Welcome back to Project CARS 2 for PC. In honour of the 2 year anniversary of the release of Project CARS 2, I’m breaking down what I believe are the best cars, best tracks, and best features of the sim racing game. Stay tuned to simracing604 for more sim racing news and review videos.

Excellent review Mike. Mine would be different but only because of what my eyes can see or better can't see but I like all of these you mentioned be it care, tracks or features.

@@SimRacing604 Loved the video! Purchased Project Cars 2 because of your review, but haven't played yet. I have a couple of questions before I start playing.
1-Under the different cars is Control Difficulty which has bars under it. Does more bars equal more difficult to control the handling or less difficult to control the handling?
2-And then there's one that say's Cornering Speed. So, more bars equals higher cornering speed?
I'm sure that once I purchased a car and started playing I would find the answer to these 2 questions. But, I wanted to do research to purchase the best car for each category before I actually started playing. So, any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated, :)
Clarification: in the intro, I wasn’t implying that PC2 is the only sim that has these features, but rather they’re features that PC2 does very well.
Race Engineer has saved many-a-setup for me. A great feature.
It may have turned 2, but it sadly hasn't received an update since the last one... a FULL year ago. The last 12 months _really_ should've been spent fixing the major bugs, but it got zero love.
Still great fun though, I play it regularly. It still has best-in-class graphics, IMO.
I'm expecting PC3 to be the same story. Release full of bugs, get a few updates and then be forgotten. The best SMS could do is fully support mods, so that at least the modding community can improve their game.
There are still bugs from PCars1, present in pcars2. Absolutely ridiculous for bugs from the first game to still be present in the sequel.
@Alan formula1 funny that... I played it on release day just fine? Agree there are some bugs but I don't see them often and certainly not game breaking. I would rather have the content pc2 has and accept it will mean some bugs vs acc has 1 class and very few tracks but still has bugs and worse is really troublesome in vr (2080ti) to the point I try it for 10 mins after each patch and stop. I know which I prefer.... but each to their own.
@Alan formula1 ahh yes - theres lots i wish it did better (mainly consistency - some cars / tracks are just amazing whilst others are meh) and some things that annoy me (ie gear ratio not consistent once you make it and save it / Indycar oval and road on same track / the way the AI do that unnatural jerky movement at the start etc...). Agree ideal world continued support would be brilliant and it would have more people playing but that the commercial model they chose - and in the end I guess they know their own business needs better than we do. hey at least its not Fifa franchise :). I just know its the game I go back to the most out of iracing / RF2 / AC / ACC / RR / F1 2018 etc..
@Tony A. Agree. There are too many pathetic pussies in the world today who love to whinge so instead of whingeing try doing the same yourself then you may learn some gratitude and respect for those that have put a large amount of faith, time and resources into something a whinger or critic never could do!
I wish they would have made Sebring. But all in all I have no complaints with pc2.
Great video, as always. My favorite car is the Ford GT LM GTE. But the most exciting car for multiplayer races is the Renault Clio, really well made, and with racers with similar skills, there are overtakes in every single corner. :) The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X on the snowy Red Bull Ring is also really entertaining.

Thanks for the info, I’ll definitely try these cars. There’s so many to choose from and as a casual it’s hard to know what the ‘good’ ones are.
I think we will remember PCars 2 for its weather system, from a visual and gameplay perspective it’s as good as it gets.

There were parts in that review where I looked away and then looked back and thought I was watching a real race car (Toyota in the rain) :)....so good even with its flaws

Mike, Great video! Thank you... I love these standout cars, tracks, and features of PC2 as well. I'm glad you make videos like this and videos of the past custom FFB file updates, it keeps me up-to-date as I don't frequent the forums. IMO a recent video you made highlighting Christiaans pure FFB file has been a total game-changer for me and I really do feel that it brings this sim up to the same level as any of the other top 3 titles. I wish they pushed an update to include it for everyone. It's really that important.

Great video Mike. Great lists in each category as well. I would also add the Ginettas and Donnington tracks to your list. Also, PC2 has, by far, the best career mode in all sim racing. Thanks for the share!

Hey Mike! Great video. I highly recommend LMP2 at Daytona or Monza. Also GT3 at Brands Hatch. These have been some of my best races with these combos. I really wish SMS would work out the rest of the bugs though
So many great tracks and cars. LMP2, Ferrari FXX K, Clio Cup, Bannochbrae, Fuji, Oulton Park. I could list another 20 of each. Just never get bored!
SlowBloke yeah, I totally agree. The depth of PC2 seems endless. Also, I keep hearing good things about the Clio. I need to spend lots more time with that car
I can't get my head aroud fact that they developed an engine so advanced and so optimized to then release the game with FFB configured (in a user editable file!) without essential forces included, leading to all sim-inclined people complaining about poor FFB. And only after 2 years a user includes those forces, which transforms the feel and car behaviour completely.
Maybe I'm, in a bad sence, spoiled by rFactor 2 and have a perverted vision of proper FFB, but I was not clearly not the only one

What was the name of that FFB mod? I wanted to try it out cause I've been driving on the "raw" default setting since forever and would like to have the most authentic experience that pcars2 can offer.

Make sure to first try with effects on 0 becase effects add 'artificial' forces from contact patch, etc

Setup sharing is amazing!!!! People in some competitive racing thinks it’s cheating for them when they spend all that time getting the perfect setup but setups can be more suited for that persons driving snd in competitive texting in real life they are milliseconds sometimes apart so it’s up to who drives the best so I’m completely behind setup sharing. It also allows me to enjoy the game when a tune takes an un-drivable car and makes it corner great! Forza motorsports had this feature and I’ve always loved it

as a singleplayer game, I've enjoyed PC2. But the online part has been a total letdown for me. Still 2 years after release they haven't managed to make the "Practice/Qualy/Race in progress" info to uppdate correctly. Join a lobby that's listed as in practice and it turns out they're half way through a race. So you spectate and wait... once the race is over, the host leaves and you end up with some random becoming the host and car type resets to the exact same car as the host for some reason. ...and then they all leave so you end up wasting time and not getting a race.
Aa Be yeah, it’s a bit of a mess in parts, but I think the theory is sound. The ease of creating lobbies and races is pretty straightforward, and could be a learning tool for some other sims
Great Review. I agree that the Group C cars are really good. I have a great setup for Geoff Brabham's Nissan GTP which I love and blows away everything else.
Back in the (PS1) day I was always fiddling about with set-ups and tweaks (in Gran Turismo, etc.). Now, I just can't be bothered with all that, and so likewise love the set-up assistant feature.

I have spent some 300 hours in PC2, awesome game! I also spent 600 + hours in PC1 which was also fantastic! Of course we all know both had its problems but overall they are getting better so I hope the third installment will be nice, love VR for both PC1 and 2.
One of my favourite cars has to the the Bentley Speed 8 LMP9 Car
Bannochbrae has to be my favorite circuit. Whether it be bouncing around in the old Mercedes 300SL, or white knuckling it around in LMP2, it's just a blast. Also, honorable mention to the two point-to-point tracks in the form of Azure Coast and California Highway!

Nice one Mike, agree with a lot of your choices on cars and tracks. PC2 has some bad apples but when you find a good car/track combo it is excellent.
Great video. I would have picked the Sauber C9 as well. Started with SIM racing 2 years ago, aged 51. I compared all SIMS and went for PCARS2 because of the best graphics and great VR experience. Doing a lot of community races nowadays and still learning. One of my first races was at Donington under heavy weather, sky turning dark, storm and thunder, heavy rain, light flashing from the sky .... amazing experience. With the latest FFB custom settings it is even better ... can't wait for PCARS3. Hopefully they do all right from the start and don't ruin the great stuff PCARS2 has.
Once used to my new Fanatec setup, I will check out AC once more so I can also race in AC ... and iRacing in the long term might be nice too.

I agree with some of your choices, but would definitely pick other cars & tracks, just based on my own personal driving style.

Agree with all of them, except I would also Like to add that classic Le Mans is also a heap of fun in a Group 5 Car Like the 935.
Old Spa and old Monza are also a heap of fun to drive in those Cars, especially If you combine the oval and the GP circuit!
Only Problem is that the TV cameras in Monza are pretty non-existent.
Add to that old Silverstone and old Hockenheim......and you have an awesome backdrop for Classic Car racing.
Also agree with Setup sharing, it's a godsent.
And sometimes it's Not the fastest Setup that is the best one for you. Second, third, Fürth, fifth and sich can also be worth a look, as are those with the same Chassis but different engine Like in Lmp2.
Setups for the Ligier Nissan often also Work for the Judd.
I have AC, ACC, PC, and PC2. I spend about 60% of my time in AC, 30% in PC2, 8%in ACC, an 2% in PC...ACC just isn't clicking for me. Graphics-wise, PC2 wins for me. Bannochbrae is an AWESOME run!

What are the force feedback files you’re using for the Formula Renault 3.5?
I played pCars2 pretty much exclusively for the first year it was out. In the beginning I was so excited to drive some of the cars on the list I was determined not to be turned off by what I Immediately noticed was bad ffb for 90% of the cars.
Today I’d have a hard time picking out a single car I like driving in PCars2. Once I stepped away to try new content from rF2 I couldn’t return.
It’s such a shame. So many cool cars, tracks and simulation feature for one title.
Exact same here! Just substitute rF2 for RaceRoom... Got hooked on WTCR close-racing. Man are these cars lively and fun! It takes full focus, so who cares about the graphical fidelity around the track?!
Frank Diehl I just got done playing RaceRoom for the last few months. I love the custom grid feature they added. However, It recently got a Podium DD2 and finding cars that feel incredible with the DD2 is very hit and miss now.
@@OhItsThat An often heared gripe of DD users... And many of the cars in RRE feel perfectly servicable with a DFGT and the like. I guess you have to hope for the newer titles to cater more to DD-wheels.

Hello I am a big fan of the project car series. I just wanted to know how to do you turn like the track note thing on in the game like iRacing, that someone tells you if there is cars on you left or right that is use full when overtaking!

it would be an awesome sim if only ffb and physics were not so poor..I tried every single ffb custom file available, just last week I tried one whole day to find a decent True Drive settings (I'm on Simucube2) but nothing can improve the driving experience..I'm totally convinced that "less is more", because if PC2 devs would have worked on less cars and tracks, the overall quality would have been much better, but as it is there is too much content in which nothing seems to be really "finished"..
Did the same thing w/ OSW but nothing can fix this title! What a yoke! Lol!

It was a gamechanger for me and not just changed but fixed the game.
The setup downloaded feature online is great. All sims should have online leaderboards with downloadable setups like pc2 and f1 2019. We dont all have the time to spend hours making a setup for one car and track I want to jump in and race in the time I get to play

I'll have to give this another go. Got it recently after mainly playing AC and R3E. I thought the handling felt a bit canned at first but looked past it because it's more modern and there's so much content. Then working through Ginetta Cup I came to Cadwell Park. I've ridden there a few times and know it well but I got fully lost it was so far off reality. Like it wouldn't matter if I didn't know the track but it was so terrible I just stopped playing there and then.
I guess there are good and bad track and car combos and maybe I just haven't tried any good cars yet. It does look good though.

Pc2 is far from being obsolete, I still love it, some cars with Hugo settings and a good wheel make PC2 still an excellent game. I’m pretty sure that when they will be done with AMS2 they will release their own PC3
I don't know how you can not mention Live Track 3.0 To go from practice to qual to race on the same track is awesome.

A highly underrated class/feature which flies under a lot of people's radars.
I spend around 50% of my time in it, because DR2.0 still sucks in VR for Steam Rift users ;-)
So are you back on the Accuforce v2 again?
I'd noticed in some previous vids that you mentioned using the G29 again, thought I'd heard you say that it was due to some downtime with the AFv2.
If that's the case then what was this issue, and has it been rectified?
Major, minor, warranty, or out of warranty?
I'm still waiting for a sale on one, but slowly losing interest due to reading about a lot of hardware & game/software issues lately...plus there are more & more DD wheels coming to market these days.

Kranky Pantz thanks man! And yes, I’m back with the AccuForce. I had it put away so I could play some Gran Turismo, but I’m back now. And it’s bulletproof. I’ve never had any issues with it. The all-in-one angle is what sold me on AF over other competition, and I don’t regret it. But the Fanatec Podium looks rad too, so like you said, there’s a lot of options
@@SimRacing604 Ahhhh, thanks for the clarification. Glad to hear that it was put on hiatus by your own choice rather than any actual hardware issues. I should revisit GT Sport as well, since there have been so many updates since I'd last played it. I just wish they'd add a 2nd AI competitor for the PSVR functionality, so that the races could have a bit more excitement with a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place finish rather than just 1v1 racing.
@simracing604 have you tried the project cars 2 pro ffb v2.0 on race department? It has made the game as good as assetto corsa
Quick question, is Laguna Seca in the Indycar series for career mode? I only just started playing Project Cars 2 recently, and haven't unlocked Indy on career yet.

Hi Mike and other fellow sim racers. It's al little off topic, but I have a question. I recently got a good deal for a pc with an i5 1060 and I'm planning to get myself an Oculus rift. Are these specs enough for playing games like PC 2 and Assetto Corsa in VR? I've been sim racing on PS4 for years but want to take it to the next level.
Lord Park III hey man. 1060 is a bit light for running VR. I usually suggest people get a 1070 or better for VR. You probably can run PC2 or AC with your 1060, but you’ll likely have to have graphics turned quite far down

It is enough if you use original vive or oculus. Just don't expect a lot of eye candy. Totes worth it though.

Wet weather is one of the only things they got terribly wrong. Sound is mediocre if that, but otherwise a very good well rounded sim.
Nice vid. Only reason I play PC1 much more than PC2 is 2 has fun killing bugs. On Xbox One S it freezes for ~2 sec several times a lap. On PS4 Pro cars brake randomly @ 100% for ~2 sec MANY times a lap.
Cars: I preffer more lower powered cars Bk w/ my limited skill I can better push the limits. W/ really fast cars I have to focus mostly just keeping it on track.

General likes that I wish were in other games more.
*Large fields of AI cars that race close & mostly clean.
*Decent spotter & easy to read radar.
*Weather options, esp snow.
*Ability to set anycar, track combo w/ whatever AI cars you want, & very precise difficulty level.
*Large list of tracks & variety of cars.

@@SimRacing604 one thing I find esp interesting about M.B.A. is the very steep hill climb is its much steeper & longer than any other track I've ever seen in a sim. In real life I've driven a road as steep in almost every city I've been in, a couple much steeper.
I just figured out what my problem w/ PC2 was. I had brake assist on, so it was often braking while coming onto streightaways. Now w/ it off, PC2 has rocketed to the top if my list of favorite sims.
It's a fantastic looking game and long beach is arguably, one of the best tracks in Sim racing imo but SMS seems to like to abandon their titles rather quickly.
Definitely will not be buying into the PC3 hype train. I may pick it up at some point but it will not be at launch and it will not be at full price.
SMS has proven, twice now that they don't care about their customers and they only care about pumping out new titles, every other year.

@@SimRacing604 I have had the questionable pleasure of reporting bugs on their forums a few times. And instead of taking the feedback I was pretty much told "it works for others, so it can't be a bug". Despite several people saying they've experienced the same bugs. Not good QA practice at all and not nice to get rude with your customers when they report bugs.
Could you please tell me, which FFB mod/file do you use?
Check out Jack Spade and Hugo Vai FFB settings. I prefer Hugo Vai settings. Game changer.

How would one steer so well using a DS4 controller? Whenever I try to turn/steer, my car would most often go off course or spinout. I need some advice.
Jonathan Lengsavath it’s hard to advise without seeing how you drive, but as a rule, keep practicing and emulating what you see professional drivers do in terms of racing lines and braking points, and start slow and steady rather than fast and erratic
Get a thrust master tmx pro wheel it’s a great wheel and has lasted me and has still lasted me a solid 3 years

How do I record the game like this
I have a G29 but for some reason on PC2, the FFB feels really heavy compared to assetto Corsa. Even if I turn the gain down, the weight of the wheel feels so much heavier than rf2 and AC.
Try turning down the Volume not Gain.
@@SimCon68 Thanks Man! :) I don't know why I didn't figure that out sooner. Adjusting the volume helped a lot, still is a little on the heavy side but feels great as I'm no longer fighting the wheel as much.
This game is so good, it makes Gran Turismo feel like Gran Turismo.
I must say I feel that the UK circuits are the best, and most detailed in the game (go to a moist Knockhill in the Clio's and you will get my pointe)
Biggest flaw for me must be the crash physics, and it kinda ruins the supercar edition of rallycross, since contact is a part of the game.
Will be interesting to see what Automobilista can make out of that madness engine.
I've spent the last 10 years racing on Iracing but recently sold the PC and now only have the PS4 Pro. I gave GT Sport a go but it just feels way too dumbed down and very much a sim-cade. How is the UK/European based online league scene in PC2? Thanks.

My big complain I have about this game is multiplayer.
When you wanna race with friends it's great, but otherwise, it's really tedious and unpractical.
I would have liked a system like in Gran Turismo where you can simply race and have fun.
Honestly, PC2 is the best example of what it could be... But mismanagement and greed talks louder than passion.
I really love the game, but it's outrageous for a "triple A" racing game to stop receiving updates and fixes after only one year.
Exactly.project cars 2 have soo much potential but the developers just gave up on it but make you think will they do it with pc3.
Not outrages at all. It's a business model that works for plenty of devs. I think it's fair to say most of us would like longer support but we have no clue on the commercial decisions and financial responsibilities at SMS. Key thing is... do we continue to buy the game knowing the 1 year deal. For me yes.... had lots of fun with pcars 1 & 2 so it's a no brainer although I do hope pcars revolution does not become a grid clone because that will not be for me....
Never had such a toxic relationship with a game.
Good graphics, acceptable physics, big selection of cars and tracks.
It will crash because it is bugged as fuck, and if you're in an online race and it crashes, you'll pay with your license score even though is not your fault.
Someone crashed you? (super common online) you'll pay with your license. Not your fault? Doesn't matter, you pay.
Touched a curb? Traction lost.
Touched white lines with a tire? Off track, slow down or get penalized.
Others make a huge crash and you avoid it? Nope, give back your place.
Tyre model is mediocre, even Assetto feels 10 times more realistic. Also FBB is crap.
They tried to include so much content that most of it feels incomplete, and to put the nail on the coffin, they closed the doors to a super talented modder community.
It's so, so fucking bugged, I hate it, I love it. Fuck this game, seriously.

PC2 could have been way better than it is. Historic tracks are cool. All the rain in career mode sucks. Engine breaking sucks. Not enough street cars. It's like they put more effort in some cars than others, at least they all don't play to the same level. Not a bad game just could have been way better than it is.
The Radical SR3 around Nordschliefe is thrilling in this game! The other cars in the same class are so fast down the straights but the Radical absolutely obliterates them in the corners when the downforce loads up. Driving on the absolute edge trying to take as much flat as possible!
IMO the tunnel on the Monaco track is badly done in this game.
Agree with many cars, but I simply can't stand italian tracks anymore, Assetto Corsa simply depleted my interest in them in a way that I get sad when F1 gets there... =\

I disagree about rallycross. As good as it may be, tracks take so muck to develop and 99% of the cars aren't made for dirt. Put motorcycles in the game instead.

Nice to hear someone giving credit to PC2, Usually it's a case of let's all knock this sim AC is so much better, not in my opinion, SMS deserve a lot of credit for pushing the boundaries and having the guts to bring it to consoles, a lot of other developers copied their innovation, roll on PC3.

@@BCJM76 let me tell you I race on big willow springs track and Laguna seca...also I play iracing, acc too ..to be honest real world car movement..in pjc2 is on point .compared to iracing which has no tyre feel..and suspension movement..pjc2 nails this...

Aidan Millward that’s a great question, and I’ve yet to answer it. But I may try and do so in a video.
Some people are still bitter about SMS "selling out" to Electronic Arts to make the Shift 1 and Shift 2 titles. There are also a bunch of very vocal, very angry people who got kicked out of the funding of Project CARS 1 title due to being extremely abusive and downright silly on the alpha testing forums. You can still find those very same people in various simracing forums constantly belittling anything SMS creates. Human nature, isn't it wonderful?
Having said that, part of the blame falls squarely on SMS themselves. They are notorious for not polishing things properly and not really connecting/understanding their audience.. and the boss himself (Ian Bell) is quick to use hyperbole to describe all the wonderful underlying technologies in the game.. yet it doesn't always show or work properly. Yes we got water, yes we got actual dynamic puddles.. but they are bugged and never fixed. So yeah, part of the anger can be understood considering some of the vocal audience being whiny man children. Overall though, there's no denying the completeness of the package and the fun that can be had when it isn't derailed by the bugs.
The driving is just terrible in this game. Beautiful graphics and good online stuff, but literally the worst sim and it's not even close
But you have to admit that physics have improved in comparison to PC1. Nonetheless rfactor 2 is the king in terms of physics...

Project cars 1 was a much better game. PC2 is just crap. Even the 1st game looked better.

Each to their own. I've got over 2k hours between pc1 and pc2 and they are responsible for over 5k purchases. Like iracing ac rf2 too. To say its shit though....can't take that seriously...
