- Mark Fuller is the eccentric owner of what could be the most technically advanced water fountain-maker on the planet (the Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas being among his more famous). In this episode of "Hello World," Ashlee Vance travels to Burbank, California, to chat with Mark, and see how his $200 million water features are created.

Bloomberg have really upped their UA-cam game, great video
Allama Sadi Am telling you! Great content!
A fountain company is able to invest so deeply into their own custom factory? Wow, whats the revenue and profit? Supremely impressed.
Yeah, that's kinda the amazing thing about it. Am sure the margins on the projects are fantastic. But it's gotta be tricky when you're dependent on the next big thing always walking through the door. And, I think, they're facing competition from knock offs. My impression mostly was that Mark is determined to do all this stuff in house and has been burned by outsourcing in the past because he needs one-offs and not mass production, so doesn't get the love from suppliers. I've been to just about every kind of factory there is, and this is one of the most impressive.
Ashlee Vance that’s a great point, I guess making reliable equipment is super important, a fountain with a missing stream would instantly look rough kind of like a neon sign with one letter burned out. But like Tesla making seats in house, that stuff is expensive! PCB boards and casting, all under one roof, so many disciplines to become an expert in is not easy. Awesome work, this season is gonna be fun!
probably because they dont really have competition and many of their clients are pretty well off
Friends, Hello World is coming back with five fresh episodes. This is the first on one of the crazier workshops I've ever visited. Who knew fountains came with so much science?
*Hello World
Hahaha nice attempt to fool people but you forgot it is *World* and not *Work*
Fixed!
Welcome back. I love your work.
Yay \o/ I really liked this one; can't wait to watch the other episodes!
The bellagio fountains are dwarfed by Aquanura in the Efteling (also from WET of course). If you are in the Netherlands, have a look!
Mark Fuller’s company WET Design is the master of iconic water features like the Fountains of Bellagio, The Dubai Fountain, Performance Lake at Wynn Resorts, and The Waters of Olympic Park in Sochi.
Isn't it ironic that the fountain-company is based in California?
Hehe
No wonder California is running out of water
@Hynea how sure is pretty sure? Water evaporates I'm pretty sure
Andrew Enriquez it does but at a slower rate compared to the water that would be used if that same area had grass
@Hynea He said several million gallons in the video for a fountain
Laminar flow? Destin from SmarterEveryDay wants to know your location.
omg
shut up please
Captain Disillusion joined the chat
Wow, I really enjoyed hearing this gentleman speak. He is human and more.
Happy To have worked with WET on their New Creation at Atlantis The Royal in Dubai, UAE. An incredibly sophisticated combination of various systems which make it possible to put up a great show to the audience.
A success story that shouldn't be missed great job, just marvelous 👍👍
This is literally making money with marching water molecules
Goodness gracious....what a dream job!
I’ve spent years of my life immersed by each category in their Factory!
Electronics, microscopy, optics/lasers, material science/analysis, machining & tool technology, metallurgy/casting/forging, industrial control/process solutions, and woodworking (obviously).
Their facility is a dream! A place where MANY categories of discovery and experimentation mix together into something new! No boundaries in that place!
That must be lovely.
So interesting! Loved the bellagio fountain for years. Never knew about this company.
This seems like a dream place to work. Cool company.
That's not just some normal "robot", THAT'S THE IRON GIANT
Some Africans who didn't have water supplies near their house would really really appreciate the amount of water used in this video. Or for anyone elsewhere in the world who didn't have water supply for that matter.
Fun Fact: the fountain owner guy can’t swim
Well it's more fun fact if his a swimming pool builder and he can't swim...
commercial/airforce pilots can't fly 🤪
xyckriz ^ ? What are you stupid?!
@@imas3ngoi fuck you jose rodriguez. you're so slow that you need an explanation. if it's not obvious to you, joe's logic is defective. a fountain owner need not learn how to swim. but nothin serious though, everyone was just fooling around. until your dumbass name show up. go to hell you idiot!!! 🖕
I was in Vegas & the water show is beautiful but it gets really crowded fast.
Years ago there was an attraction called "Waltzing Waters". It was on Pine Island N.Y. The water would jump to the music keeping time with it.
i know about waltzing waters, but i don't know about the pine island show. what year was it?
WOW! Never realized how intense and in depth this is!! :-)
It's people like this that make us engineers have to suffer through fluid Dynamics
Gotta give a like for any video that scream "FIRE!" like that.
Ashlee is the writer of the Elon musk autobiography btw.
This is AH-MAY-ZING! Thanks For this content! Keep em coming
That must be the coolest company. Secret office. Gym. Etc. Giant robot. It's a freaking liar!
Well played.

*He should write a book...fascinating guy*
At 5:18 - cutting out pieces for their water fountains using waterjet machine tools... nice!

How much money does it cost to solve the housing crisis and homelessness? How much pollution can we clean up with 200 million dollars? What does it cost to create renewable energy and fresh water for 2nd and third world country? How much money does it take to fix the infrastructure in Flint? How much does it cost to replant trees around the world for every tree we take down? What can we do with 200 million to offer the biggest impact to combat rising natural disasters? How do we reduce the cost of college education to increase the longevity of our nation health and economy? What can we do with 200 million to reformat our educational curriculum that hasn't changed with the times to teach our kids about basic finance, taxes, accounting and how to survive a natural disasters? How do we get 200 million to spread the message of how to get more volunteers to sign up for good works? How do we incentivise college students to make learning more hands on and to learn what it's like to get paid for their time? What can we do with 200 million to Foster our younger generations to become smarter and less wasteful for the future?
Did someone say laminar flow?

I sense a strong smell of jealous
Jensen Raylight - Jealous of Walt Disney? You're kidding, right?
Simba Of course you’re jealous, you were even named after the lion king
He was 9yo when he said that
200 million for a water fountain??? What a waste of money this isn’t even that hard to replicate
Ziyaaz Maknojia then you can make your own and sell it. Shouldn’t be to hard right.
Talking bout the engineering not anything else
200 mill? That??? Tf?
👌
water *has no shape* humans "so anyway I started blasting"

Never make your identity your job
This guy sounds like hamburgers.
Fountains are useless and wasteful, they should be banned.

Yeah, i think so. We Should Ban The natural fountains, Right? The Mosquitoes will Laying eggs on the Water if there does not have any moving water. Like a pond.
