🏻
Oh James, your place is beautiful! Where I am at which South west Texas and by now everything is done Really, plus how to prepare the dirt and etc. We grow okra by the bunch that's for sure lol. It's all good. We got two seasons a year. Thank you for the info.! Love it!
When I learned to quieten my mind decades ago, I began to feel the garden- the plants, the native creatures, insects. There's an amazing energy I feel when I touch the soil. Nature speaks to us and teaches us when we put our love into the soil and treat her with respect. **I give my chickens a purple cabbage to play with & eat. They left me the prettiest turquoise manure!! Thanks for another superb video!!

I was raised on a small Farm in Ohio, our Dad was a Nurseryman for 55 years at Spring Hill Nurseries. I was a Nurseryman for 20 years. First in Ohio then in California. At 65 years old I HAVE to grow things. It’s like it’s in my DNA. Cheers James. Love the Videos and of course Tuck.
This may be my first youtube comment ever! James you inspired me to start my garden last November and it has been an awesome adventure for my family and I! Love your positive vibes and updates. Hello from Georgia!
It was Masanobu Fukuoka's "One Straw Revolution" that got me interested in growing *with* nature, instead of fighting her. I didn't actually become a gardener, though, until I realized how outrageously priced leeks are (bad case of sticker shock for me!) and I thought I'd try to grow my own. Haven't looked back, and every growing season we do a bit more, grow a little more, grow at least one new variety of something.... Gardening is such a tonic and a balm to the spirit! Thanks for posting your videos, James, and may your garden continue to bring you peace and joy.
Your garden forests is amazing Those cucumber and tomatoes 🍅 are huge....well done your living my gardening goal, can’t wait to see my garden like that in a few years love your mindset 💚💪🏾👍🏾.
The part when you said, "It's everything I hoped it would be," made my heart smile so big. You really should be proud of what you've created; It's just wonderful. I hope to get started on something similar someday soon. I'm actually in negotiations right now on a little quarter acre spot that has so much potential, and I'm so thankful for your having put so much into this channel. I've learned so incredibly much, and gleaned so much inspiration, and probably wouldn't have had the guts to go for it without you and a handful of other channels. Thank you, James. Hi James, I have to say you are part of the reason I am inspired to start replanting my garden and turn it into a food forest. I live in sub-tropical Northern New South Wales, Australia. I live on a 125 Acre farm which we returned to rainforest 30 years ago, with very little land available for food production except for bush tucker (ever tasted Davison Plum Jam ?) . I do have a small citrus grove and a raised area which is above floods. Back in February this year I started a veggie garden again in hugel kutlture beds because my soil in that section is total clay. I have to say I have had brilliant results so far from this method. In the past I grew only in containers and have had various gardens which have been destroyed by neighbours cattle disappearing with snow peas on their horns up my drive way, flood and drought and total despair. You have shown me many ways I can rethink my approach with wood chip etc. Thanks to you and Tuck I am on my way to a "food forest paradise". Many thanks and blessings, Muffy from Oz.
Agreed! I think it's because we have been created by God to enjoy His wonderful creation. There must be a reason why God could have put humanity anywhere, yet He chose the garden: "Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it." - Genesis 2:15 Gardening is so incredibly profound. Watching plants grow and eventually bear fruit, helps us to understand how Jesus Christ works in us to bear fruit of the spirit. God bless you all
I love watching James with his skills and positivity and Tuck, with his adorability. I do always wonder who is on the other side of the camera. Probably because my husband works in film and television and so I think that way. But I also understand and appreciate privacy and needing to keep some life separate from your channel. Thanks for the great viewing and advice!!!
I absolutely LOVED the quotes! DEFINITELY going to add them to my "quote book." It still amazes me just how much Mother Nature can inspire us beyond the garden. How many small things do we do in the garden that we can apply to the rest of our lives as well?!! I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 6 years ago. I was able to convince my boyfriend (after MUCH debate!) to help me build 6 raised garden beds on his family's 100 acre farm. The peace and joy that I've been able to get from growing things (stress triggers my tremors), the teaching opportunities I've had with my sons, not to mention the physical labor to help keep me strong have all been blessings beyond the harvest we are just now starting to enjoy! (We just harvested our first 4 Serrano peppers tonight with more on the way! WOOHOO!!!) I just ordered seeds to start a "fall garden" in 2 beds that didn't go "as planned" and I can't WAIT to see what fall will have in store for us! Keep up the AWESOME videos! You're enthusiasm is absolutely infectious! P.S. You should get a jacket for Tuck that says, "Garden Security!" hehehe Then, when you take him out, you can claim that he's a "service dog!" (jk)
I honestly agree with the concept that as as the garden grows you essentially grow with it. Especially how we as human beings now go by everyday ignoring those simple things in life.

Garden goals!!!!!! Just returned home from vacation and I had a good harvest of cucumbers and tomatoes! Such a feeling to walk outside and pick your own food!! 🙌
Your garden makes me feel so happy and inspires me! I just rent now but experimenting with growing what I can, it's so much fun learning. I totally agree with you about 'being a gardener' this is who I am, I feel like I'm learning from my garden and it's a lot more obvious now what things work and don't work and why! One day I will have a garden as large and diverse as yours that will totally sustain my household, I can't wait! Thank you!!!
Hey dude. You don’t need bird feeders, you need bird a BATH. They don’t like to eat the tomatoes. They are just thirsty. Hope this helps! Your garden is amazing!
You’re growing things I never thought you could in N.J.. I live on Long Island, so we probably live in the same gardening zone , which is 7. You inspire me to grow things I never thought I could. I should branch out a little more. I’m really impressed. Thanks, and keep those videos coming please.
If someone doesnt know what to do with a persimmon.... juice it and fill up ice cube trays..... they are amazing to throw into a smoothy later. Taste like a cross between a peach with honey. Lovely addition to a carrot/ginger based smoothy. And thank you James for the prior video on making a raised bed of wood pallets. I have save that one for reference in the future.
Love your personal development and positive attitude. I’m a new veggie gardener and love learning from your experience. I used to live in nj so I’m partial to watching. 😇
I’m elated to have found your channel. Thank you for sharing all your experiences (the good, the less good), energy and enthusiasm, knowledge and insights. As a complete newbie, I’m eating it up and am transitioning our old mini pasture into a food garden. This is through your influence! I was wondering if you would make a video based on your favourite gardening books and why they are your favourites. (Most inspiring, thought provoking, wisdoms, honest approaches, beginners guides, most useful and knowledgeable, basic “how to”, etc)
Love your attitude! Love your spirit! Love your pups, Tuck! Liking the new titles. Keep on, keeping on! You are such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing. GOD is with you!
Thanks again for a great video. When I see problems arising in the garden (or in life), I seek out solutions. They are my learning experiences, and I hope to share with others. Life is a learning experience. Never stop learning❣
Thank you for the inspiration! Your food forest in incredible! A dream! My little garden here in Northern NJ has been overwhelmed w cucumber beetles. All your cukes look amazing! I’m just going to try planting again. Problem turned into a solution!
You are one of the #SonsOfAdam... You are not just tending the garden brotha' you are teaching life lessons for those who need a roadmap to success!!! You speak like a prophet!!! Be blessed...
Y'know I definitely have to agree with your first point about size of the plants and harvests doesn't really matter. This is my first spring growing some tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, and pepper from some seedlings that my aunt gave me. It's been such an interesting process just watching them grow and learning about what it takes to take good care of them. So much, that when we first started I told my sister that even if we didn't get any fruit, that it would still be an enjoyable experience keeping the plants alive and healthy. Now, after continuing with that mindset, we've been getting awesome little tomatoes close to every week, and our zucchini is trying to grow 2 at the same time, for the first time that I've seen. If you focus more of the plants themselves and care for them, the fruits and harvests will come. Put your energy into them, so they can produce for you!
DAANG JAMES LOOK AT THE JUNGLE YOU'VE GOT IT'S TOTALLY AMAZING AND TUCKER THE PIRATE DOING ITS THING WHERE'S ME EYE PATCH😂 I'M GLAD I SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL A WHILE BACK LET'S DO THIS
Your garden results do look pretty amazing!! I love the confidence and positive attitude! also a huge fan of Masanobu Fukuoka, excellent quote about natural farming as the perfection of human beings. Good stuff man, happy gardening!
Your videos are very inspirational. Your positive philosophy on gardening, and joy being a gardener really helps me in thinking about why and garden and how I should. Love Tuck as well!
Thank you for making your videos about gardening and ways to learn from you, your successes and failures. At this time, it's what I want to hear. Helps to take my mind of the current situations. Be safe and stay well, Catherine
Thanks James Prigioni! Your veggies and fruit trees are really producing with all of your loving care. Tuck has an amazing pallet..Everything about your show today was amazing.
Thank you for bringen such PURE JOY and EXCITEMENT to UA-cam. I really enjoy watching your content. I have been so upset because alot of my tomatoes have blossom end rot and I have been really disheartened. However I think I know why this has happened and I was not creating the right conditions for my little toms. Next year I can take care of them properly :D My Food forest has a Long way to go but you are a fantastic Inspiration!! Greetings from Austria :)
Every time you start a video with that Jersey Greeting my habitual response is "who is that guy picking a fight with me" then you talk about Gardening and I am reminded you are one of us (Gardener/homesteaders). That Jersey Body Language can be a bit aggressive but you are one cool dude and I love watching your videos, say Hi to Tuck for me.
@@juneshannon8074 Its not a maturity thing, its a cultural thing. One of the reasons why I like this channel is because it gives me a chance to relate to someone from NJ. NJ Culture is different and I have struggled to get along with people from NJ because of it. I watch this video and I see I actually have a lot in common with someone from NJ now. I helps me to overcome any bigotry I have towards people of that culture.
The Amazing Secret Behind James Prigioni's Garden: (spoiler alert) It's JAMES PRIGIONI! Great work, man. I also enjoyed reading Fukuoka. Re-read the One Straw Revolution on a flight to Indonesia last year.
Just found you and Tuk and I'm hooked. This is my second garden year and I'm learning so much!! I check my garden every morning and night it's weird but I do get that feeling of excitement and peace especially through the insanity of these times...
Thank you so much for today's video James. Very meaningful! I do have a question. I normally practice companion planting and a bit of crop rotation. In a food forest with the woodchips building such rich soil do you think there is a need for crop rotation? For instance, would you plant your tomatoes in the same area as last year? I'm already taking notes and planning for next years perennial planting but want to keep space in mind for annuals. Thank you again for bringing so much to the table and such a thoughtful perspective to gardening! Love to Tuck!
Your videos are so relaxing and hopeful. I am new to gardening and cabbage worms killed my broccoli and borer worms killed my zucchini. I had absolutely no idea these things existed. I was so grossed out and felt very defeated. BUT watching this video I understand now I have to grow as a gardener. I will keep trying. “I am the designer of the garden” Next year I am more the wiser because of my experiences this year. Thank you!!
@@tribulation138 Women eat too, no? 😁 Just explain that you are feeling called to be a good steward with the land you've been blessed with, and be sure to throw her favorite foods in the mix.
you are living my dream James , you are my inspiration , when i first saw you on youtube last year , i fell in love with the idea of food forest and i started saving money to buy a small land (about 1/4 of an acre) and i will definitely set up a food forest like you did. i am half way there on money :) wish me luck :)
You have a precious dog. I have one like your dog and mine is smart and precious like yours. I love seeing your dog in the garden eating and pulling up his vegetables. He is so sweet. Your videos are really good. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
The plants know how to grow , they have been doing it before we were around ,so its often a matter of staying out of their way and just seeing what assists them
James! I am so excited about your gardening mindset, your great attitude and the motivation you have provided me to grow my own. I am growing in a really tough, dry, high altitude area and have been experimenting with placement of items as none of my land gets full sun all day. that has actually been a blessing. though I have blocked the deer, rabbits, bear; I was fighting the chipmunks, MICE, squirrels and (took me a while to notice this, birds!) What I have found that works the best for most of them is using toile (pronounced tool). everything that i covered has been growing well, the inch next to the edge of the toile has been decimated! try it! it has worked over my fruit trees, green veggies etc.
I moved away from the tri-state area about 10 years ago. And for some reason watching your vids just reminds me of home so much! So thanks for that lol!
I so agree with you James!❤ Love you both. The garden is the gift that keeps on giving to those who understand this very principle! You are a wise one indeed.
I've been lurking a while, but finally subscribed. I'm stuck in a huge city with a tiny 4x4 plot that is not allowed to have heights over 5 feet. I built, out of old bed slats, and other scrap one by twos- thrown away, a small green house to the height limit and I covered it with pool thermal covering which is basically a super strong bubble wrap. I leave it up all year because I have no place to store it, were I to remove it for summer. I roll up all the sides however and find I still get significant diffused light and a bit of shade due to the wood structure. I removed all of the crappy soil provided (from the dump recycling -full of plastic and who knows what) filled it with logs and branches then a bunch of nitrogen rich compost then put the soil and some Ollas, to hold water for root watering, back into the raised bed, I keep as much mulch as I can find on top. It is frustrating that my complex has so much empty lawn space that we are not allowed to utilize (and if we did, some loutish beings would likely ravage it, as I said, I am in a huge city), and my balcony is complete shade, I mean less than an hour of sun for the entire day. Indoor growing with lights does not seem to be working and I'm not sure why. I do have baby citrus trees, and cherry trees and chestnut trees and champagne grapes, that never get any bigger because I have no where appropriate to put them. I have been trying my best to grow my food, but it is difficult in a culture like mine. I have always been interested in permaculture principles, from a vegan perspective, and geothermic greenhouses. I have ideas that we could break up huge mono cropped farms and animal ag farms into smaller sharecropper plots, utilizing greenhouses, food forests, water reclamation, and re-wilding areas. Sure there would be challenges but I think they can be overcome. I love Masanoba's book. I need a new one because I have read it so much and lent it so much and at some point I lost track of it. I had a slug "problem", but I collect them and move them to places where they eat and cause no harm, at least 20 meters as they can return otherwise. I don't like killing things then using copper around plants. Nice channel. Thanks.
See, now this is why you're different. Your channel is far more than gardening. Plus, the fact that you're honest about the failures and missteps just seals the deal for me. Excellent work, as always! So, who's the other half of the "we?". Can we learn about the camera person too? Do they help in the garden as well?
I know I'm late to this vid but what you said about having new eyes really resonated with me as a (novice) forager. I can walk into any local field or wood and know so many secrets and have to many friends known only to a few. It's an honor. Someday I hope to both have a contained manmade garden and a food forest based in native/naturalized plants (muscadine grapes, dewberry, cleaver etc.--I'm in the deep deep South climate wise)
Gardening is also more than growing food to me too. I consider it one of the best forms of therapy out there. This February, my younger brother Andrew died by suicide. He was my second brother to die that way. Gardening has really helped me cope with loosing both of my brothers.

This has to be one of my favorite videos. I love your gardening philosophy while you harvest throughout the video. Keep rocking brother.
Tiny Tuck looks like a darling plant at the start of this video...I would love to grow that certain plant..he certainly made my day 😊
You are a fountain of knowledge for all types of veggies and fruits. It's my third year growing, and i definitely agree, growing is much better.
It's not how much you harvest, but who you have become. Amazing.
I'm inlove with cucumbers, my favorite. My eyes is turning to a heart shape,
interesting...
Wow man you are really embracing the natural balance of life
Thank you for the inspiration! Your food forest in incredible! A dream!
My little garden here in Northern NJ has been overwhelmed w cucumber beetles. All your cukes look amazing! I’m just going to try planting again. Problem turned into a solution!
Love Tuck it is so great seeing him in the garden. Your videos are amazing and the beginning is just fantastic!!!!!!
Another great episode James Love the philosophy of gardening so many people miss out on it.
He's dangerous
Oh my god I love watching your garden name keep it up
You are one of the #SonsOfAdam... You are not just tending the garden brotha' you are teaching life lessons for those who need a roadmap to success!!! You speak like a prophet!!! Be blessed...
Tuck!!!!! Love you two! ❤💕❤ thank you for all the info you share, James! You have helped me soooooo much! ❤
It's not what you get, it's what you become! Loved that!!!
I love how your dog helps with the gardening - it almost like he knows what he's doing!
DAANG JAMES LOOK AT THE JUNGLE YOU'VE GOT IT'S TOTALLY AMAZING AND TUCKER THE PIRATE DOING ITS THING WHERE'S ME EYE PATCH😂 I'M GLAD I SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL A WHILE BACK LET'S DO THIS
Your doggy is cute and what I love about him is the way he harvest carrots for himself and enjoy that carrot like it's the last one he gonna get
Your garden results do look pretty amazing!!
I love your food forest. Interested in growing grapes. Do you have a more detailed video on proper planting location & how to choose varieties?
Thank you for making your videos about gardening and ways to learn from you, your successes and failures. At this time, it's what I want to hear. Helps to take my mind of the current situations. Be safe and stay well, Catherine
very cool we are all learning every year.
Yup!
Thank you so much for your love of gardening you are a gift
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS another video!
Thanks James Prigioni! Your veggies and fruit trees are really producing with all of your loving care. Tuck has an amazing pallet..Everything about your show today was amazing.
Can I getta Woot! WOOT!.....The electric company brought me a load of wood chips!!! I am so excited 😁
That's awesome! Did you just call them and ask?
@@jakem9300 YES!
John Liberty too aggressive for me. I find it immature and annoying, but I overlook it, as I do learn bits and pieces of gardening.
Always inspired by James' and Tuck's enthusiasm, practical advice, abundant harvests! Thank you!
I love it James! Keep up the good work. :)
Thanks Jerrad 😁 🙏
Wow beautiful like'full my friend good whatching work 😁💪🤝
The Amazing Secret Behind James Prigioni's Garden:
(spoiler alert)
It's JAMES PRIGIONI!
Great work, man. I also enjoyed reading Fukuoka. Re-read the One Straw Revolution on a flight to Indonesia last year.
No. It's TUCK!!!!
@@sparkythesecretsquirrel4013 🤗🙋♀️😂♥️
Pro tip: you can watch series on kaldroStream. I've been using them for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Ares Micah Yup, I have been watching on kaldroStream for since november myself =)
@Ares Micah Yup, I've been watching on kaldrostream for months myself :D
THIS IS THE UA-cam CHANNEL I NEEDED ABOUT GARDENING!
Let’s Gooo!!!
Wow, that's deep. I thought, it was going to be wood chips. :).
Gotta keep you on your toes lol
Same!!! Lol
Thank you!!
Not gonna lie.....I'm jealous of that food forest 😂
It's my inspiration. :)
Meeee tooo
I have the land to do it. But my wife😒
@@tribulation138 does she not want one?
@@tribulation138 Women eat too, no? 😁 Just explain that you are feeling called to be a good steward with the land you've been blessed with, and be sure to throw her favorite foods in the mix.
you are living my dream James , you are my inspiration , when i first saw you on youtube last year , i fell in love with the idea of food forest and i started saving money to buy a small land (about 1/4 of an acre) and i will definitely set up a food forest like you did. i am half way there on money :) wish me luck :)
The size of those cuces omg I live watching this
You have a precious dog. I have one like your dog and mine is smart and precious like yours. I love seeing your dog in the garden eating and pulling up his vegetables. He is so sweet. Your videos are really good. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
we have to change the speed to .75 so we could actually hear you.. speedy gonzalez!!!
Cocaine!
Ha! I’m from jersey and always watch him 1.25 speed 😁
🤣
He talks so fast, I can barely understand him. I’m from Nashville & we talk slooooow. 😂
Joni Hughey , my coworker from California moved to Alabama. He said they speak super-slooowww !
Getting addicted to your episodes! Such enthusiasm for growing food and love for your doggy companion is very infectious. Thanks.
Comments before watching: "Tuck, gotta get a Tuck for a successful garden." Lol
You are such a fresh air to listen to and learn from. Thank you. God is good.
James, Are you familiar with Baker Creek Rare Seeds? They are located in Mansfield, MO Check them out, if you haven't heard about them. Love Tuck!!
Yup, that's where I get a lot of my stuff Dina. Great suggestion!
Baker Creek is Awesome;!!
They have their own UA-cam channel as well. I find it quiet insightful! I have a handful of Favorites. James might be the top of the list tho!
I love seeing you harvesting and Tuck enjoying the harvest.
I agree when you planted some seeds its like you waiting for a present and happy to see the first shoot comes up.
Thanks.
I am also growing Armenian cucumbers, and they are taking their time ripening, so it's encouraging to see that they should produce well.
I love, love, love your garden ❤️🌱🌿 thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and knowledge and letting us see your garden and for Tuck ❤️
Beautiful garden and amazing harvest. Agreed Tuker is the main attraction of this garden, love to watch how he munches the fresh veg.
See, now this is why you're different. Your channel is far more than gardening. Plus, the fact that you're honest about the failures and missteps just seals the deal for me. Excellent work, as always!
So, who's the other half of the "we?". Can we learn about the camera person too? Do they help in the garden as well?
What can I say...you have an amazing food forest, an amazing mindset and I love TUCK!!! Another great and knowledgeable video!
