Yeah, this was a weird spring near Ottawa 🇨🇦, we had super warm weather for weeks in march, then came super cold weather for a few weeks, then warm again, then random snow and cold for a few days. Now we have 4 days of spring and it looks like summer is starting next week
TLDR: planning has been weird this year 😂

Call it chaos gardening, giving it a name makes it feel purposeful! 😂 Personally, I like finding surprises in a garden, sometimes I find out something likes it better in a place I didn't expect, or next to something I hadn't thought of.

Last year I started my tomato seeds indoors in January. It took forever for them to grow. This year, I started late February, outside (socal) and my plants look healthier and pretty much the same size as last year, at this exact time. For some reason, planting late has been less work this year, with better results 😊

Potato/Chard Soup: Steam chard but don't keep the water (too much oxalates). Boil potatoes - keep that water. Make a gravy with 1% milk, whole wheat flour, onions, garlic, veggie spices cooked in butter. Blend. A really tasty way to use a lot of chard.

Great video guys! You are not alone in being behind in getting the garden put out. We've had so much wind, 30 to 60 mph, that made it impossible to get out and do anything to my planters, let alone the yard. The rain this year is so unpredictable! Sometimes we get a gentle rain, maybe a half inch, or we get like last night 4 1/2 inches in three hours, water flooding the streets and pooling in patches in the yard. I am just going with the flow, I get what I can get done. I look at it as mother nature must have looked at my garden diary and decided it was too much for me to do, so she is making me recalculate what I really need to plant.

I did something new this year, where I still made a plan for all of my raised beds, in ground beds, etc. To maoe sure I was sowing enough seeds, but not entirely TOO MANY, for the space I have, But I kind of switched things up, once I got to the point to actually plant, I planted things in different spots & mixed a lot more flowers into my raised beds this year. Last year I only planted veggies in my vegetable beds (whereas I usually do a lot of flowers mixed in, & not just companion plants- Inspired by The Lawrence Family Garden 😊) & this year I definitely wanted to get back to mixing them in my vegetable beds. It looks so pretty & attracts more pollinators!

I’m in SE Texas. No excuse for not planting. I planted bare root strawberries in a greenstalk that I haven’t stacked yet. They’re scattered in the yard with green strawberries on them. I have 3 tomato plants that I moved from 4” pots to large drink cups from Sonic. There is 1 tomato that’s almost 2”wide. 🤦🏼‍♀️
I’ve been working on an in-ground melon patch for over a year. First cardboard. I started dumping quail trays with poop and shavings onto it in November. Stopped in March. I forked it a few times. It still seems too soft and poopy to plant.
I think about my garden all the time. I just can’t get out and do anything about it. 😫

I bought some new grow lights this year because I had a lot more seeds to start than the past 2 years and for some reason most of my seedlings were doing poorly. Barely growing at all after sprouting and they all ended up shriveling and dying. Not sure if I overwater or not enough. Now I’m back to square zero starting over this week. Too bad I really wanted to try Brussels and broccoli but I fear it may to be hot here now in zone 8a. I also got strawberries for the first time, planted them, and it immediately got below 40 degrees and they all died before they even sprouted. I’m just having horrible luck this year.

Oh my gosh! Thank you for not only the garden share and education but I literally laughed so hard at the pedicure story I think I was given a gift of life and longevity. The more I watched the better I felt …the better I feel … the longer I live!
    Anyway Thank you guys! 💕

8:31 My 10 tomato plants all had perfect roots like that pepper when I transplanted outside a few days ago. Its always fun to have things work out well. Nice looking peppers Kev! I'm excited for my peppers this year as well

If you have a lot of egg make a Pasta Carbonara with a couple of yokes and then av pavlova with the whites.

Lucky for you to plant out peppers. Here on east Vancouver Island still too cold for tender vegetables. Lows to 2-3C or 35-40F. Such a cold spring.
